I appreciate that they showed that Sasha isn’t “just” a bully. She does care about Anne, they are friends, had been since kindergarten. But people change, and group dynamics change. Toxic friends don’t know they’re toxic. It’s easy for the power dynamic between two people to become unbalanced, especially when one of them acts so dominant. As Sasha became more domineering, Anne probably worried she’d lose her longtime friend if she told her “No.”. I’m curious what they’ll do with Sasha. She seemed to have a revelation there, and she doesn’t really want to hurt Anne. But she does want to go home, and from her perspective, the Toads are her best way to do that. She woke up in a jail cell, and learned the rules of this world from the ring side. She doesn’t care what happens to people here, she didn’t bond with a town over several months, she just wants to go home.
so you have to remember all of season 1 of amphibia came out in like 2 weeks in 2019 back then we didnt know how story heavy the show was going to be, and for some time it looked like it was going to be the 'funny frog show'. then this episode came out hits us in the face and we got stuck with a 1 year wait. This episode blew my expactions out of the water and is the first 10/10 amphibia episode for me. the fact that sasha was ready to kill herself to save anne is saying alot about how much she cares for her, and lean on me fits so well in the scene.

This is where Amphibia turns from just a good show to a great show. The show almost never demonstrated it's tragic and dramatic side to us before and yet it is here. Time for fun and games is over (at least for now).
I love how on the cliff, you can SEE Sasha doing the math and realizing that if she kept holding on to Anne, they would both die. She may have been fighting Anne, and she may not care about the frogs, but she does care about Anne.
I can't tell you how insane it was when this was coming out and funny frog show pulled a "this 13 years old is willingly falling to her death with lean on me playing in the background"
I think the “ your friends that love you line is a nod to maybe how Sasha’s home life is. But that’s just a theory. A film theory thanks for taking the time to read
Okay, If I've said it once, I'll say it twice:The season 1 finale of Amphibia is _small potatoes_ compared to the action-packed, traumatizing, emotionally-damaging season 2 finale and the heartfelt, chef's kiss beautiful emotionally-satisfying season 3 finale. Just sayin you might wanna buckle up and have a lotta tissues on you when you watch those episodes. Don't say I didn't warn you.
The part where Anne started to cry on top of the tower broke my heart. But seeing the Plantar family hug and comfort her gave me á warm feeling. At this point the full realization hit me how much I have grown attached to these wonderful characters. Sprig defending Anne and telling Sasha she doesn't know Anne was such a powerful moment. Thank you so much for your wonderful reactions. There are only three reactors I follow and subscribed to and you're one of them! I like how you don't talk over important scenes and are focused on what's happening; at the same time I enjoy hearing your impressions and opinions about the characters.
Something I think Amphibia does better than most shows is escalate to something absurdly epic but also feeling earned and natural. When I saw this episode I wondered how anything could get more epic feeling but, without spoiling anything, you haven't seen ANYTHING yet.
FUN FACT: They were severely under budget for season one so they used the rest of the budget to license Lean On Me. Also, on Disney+ when they shrink the credits, you can click on it to make it bigger again! Edit: sorry if you already knew that. 😅
I'm so glad they did- it was such a strangely dramatic, weird choice, but the second it started playing, you knew things were about it get so much worse... and then it starts to click into place and you're like "oh shit..."
It really is such a surprise how seamlessly this show transitions from fun goofy shenanigan's, with some interesting and deep undertones at the start. To a much more serious high stakes show with complex character dynamics and storytelling, and you know its only going to continue because things can never be the same after this for everyone involved. Also without spoilers, I'm just gonna say that if you were super impressed by the ending sequence of this ending, season 2 and 3's endings manage to top it and top each other imo, its gonna be a long way to get there but its so interesting looking back on the whole journey.
You know, as far as the voice acting goes I don't think Troy Baker (The voice of Grime) gets talked about enough. He is honestly very good at understanding the character he's playing. He plays Grime as a fierce, stoic, ruthless, and well-combated official who's learning about different strategies on how to let the people know that he is the boss. Which is exactly who Grime is at this point. I know that this is really just an opinion, but I thought that it needed to be said.
For me, the most emotional part is the way that, right before the moment where Grimes catches her, Sasha starts to turn towards the ground. She was looking up, falling, but then turns towards the ground as though accepting her fate as punishment for hurting her friend. That's the moment that really gets me.
If you thought season 2 of Owl House took it up a notch you will be BLOWN AWAY by this show’s second season especially the finally! Speaking of which WATCH OUT FOR SPOILERS! Especially near the finally. Anyway I love your reactions. Keep it up!
I was like woah. This is a disney show, and they showed a character actually giving up her own lif, but then being saved. Was amazed by the amzing storytelling, the amazing voice acting (as always). I love this show so much.
I cannot wait for your season 2 reactions! Without spoiling anything, I think it features some of the best story telling, best humor, and best character development out of the entire series. But of course that's just my opinion.
Season 2 is the best season imo, best storytelling, best plot, best finale... Oh man, I can’t wait to see his reaction to the s2 finale. Unfortunately that’s not till December.
We saw here just how important Anne’s friendship with Sprig has been to her. When Sasha was manipulating Anne into standing down, it was Sprig’s mud ball sling shot that snapped her out of it and allowed her to stand up for herself and her friends.
One of the best season 1 finales ever. So much is told so efficiently, that you are left blown away. It really elevates the show going into a season 2, where the stakes are raised greatly.
I also really enjoyed the song choice for that scene! I had chills watching it happen. Loved Ann standing up to Sasha. But also when she let go! That shows a part of her character development/ arc. It’s not much. But it’s just a little glimpse at it. So I loved that

Since you're such a big fan of the music, check out the musical themes for Anne and Sasha. They're actually played several times throughout the series in different remixes depending on the mood. Anne's "regular" theme is basically the credits song, and Sasha's plays almost everytime she talks in this episode. Once you've heard them a couple times, you'll spot them instantly even when remixed. Just use a friend's computer or use incognito so youtube doesn't start recommending you spoilers lol Also, check out the Sasha Theme Song Takeover which is the Amphibia opening but with Sasha's POV
I think Mikey should watch all the shorts excluding wild amphibia (Because that mostly sucks) and chili tales (To stay spoiler free) after he's done watching all of season 2 honestly.
I could be wrong, but I think when Sasha told Hop Pop she thought he’d be taller, she might have been referring to Hop Pop’s voice actor also voicing Goofy, who is definitely a tall character.
That crying at the end is very understandable. She been with Sasha since kindergarten, 8 years of her life. At 13 that is more then half her life not including what you dont remember as a baby. No matter how you see it, loosing a friend for that long is going to hurt.
Keep watching Grime and the Grime/Sasha relationship. His/their arcs are unique. Now... how did I feel? Anne throughout the first season is a careless, lazy, unthinking girl who inspires chaos, but she is able to learn from her mistakes and has a good heart. Sprig says it, she's a hero, but this is where the hero begins to shine and she really comes into herself. It isnt just character development... she has "character", moral development. The series starts with her shoplifting the music box, clearly manipulated by her friends. It isnt just knowing the difference between right & wrong, she's learning to stand up for what is right.
I expected this behaviour from Sasha the whole time. I could tell from Prison Break that she was bossy and manipulative and loved having power and control. I was fully expecting her to be a villain the next time we seen her.
People have mixed feelings on Amphibia, but it's hard to argue that the season finales aren't absolutely phenomenal. I like Gravity Falls more but I think Amphibia has the better finales. They always hit so hard

No joke, this episode is one of the best things I've seen, and probably the peak of Amphibia as a whole depending on who you ask. I won't comment on that, but I will say, whenever I look back on this episode, all the emotions I felt when first watching it I feel again, tenfold. It's a mastercraft in everything television and animation can do when cobbled together.

This was the episode that really got me hooked. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed Season 1 but it was not extraordinary imo compared to other shows (at their peaks of course). But this episode just is a masterpiece. And from that moment on I've always looked forward to watching the next episode and the show started to become my favorite cartoon of all time.
I still have no idea where Sasha gets the normal human food from. Like, is that stuff made from actual earth animals like cows, pigs, and chickens? How to the toads know how to make that stuff?

I'm pretty sure you can turn of the skip to next episode thing on Disney+ so you can watch the whole credits, I'd really recommend it since the show has a couple credits you're going to want to sit through.
Mike, got a question for you: what do you think of Mayor saving the frogs? He is a toad himself. He could have joined the toads and subsided everyone under his reign, but he did come through for his folks. What do you think of his development with Warthwood with Anne around?
Something insane and incredible that never crossed my mind is that Grime thinks Anne dropped Sasha. Like, seriously. Grime knows that Sasha is upset when we them in season 2 but also never implies that it was her fault that their friendship was ruined. Grime makes that angry face at Anne at the end of this episode because, until somewhere late in season 2, Grime thinks that Anne dropped Sasha to her death.
Holy cow I think they should’ve let sasha fall and not shown Grimes picking her back up, I think she still should’ve lived but not let it be shown. Also Lean On me, Not expecting that at all that was so emotional. I love that you recognize both sides and the emotional baggage this has. Great video, it’s January 6th this is part 20/?

As soon as the first note of "Lean on Me" played, I knew the song immediately, and I either started crying right away, or I already was at that point.

I love this Finale, especially when "Lean on me" is playing. But this is still only number 3 on my Finale list. The other two are just that good.

Out of the big 3, Amphibia, Gravity Falls and The Owl House. This is actually my favorite! :) Then Gravity Falls as the second. Both amazing shows!

Something insane and incredible that never crossed my mind is that Grime thinks Anne dropped Sasha. Like, seriously. Grime knows that Sasha is upset when we them in season 2 but also never implies that it was her fault that their friendship was ruined. Grime makes that angry face at Anne at the end of this episode because, until somewhere late in season 2, Grime thinks that Anne dropped Sasha to her death.

Holy cow I think they should’ve let sasha fall and not shown Grimes picking her back up, I think she still should’ve lived but not let it be shown.
