- It's request night; three down, 4,078 to go: Filmmaker Errol Morris discusses and plays clips from his documentary on pet cemeteries, "Gates of Heaven." The band follows through at the end.
Wow. This was the kind of stuff that made Letterman stand out in the early days. There was just nobody else doing interviews like this. Thanks for posting Don.
Nobody sets up a clip like Errol Morris
Younger Errol Morris looks like Ray Romano
Brian Miller his son Hamilton Morris actually looks a lot like he did when he was younger
Creator of Napoleon Dynamite said this film help inspire him for his movie.
His son Hamilton talks with the exact same cadence as he does
Wow this is the guy who made Vernon Florida? I love that
You're 0.0007% of the way there. We've got your back, Donz!
Errol Morris looking normal. What a treat.
The audience laughing about things that really aren’t even funny kind of ruins it...
blame it on Letterman he used to mock his guests when they were going to serious
@@Almost-Nothing have you ever watched the show? He "mocked" (what?) "them" (who? rich and famous celebrities?) when they acted too sanctimonious for the occasion. You know, like when Hollywood actors take their precious stardom too seriously? Besides, who gets to go on talk shows--people like you and me? And yet funnily, it's people like you and me (well, you) who seem to be first to leap to the defense of "poor guests" subject to jest.
Exactly! They were hugely disrespectful. A bunch of asswipes.
They started laughing at Morris as soon as he sat down! The audience was a bunch of yard apes. Letterman should have told them to shut up.
OK....the guy playing guitar at the end of this clip: WOW....that was nice. That was nice playin' no doubt. This is also the episode where Jerry Seinfeld (May 13, 1982) was on this show!
The great Hiram Bullock.
I feel bad for Errol Morris. The audience is laughing when the clips from his documentary are shown. Kinda sad. These are not funny clips, quite the contrary actually. They probably didn't get it. Kudos to Dave for inviting Errol onto the show, though, because as another commenter said, this really is what made Dave stand out in early days of Late Night.
Also sad: Those great documentaries haven't made much money. Morris makes a living directing commercials.
K. Monroe The clips were somewhat funny, but also kind of heartfelt and sad. That is sort of what the whole movie is like.
The Prankster Ebert called it one of his ten greatest movies of all time
Laughter is a natural reaction to these clips. Why feel bad for Errol Morris? He's laughing too. Morris describing it, @ :45 seconds in: "I think it's a very funny film." Therefore when the audience laughs, it means they get it; not that they DON'T.
Morris is brilliant. I've watched and re-watched his films many times.
I honestly think letterman sums it up at the beginning.
Raymond!
Maybe David was trying to play this straight ... Maybe. But as Errol was describing the movie, specifically talking about the man's sons. How they dig graves, but have big dreams, I couldn't help but giggle. He was being serious, and I was watching out of an honest curiosity, but it still made me giggle, just like the audience giggled.
Errol Norris trolled those poor people and pretended to be taking them seriously.
This clip really makes me hate Errol Morris
