Wow!!!!Wow!!! The most beautiful woman singing one of Mozart's most difficult arias as if she is just breathing. Beautiful, fantastic. Oh dearest Anna you are absolutely fantastic. What a voice. Love you forever. ❤❤❤❤
Divina!! Senza ombra di dubbio!! Voce potente, chiara e limpida... e una pronuncia quasi perfetta. Inoltre una grande dote recitativa emotivamente coinvolgente. Splendida!! *__*
no problem...reason why I understand this is Ive attempted this piece myself and I tried shouting it the whole way....it wasnt till my voice instructor sat down and helped me add in the markings! my hats to ya man!
She may not be the "exact voice type" to sing this aria, but WHOOOEEEE! Bring the pure drama, Anna! Goosies! What I see here is a woman who loves what she's doing and is okay with leaving her heart out there on that stage. In many ways, she is exactly what opera needed in the 21st century. I LOVE IT!
beautiful... well, none word in the entire world can express what i feel when i see anna singing... Amazing video, amazing voice and interpretation... i can´t get enough of hearing this woman singing ..although this is my favourite video and song from her:-) Bravo!!!!
Credit where credit is due. Firstly, any soprano taking this aria on, deserves a medal for even learning it. Secondly, Anna did a wonderful job of this. There are so many traps in this aria and Anna did NOT fall into ANY of them. Brava darling!!!! BRAVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic performance... She´s one of the best sopranos that we have nowadays. this video make me chills every time i see it.. I can´t imagine of seeing her singing live.. if with a video i get all emotional, i can imagine seeing her singing live...:-)
I agree. There are some who might say "'ending on a high note' wasn't the style in Mozart's time but came along later." That may be true, but ending on the high C would have been wonderful. There's a recording of Joan Sutherland singing this area and ends on the C -- it is fabulous!
Everything about this woman is gorgeous: voice, technique, appearance. Fabulous interpretation of this awesome aria, including the hystericasl laughter at the end. Overacting? Come on, people. She is interpreting a combined madness and death scene: why should she stand there as a pillar just because this is a recital? You can wake me up in the middle of the night for a performance like this: stars are failing for an adequate rating...
Youth, beauty, invigorating vitality, marvelous energy, an intoxicating warm voice - what an irresistible combination! Enough to even bring Pavarotti back from the dead. I find it impossible to tire of watching this spectacular performance.
i dont understand a word of it but the energy and feeling she puts into it is out of this world she never misses a beat she is beautiful and as such a fantastic range and quality to her voice really enjoyed it
@silvr94 @silvr94 Notice when the soprano is performing, the orchestra buttons off, or is silent, their parts alternate, in the main. It was performed in the Felsenreitschule which is bulit against a quarry face. It has been used for open air concerts, but has a a retractable roof, it is also used for operas. Operas are not amplified. Musicals yes, operas no, unless being very naughty.
@MultiTraviata actually, i believe it is an amplification microphone. the room she is performing in has different acoustics than an opera house, and second of all, the orchestra is right behind her. the loudest singer would have to scream to project their voice into the auditorium over the orchestra. don't forget, in an opera house, the orchestra is below stage-level, making it a bit quieter.
Comparing Netrebko here to her recent Anna Bolena at the Met, I would say her voice seems darker and richer and somehow bigger in the 5 or 6 years sine this and the Salzburg Mozart commemorative recordings. She can act as well as sing, and it is a delight to hear one who has her emotional depth with the proper control. She makes you love her!
this shouldn't be another place for insults and debating over Netrebko's style. This aria is one of her best pieces (the best in my opinion), it sounds great and is sung brilliantly. try-to-en-joy
ad80ad: I simply adore your advice: " Acquire an education, then talk." Worth figuring in some anthology. In the same vein: "Learn the basics, then perform" "Learn your art (or trade), then produce." "Get a teacher, then show us what you've got"
BRAVA!I love her!She is great and very energetic woman! I would like to ask if someone could send me the scores for this recitativo and aria, thank you!
This is wonderful. Singing directly from her stomach, expanding her stomach, and pushing through her diaphragm. And opening her mouth which helps her project...oh yea..confidence :)
Comparing Netrebko and Flemming is like comparing apples and oranges. Netrebko as Elektra here is the dramatic, 'fierce' Mozart soprano. While Flemming's forte is as the spinto, 'elegant' soprano (the Countess, Donna Anna etc.). Please keep in mind that there are many types of sopranos and they excel in different roles.
@sweetaztecangel69 there is a difference between shouting and singing in fortissimo. she used many dynamics. She crescendo and decrescendo many times. She even went mezzopano at the end of the recit. Toward the end she was singing in mezzoforte but with legato and then staccato and fortissimo when she laughs. you only payed attention to her fortissimo moments. if you dont like her interpretation thats fine but she did use her dynamics in this video.
I agree she sings the way today singer are singing. Forget the old ones Flags tad, Nilson Bjoerling well the list is too long.. Viva anna ne treb ko . She could give lessons to all of the old singers.
Quite good! Netrebko is one of the very rare cases when all the hype and marketing are backed by actual talent. The staccati at the end sound exactly what they are supposed to sound, that is hysterical laughter (only Gruberova could produce this effect better)
So agreed..who in fact is anyone to judge her? Beside's who is the one sitting at home and who is the one singing in front of thousand's of people doing and adored by many? Well put Myrtha77.
I'm sure I've watched and listened to this performance over 100 times. It stays strong, very strong. Mighty strong. $^@#&* strong. This is one powerful singer with perfect pitch and no fear. History is being written by Anna Netrebko and we're witnesses.
@vocalissimo1 5:42 the high staccati ARE NOT sung if they are manic laughter. These high staccati ARE a "finirà" transformed in manic, insane, terrifying laughter and Anna gives us the greatest performance we can dream of one of the first Expressionist arias ever conceived. We've to wait Schoenberg's "Pierrot Lunaire", to have a panic energy equivalent to Mozart's "Black compositions" . Did you ever see Goya's "Black paintings"(Mozart contemporary)? Acquire an education, then talk.
@bridrice Interesting comment given that this was uploaded in 2006. Do you think that Anna is paying for it now? She was not at her best in the Lucia last year but it was 4 months after she had had a baby & it was also hard to look good next to Marius & Piotr who were spectacular on that particular day (the MET HD Simulcast). She was, in my opinion, very good in Don Pasquale. I happen to like the 'darkness" in Anna's voice & I think she does this aria justice.
First some basics. Pop or Popera singers use amplification. The microphone feeds their voice into an amplifier. Then it goes to big speakers around the building. You normally see a feedback speaker directly at the foot of the performers. . Watch "Bocelli with Netrebko Classical Brits 2008" Real sound, at 2.55 she takes his hand. You can't ( ok you can) hear him, even screaming into mike. She breaks him in two. Sheer power.
LOOK AT HER !!! The way her face changes at 19 to 22 seconds point.. from greeting the crowd with a smile to the focused scowl of the character !! Gripping !! What stage presence.. what a voice !! I LOVE YOU ANNA !!
This is one of the earliest examples of "mad scenes" and, as such, requires extraordinary dramatic and vocal skills. Unfortunately, I think Netrebko lacks the latter.
Well.. I'm pretty sure this aria takes place during a 'mad scene.' So that probably has something to do with it. I'm don't know much about the opera this is from though
I agree with you. She's stunning here. Do worry a bit though. She's really singing on the edge, and it would be a shame if she burned out too young. She should have a long career!
@madziua90 i have to agree. possibly this is the best thing i´ve ever heard of her... at least live, i´ve always said that she has such an amazin voice for mozart and puccini. it´s a shame that she prefers to do all that bel canto that does not suit her voice
I think she is wonderful! I honestly fed up with those comments that are only about the technical things. Well for me the interpretation, the character, charisma, intensity (in this) is way more important that for instance "the coloratura is not good". Honestly If someone gives a performance like this, I donot care about those things. Besides she really has a great voice, I think she was neither lyrics nor a dramatic soprano, she was somewhere between the 2 of them. Now her voice is definitely bigger and darker. Actually I preferred her lighter voice, but its just my subject opinion. She is one of the bests I think, and its not always about technics :)

a great voice.......the best performance i ever heard on this Aria.,.......nice job Anna
Fantastic!!!❤👏👏
Assoluto spettacolo
I absolutely adore this performance. Very emotive, interative, very colourful
no problem...reason why I understand this is Ive attempted this piece myself and I tried shouting it the whole way....it wasnt till my voice instructor sat down and helped me add in the markings! my hats to ya man!

This performance of this aria is like one of those energy drinks: many people can't stand the stuff but I just LOVE it and can't get enough of it!!
Wonderful interpretation, love the character... The orchestra is PERFECT!!

Magnifica interpretación, de Anna Netrbko...
Boy did she sound good here!
I really enjoyed this!
She could have ended with the High C - I wish she had...but I still got chills.

She´s the best right now , and add to this how beautiful she is. Damn. Her voice is really strong.
Incredible.
I think she is simply fabulous.
That was wonderful. I would love to see Netrebko in the entire role.
i use it as an energy booster. if i feel down or so, listening to this performance promptly uplifts my spirits!
i dont understand a word of it but the energy and feeling she puts into it is out of this world she never misses a beat she is beautiful and as such a fantastic range and quality to her voice really enjoyed it

The orchestration is absolutely amazing too, it works very well with her voice.
I'm like, obsessed with this video
This ia amazing! Brava Anna!
I was never a fan of Netrebko but this is very, very good.
my second most favorite clip on you tube. this is incredible
this recording remains one of my most favourite energy boosters ever...
I love Ana's Elettra so much! can't wait to see her sing it live, soon to be :o)
fantastic!

she is just superb!!!
It is a recording microphone. That is why you can hear it here, no microphone, no recording.
An amplification microphone is different.
She is a lyric, dramatic, soprano that can take on coloratura too. Just fabulous! But alas, I can only have her as a youtube girlfriend.
@verdinfishy Definitely! Pendatchanska IS Elettra :)
thanks!
she´s brilliant and accurate, loved her this time!
Supremely beautiful.
She does more than singing, she gives us a magnificent show.
No she doesn't. Its completely unsuitable
Opera on this level is a blood sport, and Anna charms the bull before she kills it, every time.

@ifbgb I've seen Pendatchanska and i'm totally with you on this :D. . . .
thanks, I wholeheartedly agree
I LOVE HER INTERPRETATION!
Opera is pasion, Enjoy the show people.quit winning..Anna rules!
Brava ! she is just ..BRAVA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good interpretation....wish she had followed this path for some 10 years before the Macbeths et al.
So agreed..who in fact is anyone to judge her? Beside's who is the one sitting at home and who is the one singing in front of thousand's of people doing and adored by many? Well put Myrtha77.
she's amazing

Lot's of fire. I love it. I love how a lot of those Russian singers go for broke.
J'en suis baba!!magnifique!!!
I love Anna

@Lweoira I've tried to listen to Pendatchanska, but it is like a knife against glass.
i liked very much ... also ...

She is incredably trained in acting and singing. Opera in general can be pretty cheesy. Fortunately she has made it look more realistic!
