- Marianne: Hi. I'm Marianne Howell Wright. Today we're going to take a tour
of Meadowmont Village in Chapel Hill with Kathy and Joe, who are thinking about moving to
Chapel Hill from Raleigh. After our tour, we'll stop by the Village and
have a bite to eat because real estate is hungry work.
Meadowmont is a 450 acre planned neighborhood in Chapel Hill. Meadowmont
Village is like an old time main street with shops, cafes, and offices.
There's a Harris Teeter Grocery Store and the UNC Wellness Center is open
to the community and includes a fitness center along with programs and
resources promoting good health. There's an elementary school and 70 acre
park and a membership optional swim club. The Summit Park Row houses are at
the top of the Meadowmont Hill and have wonderful views in a park center.
These luxury townhomes are large, some over 4,000 sq. ft. and include
elevators. Prices range from the $800's to around $2 million.
Craftsman-style cottage homes are in the upper $300's to around $500. The
Parkridge area has homes priced in the $500 to $600,000 price range. Large
classic homes in Meadowmont are priced from around $600,000 to several
million for a golf course lot on Pinehurst Drive. The Cedars is a
continuing care retirement community located within Meadowmont. The Cedars
also includes individual cottage homes and a full service club home.
Look up the hill past the houses to the modern building. Castalia has
commercial space and residential penthouses on the top floor. The Hilltop
condos are flats with a price range in the $500 and $600's and around 2,400
sq. ft. Above the Main Street shops and cafes are the village condos, one
and two bedrooms and priced from the $400's to $600,000.
Now that we've toured Meadowmont, Kathy, Joe and I are going to go have a
bite to eat at Brick's and talk over what we've seen today. Real estate is
hungry work. Kathy and Joe liked Meadowmont, and I asked them to tell me a
little bit about their ideal house and what they wanted in a neighborhood.
Joe: Ultramodern, open tread stairs, soaring ceilings, and the glass just
goes up.
Kathy: Shops, restaurants.
Joe: Just walk downstairs to Brick's, walk across the street to the grocery
store. Not too shabby.
Marianne: Well, I found out more about Kathy and Joe and what they like,
and I hope you enjoyed our tour of Meadowmont.
