I'm Italian... And probably for that reason I enjoy my evening glass of red wine (just 1! 😅)... At the end of an hard day it helps me to relax and start a nice evening.
I'm in a good shape and I try to balance my life and my passion for fitness and healthy nutrition.
So if I have to choose between a biscuit or wine I choose wine because it gives me more joy!
I think that if you are in track 80% of your time (90 in mine) a 10% of indulgence it's not so bad! It's a balanced life!

That's what I started doing since I started dry January and beyond. I rather do that than spend more money for those non alcoholic wines. I was a heavy drinking from my late teens through my early 30s. I decrease my alcohol intake tremendously once I married and started a family. I was no longer in a heavy drinking environment. Although I only drank on my off days and other occasions more recently, I really didn't like the disturbed sleep, dehydration and the anxiety I felt the day after.

Alcohol has become a real weakness for me, I drink daily, and I know it where my weight gain has come from. I find it so hard to cut it out, but this video has given me some good inspo. Even if I start by cutting it out for a time then reintroduce it in a healthier and more balanced way. Thanks, I needed this today. 💗

Although I always realised that my drinking was doing me no good, it was my decision to begin serious fitness training that ultimately led me to quit. I consume 2 bottles of wine a week. All of it happens Fri-Sun. During that time I am still in a deficit as those are by running days so I burn more calories. I am in a slight deficit the rest of the week also, ~200 calories. I feel that I am in pretty good shape for being 50 and even though I might not be gaining as much muscle as those wine calories should be replaced with protein calories, for example, my mind and body are in a happy place. I have a rollercoaster relationship with alcohol. One time when I was really focusing on fitness I cut it out completely and lost 10 lbs in one month without counting calories to make sure I was in a deficit. I was only exercising 30 mins most day of the week without cardio, just some body weight stuff. Didn’t even miss my wine. Other times I have a drink almost every day.
I’m torn between quitting completely, just like a did with coffee (I don’t miss it, I love my green tea), or going for a sustained balance.

There really is no right or wrong answer other than finding the balance that makes us feel best! And I think it's knowing that creating a "lifestyle" also does mean things will change over time. You may cut it out for a time...then decide you want to test out a drink once a week. Or you may decide you love never drinking and never go back. But the key is being ok with our lifestyle also adjusting as our needs and goals change!

I prefer a nice, lower alcohol glass of wine (red or white). Though I am not a big drinker anyway, so it isn’t a big issue for me to just have a glass or two when out with friends. Many times I choose to be the designated driver, so it helps to not drink or, at the most, have 1-2 glasses of wine.

Many of my friends drink beer but forget to eat or beer and food are not really good friends for some people causing to lessen your eating frequency. My grandpa was a whisky and he managed to keep low weight and he ate a lot. I've noticed drinking affect your eating frequency it depends on your socializing lifestyle like my folks. I have a weakness for beer. Good beer, not industrial standardized dishwater, you know, the thick craft products of small breweries that do little volume but with high quality ingredients. Those tend to be very high in empty calories, and working in a pub that serves only craft beers, I'm kinda doomed.
Well, I learned to balance. I allow myself only ONE pint on a saturday night, because Saturday is usually the busiest day and the owner of the pub usually holds a small staff meeting with free food and beer after closing time(most of the time I work in the kitchen, so I can make my own food too).
I haven't gained a pound since I started working there. On the contrary, I'm losing weight because I'm constantly bustling around between the kitchen and the tables, taking orders and bringing food and drinks to customers. In addition, I still maintain a good workout routine split between weights and running days.
    Moderation is the key!

    Topped with mineral water,

It does something. Sometimes seems to prevent weight loss and simulate royalty feel bloated and dehydrated from a drink. I think it is unpredictable. It’s a hard call I notice that I don’t often enjoy drinking alone and when I am around other drinkers I want a drink and when I am with people who don’t drink I generally don’t miss it. I wonder how much of drinking is just social conditioning and that social stimulation something about it produces dopamine

My main drinks are water, coffee, tea, and, sometimes, Gatorade (it was 91 degrees on the tennis court yesterday and I drank 32 ounces). I have the Asian Genetic problem where my body does not metabolize alcohol well so alcohol makes me very uncomfortable. I typically drink no more than one ounce per year. I actually don't understand why people drink alcohol.

Would you possibly considering doing a video about losing weight while on meds like steroids? I am steroid dependent for life (Addisons disease- secondary) and even on maintenance doses weight gain is an issue. Steroids cause changes in how we break down carbs, insulin resistance, slow metabolism etc. I recently started counting macros and trying to really eat healthier especially since I can't be super active due to my health but I find myself terrified of carbs since I've been seeing that the ONLY way to lose weight on these meds is by going low carb (which I can't do. I'm trying to stick with about 125g carbs a day and no more than 1400 cals a day). Most of my carbs come from healthy foods like fruits/veg/oatmeal.
I'd love to see your take on situations like these.

are there certain alcohol that is less sugary and less calories that would be better than say a sangria which is a lot more sugar than a gin and tonic? Is vodka more recommended than say tequila?

I used to drink either before or after nights out. I would do leg days hung over simply to challenge myself. I probably even smelled like booze but never realized it (much more apparent to people who don't drink). I found I could train hard but saw very minimal gains. I guess I already knew much of the information in this video first-hand... but unfortunately had to learn the hardest (and stupidest) way.
I've seen really good gains in my 30's especially when abstaining. Even at time where I couldn't train 100% due to lower back problems. I really regret my habits in my 20's and therefore have to preach to the younger people reading this to not repeat my mistakes! The healthy balance is key!!
Abstaining for at least a few months will lower your alcohol tolerance to such an extent that you won't need to drink 15 beers to have a good time.

Gave up on that years ago and it was the best call I've made.
Still I agree with some benefits of alchool in small doses of course.
However Cory for stress and self fulfillment I recommend meditation, it helped me a lot 😉.

    Ok, some comments and observations…
    One
Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and I jumped out of perfectly good airplanes I can categorically state that many a 5 mile run was made by little troopies still legally drunk from the night before
    Two
My god woman!!!! That was a mighty broad spectrum of booze for the casual social drinker. Me thinks someone’s college days are best left in the dark recesses of the past lol!
    Three
Aside from the excellent content, I believe it’s almost time for someone to branch out into stand up. The facial expressions are priceless.
    Four
It truly is a breath of fresh air to hear someone realistically address the alcohol issue. Thank you
    Five

I like vodka with cranberry as yeasty drinks give me UTIs….the cranberry balances this out whilst no bubbles from fizzy drinks make it a nice drink. I drink a few maybe once or twice a year though 😂😂😂

I have to have my one drink of scotch every night. That’s 45 ml standard shot with club soda.
If all this is true how do they suggest 2 drinks a day for men.

In Bavaria, monks developed the “beer diet”. It is not that easy, because you are only aloud to consume beer for your daily calories, nothing else! These diet works to loose weight, but afterwards you need a while to get the shape. Prost!

    Red wine and Guinness
    No, not together
And for a cheap summer drink, Old Milwaukee with fresh orange squeezed in it. A shit ton cheaper and as tasty as the exorbitantly priced apricot heffies

Most people don't know or understand what moderation is.
I'm not shaitan alcohol but I just don't like it. I always say no if I'm asked if I want a beer or drink..
I might have a beer or two on a hot day of on working hard.. That's all.. It just doesn't interest me at all
