I've have only seen the first half of the new casted Vision of Escaflowne, but i have seen the original Japanese fully through many times, as it is and will always be my favorite anime, and even favorite tv show ever. In its entirety, it is highly thematic and character driven, and it all flows together perfectly, even the parts hat dont seem to make sense of why they decided to put them in. But I gotta say, to this recent re-casted Vision of Escaflowne, it was excellent. AND they finally got Delandou down perfectly. Even his voice sounds like it does in the original Japanese, but just speaking english, although a little less maniacal laughing.
Also, since i can simply listen to it, now that it has a good sounding voice cast, I have noticed a whole lot more of what was happening. I like the original cast and the sound of their voices, in the ocean dub, but they just werent told to deliver it properly. Dornkirk and Brian Dobson were two of the only original ocean dub voice actors who seemed to consistently deliver it properly. I gotta say too, that they finally got Van down perfectly too. The fact that he scream yells like in the original, was something that was missing from the ocean dub and especially in when he killed all of the dragon slayers, he was supposed to yell like a demon, but in the ocean dub, his voice was just raised a little.
With this new voice cast, everything flows rightly, and basically, its how Escaflowne should have been originally for American audiences. Speaking of influences, if you have seen a movie called Excaliber, you can make some observation of similarities of Arthurian legend in there too. For example; the sword in the stone and only a certain royal line is able to wield it and draw it out of the stone. Excaliber is the sword of power, but Escaflowne is the Guymelef of power. But in the case of Escaflowne, the entire stone that it is in becomes the weapon. Draw Excalibur out of the stone, and when you draw Escaflowne, the entire stone becomes the weapon. Even Escaflowne's battle theme is influenced by Oh Fortuna from Excaliber. There are also influences of Arthurian legend in Allen and Van. Allen is like Lancelot and Van is like Arthur, although Van is more rash. Allen is a perfect knight, but has problem with women, and even with a princess that is supposed to marry another man.
And just like with Excaliber, which is in the background but is at the heart of the fate and destiny of kingdoms and men, so the Guymelef, Escaflowne, which has only any limit because of the weakness of it's pilot, is at the heart of the entire series. It is called the Vision of "Escaflowne", but it involves many different kinds of people and places.
Excaliber, the sword of power and that which has effected the rise and fall of kingdoms. Escaflowne, the Guymelef of power, which has effected the rise and fall of kingdoms.

Some strange takes i usually never hear concerning Escaflowne. The animation was very good despite the folks here saying it was mid.
I have no faith in anyones music tastes if they think the soundtrack to this show was anything but phenomenal and memorable.
By the standards of modern isekai crap, Escaflowne is A+.
The final episodes are the only glaring weak point due to the scheduled episode layout getting gutted and the studio having to blitz through the last bits to make it wrap up in far less time.
