If you mark the top squares with alphabets e.g. a,b,c,d,e and the vertical squares with numbers from 1-9 or however many squares you have, on both your grids, I found it much easier to follow. thanks for the videos love watching you, you are so talented! Keep up the good work.
Lindsay, Thank you so much!!! I just asked the question a day or so ago and you answered already. And not only answered, but you took the time to put together a video!!! I am amazed by you. I love the projector/tracer and the grid idea. I will try both! I just discovered your videos last week, and every evening since then I've spent my evenings (& some day time) watching your videos (instead of watching TV or wasting time online). The videos are so informative. You know what questions us viewers have (even how your office is set up and how you store things). Thanks for pronouncing my name correctly, too!
I used to do this with my 6th grade math students when we studies scale. I used coloring book pages. I copied them on the copy machine with a grid transparency over top of the picture, then I'd cut them up into smaller pieces and give each student a piece to recreate on large grid paper. After they were done drawing and coloring, they'd put the pieces together like a puzzle. Always a fun activity that the kids would beg to do again!
Lindsey, you must be a mind reader, I spent hours on the web last night researching Grid drawing to size up my sketch! Thank you for this, your instruction is always so understandable! :)
Dear Lindsey, Another aid in drawing this way, is to cover the squares you are not using at that moment. That way your brain does not see the whole picture (so it can't think ahead).
a couple of high school art teachers here have cut up a photo of a flower or a face or something, passed out the pieces and had the students paint their sections in watercolor in 1' pieces, then put them back together on the wall like a puzzle, like you were saying, but a photo instead of a drawing
I do have a problem drawing freehand, what a great tip! and I will have no trouble turning my mind off, that is it's normal condition ;)...xoxoxo Tilly
How about flipping the image upside down? That would keep the shapes in each grid abstract & you could focus on the grid rather than the complete image. I've done this many times & it keeps your images from looking really "worked on". Great tutorial!
Omg! I just started watching your videos...You are just an encyclopedia of information. I just started getting more into card making & crafting. So I am finding your videos to be every useful. Why didn't I stumble upon your channel soon?! I have a question if you don't mind... I want to buy a hot glue gun. Do you have any suggestions for a good high temperature one? And what kind or company is good for refills?
Thank you Bia! I recommend a Surebonder dual temp glue gun, it is the red one. I like that I can switch it to low when working with children or on papercrafts and switch it up to high for more intense projects. I've used a lot of glue guns and it is the best. Also it takes the larger standard glue sticks which are easier to find and more economical. Happy gluing:)
Wow...I can't draw at all, Lindsay...but I'm going to give this technique a try. The worst thing that can happen is that I mess up a piece of paper...and I'll try on el cheapo copy paper to begin with :)
Lindsay, just found your channel via rxstrmom. I want to recreate a childhood pic of my siblings in charcoal pencil to give to my sisters as gifts... When I make the grid the grid that I am going to draw on, am I just supposed to erase the grid lines when I'm done drawing?
Lindsay, Horrible hour trying to print the info at wordpress on "The Glue I Use. I wanted to put to info in a notebook I am setting up of your advice and tips. Are we not allowed to print off your word press site?
Deirdre Powers huh, you should be able to print whatever you like, I have no restrictions. Try rebooting your PC, it helps me whenever the internet if giving me trouble:)
forgot to say, in Drawing on The Right Side of the Brain, they have you do it upside down like what you are doing, but with a paper over it and only expose a little bit at a time to force you to use your right brain

Another great idea! I think I'll use the grid method for drawing flowers and more. I learn and re-learn so much from you. Many thanks for all you do.

Hello, my acrylic painting canvas is 12x12. How do I grid that? And what is the best size I should print my photo too?

thefrugalcrafter . Thank you so much for replying :) Have a great day!
thanks for refreshing this way to enlarge or to make it smaller.
Just curious. When the drawing is finished, I take it you erase all the grid lines? Sorry, I'm a beginner.
Yeah! =)

My acrylic painting canvas is 20 x 20. How do you measure it for grid? Thank you.
+Bill Sonic I would do a 2" grid 10x10 and make a 10x10 grid on your photo just smaller

Laura Koking yes so draw it light with a soft pencil. Or you can add a background.

Matko, dlaczego męczysz się tak do góry nogami? Normalnie pokazuj, my pewnie zrozumiemy, a Tobie będzie łatwiej. :D
