I used to play the AD333 Tour but as they are discontinued I'm not sure Wha I'm gonna play next season. I've got 1 box left before I have to decide on a new ball. I am contemplating the Bridgestone E12 contact, would love to see you test them
@@the_full_english Yeah I know but it's not the same price. I was buying the AD333 Tour for £21 now the Q star tour is £29. It may be the same ball but it's jumped up in price by around 40%
Put it in perspective. We pay $1200 for newest phone every year. And $500 on the newest game system every 5 years. Average car payment is around $700 a month. But $200 to $1300 depends on club and condition for something that will be able to be passed down for generations depends on your view. Blades and muscle backs basically look similar to 50yrs ago just face looks more modern. Balls are only expensive if you lose a lot so if you do just try the cheaper one you only lose maybe 5 yds. Top flight soft feel.
The Q Star numbers in this test are very good, especially for a 2 piece ionomer ball. The Z Star is about $17/dozen higher than the Q Star here in the USA- I'll take the Q Star all day long.
I currently play the Z star. I just recently started playing it. I couldn’t be happier. I spent seasons trying different balls and after testing almost everything, this Z star was my favorite. Srixon does a lot of promotions so price was part of it. But I love the feel, the spin, the green side check I get and it has been the longest ball off the tee. Add that to the times there is a buy 2 get 1 or a buy 3 get one and it was All around the best ball for me. I tried the Q star a few years ago. I hit a perfect 5 iron into a long a par 3. The ball didn’t stop like it normally would but bounced over the green. That was the last time I hit a shot that I knew what a normal ball I would play would do, and it didn’t do it. I am now back gaming a srixon z and I hope I keep playing this ball for the next 5 years at least.
As great as the Q-Star is, I'm beginning to feel that at $28/doz (2 piece ionomer) they're approaching a price that might make it tough to justify the purchase, especially when the Q-Star Tour (3 piece urethane) is only a few bucks more.
I switched from Pro V1 to Q Star and get better wedge spin with the PQ Star with similar driver distances. I like the red and yellow Divide version as they are easy to find in the rough and easy to tell how well they are spinning.
I have 3 dozen Q-Stars as I am a higher handicap/ beginner but want to start understanding the characteristics of a more premium ball as my game is progressing quite well. I have a dozen Z-star XVs in the closet so that I can properly test between the 2 once I'm more consistent and can make a better decision. I was patient and got both sets on sale so I make use of those to test brands
I'd be interested to see the difference in performance of the same ball with brand new vs "found" balls. As a middle handicapper that only plays social golf a few times a week, I just want a ball to perform reasonably, without any unexpected behaviour. I mostly play srixon balls, usually Qstar.
You should look at My Golf Spy reviews - they have videos on refurbished, lake, and even used and scuffed balls showing some serious performance impact. But if they are dry and in good shape I doubt there’s any issue. But research for yourself and see 👍
As you said, so much depends on strike. I think what you are paying for with the premium ball is consistency which comes from quality control in the construction of the ball.
Hi Mark. Great review that removes some myths around golf balls. I have two ball review requests for you. 1. ProV1X vs Vice Pro Plus. 2. ProV1X vs. Snell MTB.
I actually prefer Wilson Staff 50 Elite balls... I 100% know they are not premium, however I have learned how they behave with all my clubs.. they are cheap enough, and I don't lose them. That said.. when I do play with a Pro-V I notice the extra spin I don't really notice lower scores. I'm a pretty average player. I think WAY too many people play expensive balls.
Great video Mark. I find golf balls reviews very interesting . For the last 3 months I have been gaming Wilson duo Professional golf balls .They are one of the cheapest urethane golf balls on the market. £27 for 12 . I would love to see you do a review on them . Keep up the good work
I love the Z-star. It's a fantastic allrounder and good value for the money. I have tried a number of models last year and although ProV1 was the best of the lot, it just wasn't worth that extra 25% cost. Srixon AD333 is also a very good ball and likely offers the best value for the pound, but gets worn quite fast like if you flush your iron shots on three holes in a row, the ball is wasted. Z-star gets my vote. I'm playing of 8.4 and my strong game is from 130m in.
Mark, I am using the Vice Pro Plus. 5 dozen brings the price to $27 US/per. They also periodically have free personalization. I was fitted into it given I didn't want to pay $50 US for Titleist Pro Vs
Nice job Mark. Would like to see Z star vs Z star XV. I know you chose Z star for that lower mid iron spin, but would be great to quantify how much more spin XV offers. Would also love to see ProV1x vs Z star XV vs a roughie in Snell MTB-X. I’ve gamed all 3 and have settled on the Snell - great ball for the money. Would be great to see if they really are as similar (numbers wise) as I feel they are on the course. Cheers bruh
Played the TP5 X this last year, and had a great feel (and picked them up rather cheap at around $35 a dozen). However, bought some Kirkland as I have heard they play nice. Will know more once the courses are back open in the spring.
I'm playing hickories and will try the Q-star next. Bridgestone's E6 has been my ball for a season now. Lower compression helps keep our antique clubs from breaking. I like that approach shot spin for when I send a high one, but actually play many more low/running shots now.
I game the Q-Star tour. Handicap dropped from 11 to 9 ( almost 8). The only thing I would comment on. Stick with the same ball all season. I did. You adjust to it. I save cart path balls to practice chipping with. This leads to consistency around the greens.
Hi Mark, I play the Q Star Tour mainly because my swing speed is slower than it used to be. Because of this, I can get better distance from the Q Star. I used to play the Z Star for several years, but age has caught up with me. BTW, I really enjoy the reviews you post.
I just commented to the average golfer channel about your video on forged va cast when you can’t see or hear! Amazing how people still judge feel by sound, give my single digit handicap the most forgiving iron! If I hit a draw all day, I will adjust my aim and repeat it!
It would certainly be a great service to the playing public to see comparisons of all(most popular) brands "top tier price-point" balls and "mid-tier price point" balls, Mark! Thanks for the great info, as always...Cheers!
Pond balls I be using Mark. Namely Callaway Chromesoft, Titleist ProV1, Bridgestone, Srixon ZStar. Was using Taylormade TP5 and Project A - but i am not finding them anymore.
I play both the Q Star Tour and the Z Star XV. Q in the winter when the greens are softer and Z in the summer for that little extra spin on the firmer greens. Works for me.
I use the Z-Star in the summer and generally start each round with a new ball. In the winter season I use the AD333 and buy a box at the start of winter and use them until they run out
I've still got some AD333 Tours and Callaway Chrome Soft which I use for winter fodder. I also recently bought some Vice Pro Plus and was impressed with them but I have just got myself a supply of Pro V1x which seems to give me a better ball flight with the driver.
Thanks Mark, played the Q-Star tour all summer. Played ProV prior and only difference was QST rolled out more on approach with mid and short irons. I did see a review earlier this year saying 30% of QST balls are not truly round, but I didn't see any noticeable issues. Good ball IMHO for the price.
check the q star tour. I had a bit of a shock with it. high reduction in ram off the driver and an increase of 8 mph. wasn't expecting it. launch angle with it was closer to 13.5 degrees than with other balls. tested it on a whim.
I find the outer coating of srixon balls tend a flake more than other brands even after 1 shot with an iron. Still great balls though. Yeah regard spin its there when you don't want it and not there when you do. 😉
Earlier this year one of my playing partners (WHS 14) was driving, approaching chipping and putting really well. After striping another straight down the middle of my clubs 17th (SI 1) I asked him what balls he was using; he proudly replied “Pinnacle Soft”. Now I hadn’t even heard of a pinnacle soft & at that time I wasn’t even sure pinnacle balls still existed, last time I’d heard of them it was a pinnacle gold back in the 90’s. I bought some; and now I love them. As a winter ball they are brilliant and at £1.06p each are only really beaten by the Kirkland; which are a little quick to damage. I have a WHS of 11.2 and would thoroughly recommend them.
I play the Srixon Z-Star, but I’m happy to just buy near mint used ones. Bought my son a single Q-Star divide from the pro shop a couple days ago for $7 and because he liked hitting it I then bought a dozen near mint ones for $2.90 each off a used golf balls dealer yesterday. I’ll start using the Z-Star divide once they start getting used a bit more. Way too expensive new I recon. Cheers for the video. 👍🏼
As a mid-handicap golfer who plays public courses, it depends on the conditions. If course is super soft (which is most the time if you play year round in Midwest USA) then an expensive high spin ball is a disadvantage since you get no roll on drives or long irons and low spin ball will fly straighter and sit down on a soft green (if your expectation is to back the ball up at will and a mid-handicapper, you are kidding yourself). In dry summer, the high spin ball gives you more confidence and results on the greens. So I mix them up depending on the conditions and save money and balls.
I like the chrome soft triple track and truvis. I play the q star tour around water or holes that are easy to lose a ball. The q star is a good ball. It does great for me. I can get them to stop but my shots are a high launch angle and it stops quick.
For me who only plays about 10-12 times a year now, I was playing the Top Flights. But this year I bought the Kirkland brand at Costco and really do enjoy them. Best that I have played and gave me more confidence a dollar a ball can't beat that.
Hey Mark! I play 100 or so rounds a year and am a high single digit handicap. I will never pay $50 per dozen for golf balls. I like a soft feeling golf ball so am currently using the Srixon soft feel for $21.99 US.
I’ve previously played a Callaway Chrome Soft but recently bought both Z-Star and Q-Star. I preferred the sound of the Q-Star and wasn’t convinced that I was getting as much distance with the Z-Star but having seen the stats around the green I’m going to give the Z-Star another chance 🙂
I currently play Wilson duo soft / dx3 and also like the Srixon soft feel. I’m a mid handicapper and fancied a change so currently trying Titelist Trufeel (£21 per doz) and Titelist Toursoft (£30 per doz) to see if any difference! Wish me luck! Should add my golf coach suggested the duo soft as a good ball to start with.
Been playing Z Star XV, and as I suspected I got used to the firmness in a round or two and doesn’t bother me. Seems to have a very medium spin profile, and I never feel like there’s a chance that I’m losing speed of a soft compression profile. If anything it makes me feel like I can really smash it. If there were no spin or speed consequences I could see a preference for softer feel, but as is I shop the best fit for the price. (Bought 2019 Z XV for 32.99 USD)
I used to play the Z star but as swing speed slowed I've now switch to Bridgestone e 12 contact, a 3 piece ionomer ball. No where near as good around the green but I put up with this for the sake of increased distance on mid - long shots! Agree with previous comments - Q star pricing is a bit high for a 2 piece ionomer ball? Not a huge differentiation from the Z star premium ball
Just started using the ZStar-XV, coming form the Ulti-SOft ball... what a huge difference in my game! For the better that is! Price for these was 69.00NZD... premium ball but well worth it! They do tend to scuff pretty easily though!
Choosing a ball is something I experiment with prob 2-3 times a year using a SkyTrak to verify the numbers. I have found the ball that offers me the best performance/value atm is the Snell MTB-X but it took a fair bit of testing to get there and there is a lot of overlap, ultimately it came down to the un-quantifiable "Feel'. YMMV I started from the green and worked backwards to Driver. Picked a ball that was the best matchup with the type of shots I like to play around the green and see how it performs throughout the bag. Testing the ball data feeds into everything, knowing those dry indoor numbers really helps on the course. Does it guarantee I'll hit those numbers, no never but knowing that my 7i flies 163yds 6500rpm (avg) is invaluable data to have.
Played AVX for a couple of seasons and lost quite a few. This year I decided to save money with the Wilson Duo Optix at less than 50% of the AVX price. Saved even more than anticipated because the fluo green Optix is difficult to loose. And moreover, there's no loss of feel or distance at my skill level (was off 13 but age has now got me to 21). So altogether the cheaper ball was a good move.
I game the Q-Star because of how I putt with it. I really quite enjoy the feeling of it off my putter face and didn't really notice anything different beyond that. I hit my distances. The never feels like it's holding me back. I enjoy playing higher chips so the pop doesn't bother me (again something you get used to). Definitely don't feel like I can't stop the ball on the green. I personally don't spin back often (not in my skillset - not that it doesn't happen, I just can't make it happen) but I do get the one-hop-stop with my Q-Star right into my 150 yard 9i shots. Never feel short with my driver, hitting as long on comparable shots as my buddy who games ProV's. And I feel that's exactly what these numbers in this video would suggest would happen! Interesting comparison!
just got the Q-STAR TOUR on sale at golftown for 26 Canadian a dozen ( 19.50 US ) good price great ball...end up ordering 6 dozen....cheers from Canada
I have been experimenting to find a ball that I really like. I have been playing the Callaway Chrome Soft X-LS. I have tried some other balls, but am going back to Titleist. I am trying the Tour Soft which I used to play a lot. I am 72 years old and only get to play about once a week. I may try the Tour Speed and the Pro V1x as well. I have tried the Pro V1 but don't like the way it feels.
Picked up a couple of cheaper balls to hit in the new sim. Costco’s Kirkland and maxfli tour x. Unbelievable the difference in spin between the two. 1500 rpms average on an 8 iron. Think I’m with you I’ll take the extra carry distance but I need to test in the dew next year to make sure I’m not losing too much spin.
Have been planing chomesoft for most of the year, I feel that I get better spin from around the green from a premium ball which I like as I struggle with those shots, so checking up helps me out. So I’d choose the Z star
I've tried Zero Friction balls from Amazon at £19.99 delivered for 12. Two piece ball and they do seem to really fly although don't spin as much as a more multi layered ball. For winter a fair option if you don't want to pay too much for new balls you might loose. Strangely I haven't lost one yet ! Similar to Titleist Velocity so I think a fair option for those who might be okay for a compromise on price versus better performance but at a cost.
I play prior generation brand new Z Stars. Walmart has them for $23 dollars here in Arizona. Unbelievable price for a great ball. I like Q Stars too, usually good deals on Amazon here in the US.
I have been using a seed ball, pretty good and switched from a TP5 for cost but thinking just liked TP5 better, probably in my head. Just bought some Sri on ad333 as I’m in Italy and it’s bloody freezing and they seem to work well. Tried the two TONE Q STAR, good ball too.
Great review. On the advice of someone you know well, I use Srixon Z-Star XV. I like the ball but it's longevity isn't great, scuffs a bit too easy for me. I've used Srixon for years. Really like AD333 & AD333 Tour. But will keep using Zstar XV for at least 1 more season.
I used to play Tp5x switched over to 2021 prov1. Found a callaway super soft and liked it so I bought a couple dozen because they were cheap $24 a dozen compared to $50 a dozen. Never played them side by side, would like to see those two compared. I feel the prov1 go further for me but super soft feel better and seem to check more on the greens
My very lowest scores have come using Z Stars. They also check up nice when doing a low punch shot with a wedge. Q Stars are my go to when Z’s aren’t available.
9 handicapper. Q star is the ball I'm gaming. Price is fine vs others, durability and performance are good. Nice feel off putter face. Good all rounder, without paying stupid money.
Hi mark. Yeah good vid as always. Always like a ball test but I find it interesting that no talk about how they feel off the putter 🤔. I play a pro v1 and it’s more because I love how consistent I am with distance and feel when I putt more than spin and distance. I’m a club golfer and I no I’m never going to hit a 300yard drive or an 8 iron 170 but if an can 2 or 1 putt every green I’m happy
Currently playing the Callaway Chrome Soft but just bought the Srixon Q-Star Tour to test, Q-Star Tour is $25 aus cheaper per box then the Chrome Soft.. Interesting to see a test done between Chrome Soft v Q-Star Tour
I'm playing Titleist NXT tour Lakeball. But it's get very hard to found. I plan to change for Q Star or Tour Speed. I,ve tried them last summer but my swing was'nt good enough to choose. The biggests differences are the feel and the sound. The Q-Star is very soft with a smooth sound and the Tour Speed is soft but not as much as the Q-Star and the sound is a little bit "clicky". I like the both, the price will probably make the difference.
Having played both and loved both it seems that the premium ball zstar is a luxury. I would suggest the average player would not notice any difference. One thing I did notice was the softer ball felt better on a poorer shot and improved confidence slightly
Great review I’d be interested in you doing ProV vs ProV1X.. I mention as for years I’ve played the PRo V1 and played with blades but this year swapped to ping i210’s and not sure why but have ended up swapping to ProV1X to get back performance as it definitely dropped off with the standard ball.. it was bizarre and through testing did find similar differences with other brands dependent on the make/type of clubs I was using.. 👍👍
I used the Volvik Vivid for a few years, because I like the Matte look, but when they got hard to get I tried the Taylormade Soft Response, but found they didn't seem to go as far, (swing speed 106m/hr) not sure if that is real, or imagined. Just started using the QSTAR Divide, definitely a fan.
To be honest, apart from a small difference in distance, I think the Srixon soft feel are really good value and feel good around and on the green, maybe I need to practice with a Z-Star that’s in my bag (not really, it has a few more overseas courses to visit hopefully)
I currently use balls that are 20 years old (they seem fine and yes I'm serious) and Callaway Magna (purchased earlier this year just before they changed the name to Max). My next golf balls because of the performance/price equation will be Snell. Where I play (my local course) you don't tend to lose many balls, I have only lost 2 balls in 28 holes played this year.
I enjoy your videos and club and ball reviews. I have played Q Star, W Star Tour, Z Star and Z Star XV. All good balls. Currently I play the XV as it is long and straight off the driver and I like a little higher ball flight as it helps me stop it on the green with irons. I like the yellow, The Q Star is a good ball and about $19 per dozen cheaper in US. Still, after trying the PRO V1 and PRO V1x, I prefer the Srixon Z Star CV…
Fascinating! Especially the spin drop with mid irons. Please do the same test with ProV1 and Prov1x. Like to see that comparison! There was not a good ball when I started playing, that had any durability. If you wanted spin; Balata. Thin shots could destroy them in one shot! Ball choice now is the performance with half/wedge shots. Who is the Pro that plays the least spinning ball because he generates too much spin!?
What golf ball do you play?
I used to play the AD333 Tour but as they are discontinued I'm not sure Wha I'm gonna play next season. I've got 1 box left before I have to decide on a new ball. I am contemplating the Bridgestone E12 contact, would love to see you test them

Bridgestone tour B-X
Bridgestone XS is the current favorite
I think we pay too much for everything golf related. Way too much
Agree. I only buy used clubs (2nd swing or Vans golf shop). It helps.
Also playing cheaper municipal courses fits the bill.

That's what I played years ago until I stopped losing balls.

I play pro1x but have even experimented with other balls. I’d like to see this test with prov1(x) and tour b x(s)
This exactly. If I'm buying a 2 piece golf ball is the $15 a dozen wilson ultra any worse than this ball for $28?
But when you can pick up the double dozen of these for $31???
Snell MTB Black…love the ball, great price and easier to identify than one of the countless ProVs in the rough!
Like most other golfers, I've been guilty of hitting a ball not mine but the same brand. I've never done that with a Snell.
I switched from Pro V1 to Q Star and get better wedge spin with the PQ Star with similar driver distances. I like the red and yellow Divide version as they are easy to find in the rough and easy to tell how well they are spinning.
I’ve been having lots of fun with Q-Star Tour Divide. Make me happy to see them flying. 😂
Played all summer with the Q-Star Tour. Just bought a bunch of Z-Stars when they went on sale. Can't wait to try them out.
The Q Star developed straight line cuts on the cover quickly after starting to use them when they were brand new.
I have 3 dozen Q-Stars as I am a higher handicap/ beginner but want to start understanding the characteristics of a more premium ball as my game is progressing quite well. Great review Mark, I play the Q Star Tour which I think gives a great blend of the quality of the Z star and value of the Q Star.
Best video you’ve done in ages!!!! Keep reviews like this!! And get two more friends for course vlogs!!!
Hi Mark. Great review that removes some myths around golf balls. I have two ball review requests for you. 1. ProV1X vs Vice Pro Plus. 2. ProV1X vs. Snell MTB.
Nice video Mark.
I'd like to see you do something similar across the mid to low end of the Srixon line up too.
Started the year playing Titleist TruFeel, but finished playing AVX. I'm a high handicap , senior golfer.

playing and loving vice pro. could you pls test the vice ball range?

Q star is same ball as AD333 just a different box.
Q star in UsA AD333 in UK
Nice job Mark. Would like to see Z star vs Z star XV. I know you chose Z star for that lower mid iron spin, but would be great to quantify how much more spin XV offers. The only way to conduct product testing is by robotics. There are too many variables in the human swing.

I've still got some AD333 Tours and Callaway Chrome Soft which I use for winter fodder. I also recently bought some Vice Pro Plus and was impressed with them but I have just got myself a supply of Pro V1x which seems to give me a better ball flight with the driver.
found a callaway ERC soft on the course... it was a great fill... and not a ball i would normally buy.
Excellent test Mark! I think it would be interesting to compare the Srixon Q-Star Tour against the Z-Star
check the q star tour. I had a bit of a shock with it. high reduction in ram off the driver and an increase of 8 mph. wasn't expecting it. launch angle with it was closer to 13.5 degrees than with other balls. tested it on a whim.
Would love to see you test pinnacle softs. $20 for 15
I play off 6 and use them. Love them and never seen a test anywhere on them.
I just switched to the Titleist AVX in order to lower launch and spin of my irons. Only played one full round so far and all is well.
It is surprising MC doesn’t have more subscribers, the content is extremely good in the channel.
You hit the nail on the head there, same test with titleist and bridgestone would be class. Keep up the good work
I play Qstar tour. Best of both worlds. Soft feel and stopping power
Id like to see a video on how much damage a ball can have and still perform... how many cart path/ tree attack before nmbrs actually start to change
I played one last night and I felt like I had an extra 3-5 yards on a TP5
I currently play Wilson duo soft / dx3 and also like the Srixon soft feel. I’m a mid handicapper and fancied a change so currently trying Titelist Trufeel (£21 per doz) and Titelist Toursoft (£30 per doz) to see if any difference! Wish me luck!
Should add my golf coach suggested the duo soft as a good ball to start with.
Nice one Mark. I play TP5 but am equally comfortable playing less expensive Callaway supersofts in the Winter when I'm more likely to lose balls.
@Mark Crossfield, please do graded lake balls v their new counterpart, ebay is full of them, grades pearl, A and B pro v1 v new ones please!
I’ve been using the Q star tour all season. It’s been a good ball for me!
I use Titleist tour soft ball at the moment before that it was their NXT Tour ball along with Sirixon AD333 ball
I’ve started to play the inesis. A dozen for £28 and they play very well in my opinion
or the distance for £6 a doz ! for winter golf
The cheap ones have a brick like sound on contact
@@grimacemcdonald1 I’ve not played the cheap ones. I think any ball under £25 are balls to stay well clear of
@@grimacemcdonald1 roll the rock !!
Just started using the ZStar-XV, coming form the Ulti-SOft ball... what a huge difference in my game! For the better that is! Price for these was 69.00NZD... premium ball but well worth it! They do tend to scuff pretty easily though!
I play any of the Srixon balls. I like them all. Currently playing the AD333 but have had some good games with the Snell black.
YMMV
I started from the green and worked backwards to Driver.
PROV1 autumn and spring. PROV1X when it gets really firm in summer in UK. Left dash PROV1X in winter
I currently use the q star tour, great ball at a good price and does everything I need it too 👍
Me too
Played AVX for a couple of seasons and lost quite a few.
Playing Titleist AVX just find i get lower spin on irons/driver and love putting with it !
I play the Maxfli Tour. But I would love to see you do a comparison between the Q-Star and the Maxfli Tour.
I really would like to also see club head speed in the data. This would be something all of us can relate to our swing.
Maybe a test between the Callaway Chrome Soft LS and the regular Chrome Soft? Thanks Mark
I have some AD333s for social winter golf. I've been using pro v1s in my winter league matches though...
I’ve used the Q Star Tour and liked it. Would enjoy seeing you test a Titleist ProV 1 against a Taylor Made TP5.
Mark ,great test, could you please put the titleist true feel up against the pro v1
Yes! Now let me watch and see what Mark has to day!!!
I'd like to see a test with "refinished" balls versus the new OEM balls. Perhaps the Pro-V1, TP5, AD333/Q-Star, and the Tour B X or B XS.
