- The Royal Air Force flew one of their fifth generation F-35B Lightning 2 from RAF Marham to the Royal International Air Tattoo in RAF Fairford perform the latest Role Demonstration of the aircraft. Enjoy the high speed passes and the insanely loud hovering down the crowd line
I think we all love the noise of fast jets, but when it went into hover mode when we were there on the sunday, the noise was on another level! I still have a touch of tinnitus!
Great video work as always, and was great to look back! Thank you! 👍
I thought the F4 Phantom was loud until I saw this thing hover. lol
Thans so much Dafydd! This makes me miss the Harrier - I shall go and look at some harrier footage after this haha. What a beautiful craft, awesome sound, perfectly captured. All the very best x
Thanks Anthony. There was also a Spanish harrier displaying there. I may put that footage up in a day or two
Beautiful aircraft! Such maneuverability! Silky smooth pilot!
When we look back at the Harrier, it is truly remarkable what simplicity in engineering can accomplish.
Wonderful sound ❤
The sound of the F-35B is music to my ears. This video captures the essence of why we love air shows. Great job, Dafydd! 🔊❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for watching 👍
I just ordered a dozen of these but I was told they're back ordered. Dang it👍
The F35 isn’t my favourite jet, but its getting there. Great video.
I love the F-35 performance
I could get to like it...............!!
1:17 Didn't realize before but you can hear the "whump" from the rush of air while it slides!
Great video 🫡
Thanks for the visit
Inline engines for hovering purposes will always make me wince waiting for the mishap...
Incredible 😊
5:38 It still looks like a fat sparrow in a Buzz Lightyear costume to my critical eye but I'm glad they are working the kinks out of the designs at long last. I grew to love the F-18 Hornet after an initial impression that they were underwhelming. Perhaps the F-35s will still win me over once put to all the rigours of actual combat engagements. Thanks for sharing your videos.
Thanks for watching 👍
Already been in several combat engagements so far between the US and Israel
@@forzaelite1248 Please note the "put to all the rigours of ..." portion of my remarks.
@@puirYorick AA, AG, stealth strike, SEAD, EW, area denial from cruise missiles/drones, I think that's the whole rundown unless I'm forgetting smth but it's been pretty extensively used so far
@@forzaelite1248 That still reads like a lot of box-ticking. I hope the cumulative data looks good after ten or fifteen years of heavy use in everyone's inventory. My tax dollars are paying for them so i sincerely hope they do well.
I think people don't get this airplane right. F-35 is more of a missile platform than a fighter jet. With her stealth capabilities she approaches the target, gets near as much as possible and bam! Locks on target, shoots the missile and goes home nice and clean!
The hatch aft of the pilot..?
Ever heard of the term lift-fan system on the F35B?
They do look a sight in the hover, all them doors and three bearing nozzle hanging out. The Harrier a far more elegant solution I would respectfully suggest. Thanks Dafydd, I take you had ear defenders 😊
Thanks Charles, I’ve never worn ear defenders as I like the raw sound. Might regret is one day 🤠👍
Who was the pilot of this plane?
The Harrier could do that 60 years ago .
Sure a Harrier could hover, and make nice turns, but this is a small leap forward lol.
Actaully the harrier couldn't. The F-35 can take off completely vertically at more than twice the weight the harrier could, carrying a significantly greater payload and does all of it while still being a supersonic stealth jet capable of data link and all the other borderline tech voodoo the F-35 is capable off . That and given the on bored computers basically any idiot that can fly can hover and control the F-34B doing this. Hovering the harrier was extremely difficult and in order to accommodate that ability in the airframe it was limited to low altitude, subsonic speeds and carrying a relatively limited payload.
The harrier is a genuine marvel of British engineering, The F-35B is a piece of technowizardry and is arguable the most advanced fighter jet ever built and can do things with east that the first jump jet could even attempt
the Harrier was aka the "widow maker" for a reason ☠️
3 key performance features in a single airframe which no othern type in the world before, in production nor on the drawing board is matching the F35B:
1) V/STOL
2) Supersonic
3) Stealth/Low Observability
The Harrier e.g. managed only 1) which is the only aspect easy for air show spectators to see and then conclude Harrier = F35B
