  • I take a run through of the "Mainstay" 3000t freighter book from Moontoad publishing. At a whopping 101 pages, its a big PDF. If you like what you see, you can grab a copy using this link: www.drivethrurpg.com/product/...

I was going to pass on this as just another ship book, but all the bonus stuff really makes it stand out as a product.

In my game, I read "weeks" of operational range as YEARS. Modern day fission-fueled nuclear warships refuel only every few years. I refuse to believe far-future fusion plants aren't at least as efficient.

This far in the future technologies will have been lost and some rediscovered... Here's a suggestion, remove duct tape from your Traveller universe and see the players squirm! LOL

Based on the Mongoose 2016 rules it looks like to use 55 tons of fuel in 3 weeks would need to have (assuming TL 8- TL 11) constant use of about 7333 units of power to blow through 55 tons of fuel in 3 weeks. A more reasonable 1800 units of power (Basic 600, J2 600 and M2 also 600) would give you 3 months which seems more likely even though during most of that time you wouldn't be using Jump and I can't easily imagine using another 600 points of power 24/7 so even then it would be more like 4.6 months. Could be a misprint of weeks for month and using peak power output rather than typical output.

@@Scanner9631 "Weeks of operation" is pretty standard for Mongoose 2E ship designs, so I don't think it's a misprint. But either way, I prefer years of operation to weeks or months. It just seems more reasonable to me.

I never understood the whole no low lighting to save on costs meme. Your running a fusion power plant ffs and your telling me it can't spare the juice to run a dozen light bulbs?

Maybe you don’t use bright lighting inside the ship to better acclimate the crew to needing to visually see things (night vision) outside the ship? Hulk defects? It’s a stretch.
Or maybe the crew runs with minimal lighting because the company takes out of their pay any excess electricity they use? Depends on how dystopian your setting is.

Basic power to operate minimum systems is 20% of tonnage. For example a 100 ton ship uses 20 power just for that. The Type S Scout/Courier if running at 2g and trying to make a Jump 2 uses 60 points and that is without sensors operating or needing to fire weapons. So if you are running from an enemy and trying to Jump with your sensors active you have to lower acceleration at least a little or not power all the basic systems briefly (dimming lights lowering artificial gravity etc) as the Scout only generates 60 points. (This is with Mongoose 2016 rules).
