Description of Ford Truck taken from Wikipedia "The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks and medium-duty trucks (Class 2-7) that have been marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since 1948. While most variants of the F-Series trucks are full-size pickup trucks, the F-Series also includes chassis cab trucks and commercial vehicles.
The most popular version of the F-Series is the Ford F-150, produced in thirteen different generations. It has been the best-selling vehicle in the United States since 1981 and the best-selling pickup since 1977.[1][2] It is also the best selling vehicle in Canada.[3]
In 1999, to bridge the gap between the pickup line and the medium-duty trucks, the F-250 and F-350 were redesigned separately with the introduction of the Ford Super Duty series. Currently, the F-Series includes the F-150, the Super Duty (F-250 through F-550), and F-650 and F-750 Super Duty medium-duty commercial trucks.
Through rebadging, the F-Series has sold through all three divisions of Ford Motor Company in North America. The Mercury M-Series was sold in Canada from 1946 to 1968 due to the limited dealership network in rural areas. The Lincoln Blackwood and Lincoln Mark LT were rebadged versions of the Ford F-150 sold during the 2000s as Lincoln attempted to market a luxury pickup truck."l .

Wow i didn't realize there was a time when commercials would actually make you want to buy something. I totally want an 80's Ford pickup now.
GeneralLee131 me neither, and I hate ford for that pos ecobich, but I want a old ford now lol.
same
I'm still driving my 87. Good truck, man.
Best body style they ever discontinued.
Back then a Lariat was like 20k, not the 70k it is today.
Yeah no kidding
Ok what did I learn today?
a) Independent Front Suspension
b) 80's car commercials were actually good
c) I know what type of truck I want
Ford cheap brand with gm parts
Gm had independent suspension in the 50s along with 4x4 self-locking disc brakes Ford only in the 80s
Independent front suspension is what killed Real Four Wheel drive and Ford trucks.
Straight axle was the best 4x4 .
I did own an 83 F-100 3 on the tree. 300 six cylinder. 2 wheel peel
I would love to have another..

Jez someone is salty. Aerodynamics is the properties of a solid object regarding the manner in which air flows around it. Maybe the 1980s Ford trucks are more aerodynamic than older models, but it's funny because it's not at all aerodynamic by today's standards.
Me: complains about a five seconds add in a different video.
Also me: hmmm a 10 minutes video of commercials from the 1980's? Sounds good
But these are commercials we want to watch.
🤣 i get you
Yeah but these commercials are so much better

Why is this true?
Yeah it's true
Chevy threw a toolbox on one there truck beds and got damaged badly it was funny
Chevy: let's talk shit about a competitor using aluminum bodies.
Also Chevy: lets build cars out of plastic
Elias Silva your gonna need a tool box for the Chevy when it breaks down

Greg Mercil that was the whole point not like today were your at 100,000 miles and the thing just gives out on you

Hank does seem partial to Fords.
Literally all I could think about 90% of this video.
I tell u what.

“Yup”
I don't know how many of you noticed, but those Fords had independent front suspension!
WOW I DIDN'T NOTICE THAT. Even tough the man kept saying it in every comercial
Mario Gillette. they are junk. when you park and backup. toe in and out is screwed up
Mario Gillette it's the only selling point
My opinion is that if you want a 4 by 4 you want a solid front axle it just makes more sense
the drop off was only like 5 feet
its a shame therers not commercial like this any commercials like this anymore. all the commercials nowadays are about how big there computer dash display is, and how nice the seats feel. what a shame,

@silverbird58 what?
We have diesel ranger in NZ and Oz dunno where else it's sold though
I wasn’t born around this time but I’m guessing all car commercials were like the fast and furious franchise
Most of them were
Chevy: "look at that Gay tailgate step on the F150 " , twenty years later , Chevy engineers : "Hey , lets put an over-engineered tail gate step on our 3rd best selling truck !

That multi step tailgate from GM becomes immediately usless as soon as you put a trailer hitch in the rear. They never thought that the step function would hit the hitch 😂😂😂
Dodge should have kept making the 440 and the 426 Hemi for their trucks then Dodge would have been the best selling pick up Not Ford

I miss those twin-i-beam suspensions!
They back budro 💪💪💪

Wow I didn't know ford had that independent front suspension on the 4x4 F series.
And what happened? Exactly.
My grandpa has a 72 Ford f-250 high boy. With a 460 and 4 speed. Never replaced a part. Original Ford air conditioning, original paint, original interior. He is 78 now, and still uses it every day. Built Ford tough.
It's funny to watch the gas mileage go down every year.
...And gas prices go up
Had to laugh, both the Ranger and the F-150 were the same and note in the one commercial, it's an F-250 doing the climbing with the Chev on back pulling the Dodge. :-)
You should see how much gas mileage my 89 F350 with a 460 gets 🤑
This is why I love the Cybertruck. It brought is right back to when Trucks were actually useful.
@@jd_kreeper2799 I'm not sure what you mean by useful but I used to want to V8 swap my gmc Sonoma, but after watching muscle and luxury cars refuse to even line up next to a Tesla at a drag race, I knew electric restomod is the only way to go. Yes but consider how many more FORD trucks were sold because of the commercial. All they had to do was buy a few chevy trucks here and there. Then on top of that, they totally shit on the chevy brand, likely decreasing sales, to a certain extent. So I'm not too sure GM were laughing...
At least ford could afford to buy those Chevys lol . Unlike GM getting bailed out by the government every so often .

My 94 150 is still on the road pushing 400,000 on the original engine best truck I ever had also love the 90s jeeps 80's and 90's era trucks are build so much stronger then they are today I'll never buy the new versions they are to complicated when something goes wrong it's all computerized and most have sealed units like imports it's just to keep people from doing the work themselves that's why they make them like shit and charge you a fortune so you keep coming back I guess not enough people would bring older trucks into dealship to fix so maybe they lost money In that area and had to compromise
ken smith yeah its called planned obsolescence they put all these electronics in them and all electronics will break down over time then your stuck going back to Ford to get ripped of at The dealer.

Are we gonna ignore it got 29mpg high way?
Commercials WAY over estimated fuel economy in those days for some reason, I had a 1990 F-150 with a 302 V8 as my first truck in high school back in 2004 an don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved the truck, but fuel efficient it was not, city mpg was around 13ish and on the highway 15mpg was pretty normal, 16 was doable with a slight tailwind, and it only did that good because it had the AOD 4-Speed auto overdrive transmission, had a friend who had a nearly identical 302 powered 1987 model with the C6 3-Speed auto and his mileage on the highway sometimes in the single digits.
I never got, or get that kind of mileage out of a Ford truck or Bronco. They were always overestimated back then.
But it really didn't. The testing for fuel economy back then was B.S. Hence why you see the later models boasting a much lower fuel economy. It's not because the technology got worse on the vehicles, it's because the testing standards got more strict.
@@nathanmcdonald610 That actually isn't terrible for that truck. Heck, my 2103 Frontier V6 only gets about 18-19. You might scratch 20-21 in straight highway miles. Gets closer to 16 in the snow. The manufacturer lists it as 18/26. No way you could even get close to that with A/T tires, which I have. Maybe, MAYBE with shallow tread summer road tires on straight highway usage on cruise control pegged right at 65 you could get 26 mpg. Maybe. Trucks just get lousy mileage and everyone knows that so I don't know why manufacturers try to fool people.
Digital Footballer lol 2103? I think we would all be dead by then and cars would be floating electric plastic

It's interesting how much they harp on the gas mileage, yet today when gas mileage is a much bigger issue they are totally moot on the issue.
Yeah I see what you mean but back then it was because of high gas prices instead of emissions

I see a lot of comments on people seeing more old Chevy's than Ford's. I've been in the Automotive business for 35 years and after about 10 years when upkeep becomes a factor on any truck the difference is not durability, but cost. Chevy's are cheaper to keep going than Ford or Dodge. Always have been. Also, a much higher percentage of Fords are bought for work than GM's. In my experiences Ford's are excellent trucks, especially when abused. The people that have the audacity to talk about Toyota trucks, what are they used for? CPA's driving to the office everyday and having someone come our and wash and wax them once a week.
1LOCKNLOAD Toyota trucks are nice if you live in a crowded city area and are tight on cash ... especially if you don't haul enough to justify a biger truck.
On problem thse era trucks had is the ignition control module would crap out and its really hard to diagnose. Not crapping on them i have one but we almost did scrap it because we couldnt figure out why it wouldnt start but luckily a last minute googling saved it and its running fine now
1LOCKNLOAD I've owned every brand and am a mechanic an I can definitely say Toyota>GM>Ford>Dodge (Usually). Toyota's you don't even fuck with. GMs you just take care of the normal shit past 100,000k like starters, alternators, fuel pumps, ect. Ford's, depending on the engine, are great but have the same issues as GM with the additional random headache that usually takes breaking more shit to be able to fix the one thing, they just feel more "temperamental". The ones from the 80s were great but the new ones from 97 on are complete shit that I could fold like paper. Dodges just completely fall apart to the point we're I don't even trust the bed of the truck to stay on. All have pretty solid engines for the most part but if I were buying just an engine obviously I'd buy an LS anything. One thing I can also say about any of my GM cars as no matter how bad of shape they were in, they always pulled through the worst conditions and got me home.
Joseph Dawson In my area 80s Toyotas are prominent with people who actually mud and work. Fords and the like are always waxed and shined like a minivan. With the occasional exception of the restored badass.
@@whechi Toyota is a pile of shit that bends and warps on uneven surfaces like a recently tilled field. C-frames are not the future in North American pickup trucks. They are for softly cruising the highway to the office.
If Dodge can sort out its transmission problems inherited from Daimler, they have a real shot.
My dad had a really nice 4x4 when he was younger. I wonder if it's still somewhere on this earth. I think it was one of a kind too because I looked at some images online and there is none that looks exactly the same. Looking at these old commercials really makes me want one from the 80s. 😍
I'll have one of every one of these classics. Thanks. Especially of course the Fords but honestly any of the trucks in these commercials. Reason? Everyone of them are made tougher than the 80,000$ computers on the road now.
Oh what I would do if I could buy a brand new 1980s ford I would be the happiest man alive! Especially today with something that primitive and so much better than today’s stuff it would be ground breaking!
Find 96 model with low mileage. Not an easy search.it was the end of that design. No frills just tough as nails.
I tend to think the 1973 - 1979 were the better trucks of that era. Dang sure was not the 1980 model year......the F-150; F-250; F-350...and even the Bronco all had "swiss cheese" frames. Virtually impossible to find ANY 1980 Ford model year trucks on the road.
I have an 87 F150 10 out of 10 wouldn’t recommend. It has all kinds of electrical issues and drinks oil like BP wants it back
@@michaellee8442 Although I do not doubt your comment.....statements like this are meaningless unless quantified with some details.....engine type? mileage? maintenance records? etc. Same is true with Chevrolet, GMC and Dodge trucks. That said...there are certain models and certain years of those models that all 3 manufacturer's have made that are both 'good' and 'bad' vehicles.
Two45s its an 87 lariat xlt 5.0 v8, 4 spd auto 2wd drive actual mileage unknown some where between 71,898 and 471,898
I guess now we know why Ford sold so many of these. They really were the best trucks on the road in the 80's.
always were .
I own a 1980 custom f250 and it's still kicking ass in the Rocky mountains... 👍👍👍
I drive a BMW and these ads made me want a ford truck
Yet my 2005 v6 mustang still gets 19 mpg lmao
Zack Attack i have a 05 mustang v6 too! 🤣
That's alright, my tired old 89 f250 only gets about 8 mpg nowadays
That's the reason why you still hold in my 91 F150 with a 6 cylinder
So reliable they discontinued it. Couldn't make enough money off those engines.
you know now I actually want one
I genuinely didn't know they used to advertise their commercial line. Good stuff 👌
