@Jacl Black Yes, I agree....there's some real wisdom in Mr. Garza's statement. I need to work on this-- listen to understand, rather than thinking of a witty retort...
like the wrong way to double clutch. wrong way to rev match. and wrong way to start a truck rolling off a stop with a load or not.... theres a reason for 1st and 2nd gear...
Most inexperienced drivers shift two ways: 1. By RPM's 2. By Speed But most seasoned "Road Dogs" shift by "Sound." No need to explain... because, time behind the wheel will be your true teacher. Hammer Down.
Training For Life; I learned by listening. Not the rpms or speed. I like the ol’ twin-stick 10spd in my ‘49 IH LF330, this truck has a 300” wheelbase & completely restored, twin axle rear-end. Except I’m scared to drive this rare truck due to the idiots on our roads now, I might bring this rig to a few shows.
Training For Life that's very true I never look down at my dash getting up to speed other than to make sure that I'm not about to speed or just checking my dash that and I never clutch
Smh I work with a young guy like this. He don't wanna listen. I got my class A hands on after I'd left prime school I been driving for almost 20yrs & I still listen & learn because Most times those who know it all find out they know nothing at all, but patience is a virture. Good video.
you're an EXCELLENT teacher. I admire your driving techniques and patients with some them students you teach. I'm a trinidadian and the trucks I drive are small in comparison to the ones you handle over there...
😂😂😂 this guy seems like he already knows how to drive. Keeps cutting out the instructor. I’m going to like this one more of a Comedy show for truck drivers.
I don’t know about anyone else. But I drive a 97 peterbilt and when it comes to turns loaded I tend to leave it it neutral and I can feel the truck and I normally get the gear I want but that’s just me not sure if I’m doing it rite or wrong but it works for me. Been driving 2 years and hauling saltwater. And floating up and down is easy tremendously easy it’s probably most if not all drivers are in a rush and I don’t rush I take it easy on the equipment and do my loads on time.
I'd like to go through a refresher course with you, you're so calm and relaxed. The trainee needs to relax and listen to you. Keep up the good work. Subscribing to your channel now. Hopefully I can learn a lot for it.
Interesting how Junior asks the clearly experienced driver to look at the side mirrors every time he turns and then puts subtitles in the bottom saying the driver needs ‘refreshments’. Anybody else notice this?
Don't need a clutch but for starting and stopping. Up shift or downshift can be done by matching the engine rpms with the road speed. If you can float up a gear then you can float down a gear... trick is matching road speed with rpms. Get your road speed down more and it'll fall right out of gear without using the clutch.
When I shift, i do a controlled grind. I very gently move the stick over the gear and slowly rev the RPM up. Then when it gets close I just clutch it in. Sometimes that can stink though because at a fast RPM, the pressure needed to feel the gear is far less than the pressure at a low RPM... almost like the gear “disappears” as soon as the RPMs start to match up. So when they do, I have to gradually give it more pressure to maintain my feel of the gear without grinding the high RPM too hard. Or if I rev it too quickly it usually either just bumps right into gear or the RPM falls and allows it to go right in. I know a lot of instructors don’t like doing that but I do only because I feel like I know exactly what the gear is doing. This helps especially downhill. Left foot on the brake, right on the gas, heavy brake pressure, rev RPM, feel gear, gear goes into place, engine brake and never have to touch the brakes.
Joe Garcia Jr when I started driving local this one guy wanted me to train him how to double shift. It was weird but he was learning something new. His dad taught him how to drive. They used the clutch to stop and start. He said he always felt like he was less professional by not double clutching. He did have a little trouble with it. He floated so fast it took him a minute to get his foot into the rhythm. Crazee. He’d been driving for years but he actually learned something from me. Never too good to learn. Junior should get a Purple Heart and the metal of honor for having to put up w super driver. If he came into Southeastern freight with that Attitude they would let him drive or go home. Training in the trucking world should always be a privilege. Companies don’t make a lot of money training drivers. The drivers should always make the most of that time. I’ve seen students that may have been smarter than the teacher but if they had a desire they could always learn. Sorry for talking this much I just hate it when people sometimes act like they drove out of their mothers womb in a Peterbuilt.
I shift differently than most people apparently. I never blip the throttle when down shifting. When I come out of gear, I lightly rev and hold the throttle to about 1600 or so rpms and the stick falls perfectly into gear as smooth as an automatic. This is mostly ideal when using the Jake. Most of us know that if you downshift float by blipping the throttle with the Jake on, the Jake will drop your rpms between gears causing you to miss it.
This makes me miss my manual, only been an auto for a few weeks now. Shifting was like a game to me, always trying to get a quick and smooth shift without any grinding. Chicago and Atlanta rush hour will also make you want to learn how to float real quick.
they both are easy in my opinion the Eaton super ten speed is much easier for a beginner... now the best of both worlds versatility again to me would be 5X4 5 peed main 4 speed brownie but more shifting involved
chris wolosonowich a super ten shifts just like the high side of a 13 speed. Super 10 is better, no repeat shift pattern. A little tricky to learn but once you get it down, it's a breeze. You wouldn't have any trouble with it from a 13 speed.
Your a good trainer teacher There is no way I could be a trainer good work Just don't get mad at the new guy and leave him at the pilot in flagstaff with 20 bucks a suitcase and a cell phone LOL
Ive been trucking so long that without thinking my right turn is normally on 7th gear. When im rushing , i turn in 8th , when im lazy to drive i turn in 6th or 5th
Hey Jr, I just scored my first gig after getting my cdl last week up here in Canada. Took a lot of your advice for backing and it helped me out a lot. Will be driving a newer Cascadia with 10-speed after orientation. Will eventually be doing Ontario to Laredo and Laredo to BC/Alberta runs. This video on floating gears is great as I never really learned how to do it--was shown only once at school. Hopefully you could do some more with a little more detail. Thanks!
What province did you get your license? Mine was Alberta in Sept 2017. I just got my first interview last week as hardly any companies will not hire someone without 2 years verifiable experience.
How about starting on 5th when you're stopped downhill and about to go down that hill? I find that my tractor moves smoothly when I do that. If I start this on 3rd, I find my tractor speed and rpms move too fast up to upshift smoothly and it can be a struggle.
U are a good trainer u are hard on ya students but u always teach em right.. u be like slow down SLIW DOWN CLUTCH CLUTCH DOWN IT SHOULDNT TAKE THIS LONG LOOK AT YA MIRRORS LOOK AT YA RPMS I SHOULDNT HAVE TO TELL U this lol.. we wud have a love hate relationship but I enjoy watching your vids bro!! I jus received my permit
Hope the student learned to shut his mouth and listen. You had the patience of Job. I contacted PRIME Inc. and they stated that they don't teach manual anymore. If this is true I am going to get my CDL A before coming to eliminate a restriction on my license.
Ya I flunked my road test because I panicked not to roll back onto two cars right up the trailer, I forgot to put the splitter down. Stalled out. Duhhh..automatic failure...lol 😆
Should set up a camera showing ur footwork on the bottom corner of the screen, and on behind you showing the control station on the other bottom corner... would be awesome
Dude may have been out of trucking for a couple years so he had to go get a refreshment course , but one thing for sure, once you know how to drive a truck you never forget. So the trainee just may know what he’s talking about, just saying.
Is there a such thing as giving it too much gas when you let off the clutch or is it an even amount and you just have to figure it out sometimes I stall because I don't give it enough and I'm wondering if I should just push the gas in to make sure and just play with the clutch
Hello. Even though Prime Inc is going to all automatics, can we request a trainer that drives a manual so that we could test out on a manual? I'm asking because I don't want any restrictions on my cdl. I would hate to just have an automatic restriction on my cdl.
The problem is in America only a few people know how to use a manual transmission. And I am referring to normal cars. SO Its always going to be harder to use a manual on a truck if they have never used it on a car. If you know how to use it on a car your its going to be easy to know where all the gears are on a truck.
Tree ' 11 years of driving trainers crazee. He’s worried about owner operators having to be governed. Need to be a real operator first. I can promise you that if you know how to manage time you can make money without having to drive 70. If you drive NE or even SE you hardly ever get a lot of top speed cruising. I have seen grandpa with cowboy hat and roach killers barreling down hills out west making time. Too many early arrivals can get you caught. I love those guys tho. Got 500 lights on their truck and get pulled over because one is burnt. I’ve had those guys blow my doors off going down the mountain only to pull up beside them at the bottom of the hill. Look over and he’s smilin. It’s because he was having fun.
Most people don’t listen with the intent to understand, they listen with the intent to reply. You can always learn something new just by being quiet.
Marco Antonio Garza that is so true ...I like that
@Jacl Black Yes, I agree....there's some real wisdom in Mr. Garza's statement. I need to work on this-- listen to understand, rather than thinking of a witty retort...
As a soon to be student, I understand that some students prefer talking instead of listening.
That is so true, this student should have just listened and absorbed like a sponge.
like the wrong way to double clutch. wrong way to rev match. and wrong way to start a truck rolling off a stop with a load or not.... theres a reason for 1st and 2nd gear...
Junior, you're a good dude. Most instructors with less patience would've thrown this guy of the truck.
Very respectful brother as soon as you said you don’t cus on your channel you just got my respect 100
I really appreciate it and thanks for watching 👍
You should do another video without him in it.
The student needs to shut up and listen, If he knows everything why is he in student seat.
Seriously I’m getting into trucking school and he’s driving me crazy like aren’t you learning shut the fuck up
I don't know about him Junior,he acts like he know more than you I don't like working with or training ppl like that
Jacl Black, Junior shows his real character. You want to hear or listen. Patents with people is a virtue.
I felt the same thing bro when I watched his. I can’t wait to see him drive heavy loads and shift while watching the traffic. Should be interesting.
Ahh ok gotcha
Jacl Black the guy knows how to drive truck already. Junior was just showing him his technique
Yes that is correct. I really appreciate that 👍 Thank you 😎

I upshift by sound but down shift by rpm at 1000rpm bc I cannot hear it.
Training For Life my 5.0 is pretty loud and it’s supercharged how am I supposed to hear?
Dude you is stupid a profecianal driver uses rpm sounds and plus you start in first gear not fifth blc you eat the fucking box you idiot😐😱
Smh I work with a young guy like this. He don't wanna listen. I got my class A hands on after I'd left prime school I been driving for almost 20yrs & I still listen & learn because Most times those who know it all find out they know nothing at all, but patience is a virture. Good video.
I respect trainers so much man I got my license through FedEx freight but anybody training someone to drive trucks are the real mvp’s
The ones that know it all ,are the most dangerous.
Seems like the new student isnt that focused on what you have to say
I would have thrown this dude out the window just listen to your instructor damn once you get your truck drive it how you want to
Love the video training. It was helpful. I’m still a little skeptical about driving those big truck. But you make it look so easy.
I really appreciate you watching and thank you 👍
you're an EXCELLENT teacher. I admire your driving techniques and patients with some them students you teach. I'm a trinidadian and the trucks I drive are small in comparison to the ones you handle over there...
Reading the comments it's good to see I'm not the only one that was getting annoyed by your student!
Richard Hendrik don't hate
So... which one of you guys is the trainer?
Vanilla Thrilla lol word
Vanilla Thrilla my god hahaha
😂😂
Lolol
Could you do this again perhaps with a student that listens?
I like the fact that the teacher will listen to his student.
Great video!! & Thank you for being so patient!!
Just your patience alone made me subscribe!!!! Oh my lawd!!! Need about 2 blood pressure scripts for this student😳
😂
😂😂😂 this guy seems like he already knows how to drive. Keeps cutting out the instructor. I’m going to like this one more of a Comedy show for truck drivers.
Good Lord dude. Shut up! Junior, you are the most patient trainer I have ever seen. Kudos and hammer down.
Got a future super trucker on your hands
Low Vibes Photography I think he think he a super trucker now!
Yo I worked with that guy before. He just need to shut up and listen. Even if he knows how to drive. By listening he might learn something new.
juan reyes I agree he needs to listen and learn
The day you think you know everything you need to hang up your keys
Shut up and learn....thats how things work oldboy
Every video I watch you always train these smart ass dudes. Idk how you do it
Just listen and learn bro relax
I rev out and rev in when I’m downshifting the only time I use the clutch is when I’m getting the truck rolling again after coming to a complete stop.
I don’t know about anyone else. But I drive a 97 peterbilt and when it comes to turns loaded I tend to leave it it neutral and I can feel the truck and I normally get the gear I want but that’s just me not sure if I’m doing it rite or wrong but it works for me. Ummm.... is this the same guy that said he drove trucks from 10+ years? He needs to chill out
Back Seat Garage to be real I
I knew this fool was full of himself when o heard him talk
Interesting how Junior asks the clearly experienced driver to look at the side mirrors every time he turns and then puts subtitles in the bottom saying the driver needs ‘refreshments’. Anybody else notice this?
You’re a good instructor bro. Keep it up. Thanks for the lesson
You double clutch when slowing so that if you are on a hill you reduce the possibility of a run away and you can better control the truck....
Junior has good content helping me while in CDL school thanks brother
You Can't learn if you don't Listen you are Very Patient Junior

Junior god bless you, dealing with these knuckleheads they know everything.
I dont think this person respects you at all as a teacher. This sort of attitude will never have a positive outcome.
Not sure if anyone asked already, but what made Junior crack up laughing so hard in the beginning? I wanna laugh too 😂 I couldn't make it out.
Always a hot shot in the passenger seat. Dis respect

Wish you could of been my trainer bro that dude needs to shut up I had people like him in my class you got a new sub bro good job.
I really appreciate you watching and thank you 🇭🇳👍😎👍🇭🇳
Junior Honduras no problem bro be safe out there I'm trying to get my shifting up haven't shifted since 2004 when i graduated.
Ohh okay cool. Just remember it's all about the RPM's. When downshifting remembered lower gears required lower RPMs 🇭🇳👍😎👍🇭🇳
Junior Honduras thanks I'll do that
🇭🇳👍😎👍🇭🇳
This makes me miss my manual, only been an auto for a few weeks now. Shifting was like a game to me, always trying to get a quick and smooth shift without any grinding. Chicago and Atlanta rush hour will also make you want to learn how to float real quick.
Junior I finally learned to drive a 13 speed and it is way easier then a 10 and pretty fun .........keep up the good work videos are great

me personally I prefer the RTO fuller 13 speed but .. but hey to each their own as long as your safe get the job done it doesn't really matter ;)
Your a good trainer teacher
There is no way I could be a trainer good work
Just don't get mad at the new guy and leave him at the pilot
in flagstaff with 20 bucks a suitcase and a cell phone LOL
ofthechase I wouldn’t even leave him at Pilot I’d leave him at mile marker whatever
Awesome video, I think he is going to do well! If he can navigate outside of his comfort zone!
Ive been trucking so long that without thinking my right turn is normally on 7th gear. When im rushing , i turn in 8th , when im lazy to drive i turn in 6th or 5th
Every truck is different. Weight of load and sharpness of turn all will dictate the speed of the turn 👍🏽👍🏽
You're a boss. Good shit papa!
Yeah he is something, a piece of work, u have train a couple of guys that I would have left at the truck stop, good job
Me hace falta un professor como tu catracho, venga pa las vegas 😂.
Good stuff. Mirrors in a turn very important. If the turn is not right ya got time to brake. Curb, or person standing on sidewalk lamp post..
Lol dude thought he knew it all till he go into the truck with the master lol...gotta get you as a trainer il have my cdl asap
Hey Jr, I just scored my first gig after getting my cdl last week up here in Canada. Took a lot of your advice for backing and it helped me out a lot. I got it in Ontario--tons of jobs here.
Good Luck Out There Steven! Didn't know you personally but we worked at the same Publix Distribution.
Everyone whining about the trainee must have missed the caption: "Student knows how to drive, just needed a refresher on gears."
How about starting on 5th when you're stopped downhill and about to go down that hill? I find that my tractor moves smoothly when I do that. If I start this on 3rd, I find my tractor speed and rpms move too fast up to upshift smoothly and it can be a struggle.
For a student he got a whole lotta experience
Little like that grind won't hurt nothing
Always start in 3rd? I've been driving for 8 years and I start in 2nd and even 1st gear all the time when it is necessary.
Man I'm doing it all wrong I need to go back to school. 1500 to 1600 when I shift less strain on clutch and keeps engine up in its power range
Trucker Erik JOURNEY'S Here in Canada they show us to shift at 1400 - 1500 and unshift at 950-1100
Older trucks man 1300 to 1800 rpm idk about these new ones
Every truck is different. It’s hard to say exactly what rpms to shift at.
Especially when climbing and going down. That number changes.
BrandonPryorMusic every truck I've driven is been the same 1500 shift up 1400 shift down to save on clutch ware
I live in the mountains,I never let it go below 1300. 1300-1900. Don't matter what you are driving.
My my my head hurts the wind blew on my head😄😄😄
U are a good trainer u are hard on ya students but u always teach em right.. u be like slow down SLIW DOWN CLUTCH CLUTCH DOWN IT SHOULDNT TAKE THIS LONG LOOK AT YA MIRRORS LOOK AT YA RPMS I SHOULDNT HAVE TO TELL U this lol.. we wud have a love hate relationship but I enjoy watching your vids bro!! I jus received my permit
I usually clutch out and float in when I am downshifting, upshifting is pure float
Jr..I'm a trainer at the company that operates BROWN day cabs. Telling you now, cut him. He doesn't listen or apply your instructions.
JR ,YOU ARE SO PATIENT, THE STUDENT IS PAIN IN THE A..!!!!!!!!
Hope the student learned to shut his mouth and listen. You had the patience of Job. I contacted PRIME Inc. and they stated that they don't teach manual anymore. If this is true I am going to get my CDL A before coming to eliminate a restriction on my license.
Dude with the red shirt knows what he's saying
Nice, junior love the vids
To your student this kind of attitude and behavior will get him in some kind of trouble in the future.
Mr. knows it all. Maybe he don’t need you J.R... still good learning video.
Student! listen and get your notepad out. You're training with one of the best...#safety1st...
Plot twists, Junior is the Trainee in this video! 😁
Saludos Junior, daamn, that kat think he knows or at least he acts
Ya I flunked my road test because I panicked not to roll back onto two cars right up the trailer, I forgot to put the splitter down. Stalled out. Duhhh..automatic failure...lol 😆
Clutching out and free-floating the second movement is called hybrid shifting
10:50 the trainee laughed like a hyaena
Who's teaching who? 32 years watching videos because this trait is starting to interest me!
Junior you inspire me.
Do you have a video on a basic straight back with the clutch?
Should set up a camera showing ur footwork on the bottom corner of the screen, and on behind you showing the control station on the other bottom corner... would be awesome
Dude may have been out of trucking for a couple years so he had to go get a refreshment course , but one thing for sure, once you know how to drive a truck you never forget. So the trainee just may know what he’s talking about, just saying.
Junior much better attitude in this vid
This guy reminds me of Paul Blart, Mall Cop.
Is there a such thing as giving it too much gas when you let off the clutch or is it an even amount and you just have to figure it out sometimes I stall because I don't give it enough and I'm wondering if I should just push the gas in to make sure and just play with the clutch
This dude talks so damn much..... I admire Juniors patience with him......
nice video bro I would love to learn how to drive trucks good work
Lordy this student crassi learning style
If you have ever been stuck in a three hour traffic jam that manual transmission is garbage.
ExtremeRecluse 14 hrs from Houston to Dallas for hurricane rita evacuation. Clutch leg was fried when I got to Dallas
14 hours.... thought there was an 11 hour rule?
I used to drive for Prime. I had no buzzers buzzers. Leased truck too. Took good care of trailers. No dog tailers.
I never used his tactics.
@@HaVoC_TX yea so
Hello. Even though Prime Inc is going to all automatics, can we request a trainer that drives a manual so that we could test out on a manual? I'm asking because I don't want any restrictions on my cdl. I would hate to just have an automatic restriction on my cdl.
Good video junior.
At first there junior I thought you were going to have your hands full with the student driver good video tho from Bryan Crigger from Newark Ohio
you know how that old saying goes Junior : " If you can't find it grind it "
Sounds like the same trailer I uses to practice backing in.
This Student is turning everything around so it sounds like he knows what he is talking about,in reality he doesn't know anything...
The problem is in America only a few people know how to use a manual transmission. And I am referring to normal cars. SO Its always going to be harder to use a manual on a truck if they have never used it on a car. If you know how to use it on a car your its going to be easy to know where all the gears are on a truck.
Junior...I have my cdl...but want to go to prime for reefer and learn how to shift...how can I get you as my mentor
11 years driving?? 🤔
Did prime check his references? 😁
