I hope that for the money as an Australian who when a new iPhone comes out is shelling out close to $2k on a phone.. I’d hope that Apple can bake these features right in. Although I don’t see Apple doing them justice.. not when the current lot of apps require either a weekly, monthly or yearly subscription to use them or an obscene amount of money to pay upfront as a one off payment.
I have a massive gripe with the subscription model payment system and apps at the moment. When we’re in a “cost of living crisis” and every single app/service these days requires some sort of locked in payment plan just to use it. 😢
If you have a good app, a great useful service, there used to be a time that you could pay anywhere from $1-20 for a once off app or service payment. That’s acceptable. Not this current model of I have to pay $10 a month for it

Great stuff and presented with style and confidence - there is a lot of work to be done with Siri

For photos other things that been an issue can easily be solved. Like those little green dots that can appear on a photo.

ProTip: Instead of Oasis, you can use Grammarly, which is allowed to be installed as a keyboard and corrects all of the dictation mistakes automatically. (I do agree though, hopefully iOS will bring SIRI back in to the modern ara)

For summarizing RUclips videos, I’ve enjoyed Eightify.

Great video (as usual). It is a very useful summary of what AI can do for the average person , aside from what we would like from iOS 18 and Apple. Two thoughts come to mind using the standalone apps certainly gets the subscriptions stacking up but I strongly suspect that if Apple does bring a lot of these things in they will be wanting to monetise them as well…….

I’ve been using Seeing AI for as long as I have been an Apple iPhone / iPad user:approximately three years.
I don’t have any problems with the in-built voice from this app. It certainly didn’t sound like the 1950s robot Sci-Fi film you played. I tend to opt for a female voice. But other than that change, I don’t think I did any other customisation, if available. I live in Australia so maybe it’s a location thing.
I agree that the app being somewhat clunky so I tend to use it for short identification of snail mailaddres, labels on grocery items etc.
It is quite reasonable for longer text but I’ve tended to use a combination of Google Photos and Google Lens to read full text documents, that seems to work much better than this app.
Keep up the good work. Many thanks for all these hints and tips.

Apple music already makes a playlist based on your music and music you might like. That A.I feature had been there for a couple of years now without them ever saying it was A.I.

I think if apple did some these these things at least they would be back in business. Better photo editing really excites me. Great take on AI and expectations. Appreciate your content.

With this AI capability coming on board will it mean devices becoming ‘legacy’ ever sooner - I guess my iPhone SE 2 will struggle with iOS 18!!

Quite possibly. We'll know more in a month or so (possibly even in a week when the new iPads are launched). But assuming Apple put a focus on 'on-device AI', they may well lock out certain AI features to only the more capable devices.

Just allowing me to re-order items in my health summary would be good. Surely not groundbreaking.
Cadence in outdoor walk on the watch would be nice.
Chat GPT is fine as a stand alone.

So iPhone is the first one actually getting “AI” or is Apple just updating their apps and features to work better than the last version hence being called an update? Let’s be honest none of this is AI and I really do not understand why people call it as such. But hey a senile old man that can barely put two words together is running America so I guess anything is possible

AI is fairly toxic technology and is going to be mired in legal disputes and regulation on a scale we’ve not seen in some time. Frankly, whilst some people wet their pants over this kind of thing I wouldn’t want it near my phone. Granted there will doubtless be no choice on some elements but the use case is fairly weak and once manufacturer’s like Apple get wind of the toxicity they will back off significantly if it’s a choice between that and phones being pulled off the market.
