Heck, I'm 70 and I've seen others on here who said they were 60 and I read comments on here from listeners your age. (Younger kids don't make the effort to comment.) I mean we can hear these songs from many sources online or in our years of collections at home. Part of the joy on your channel is watching your joy when you discover this music. @@pvank1799 I knew it wasn't. I also never cared. People say things in songs all the time that someone else said before. I don't think it's a big deal. I think when someone uses something someone else said in their own art it's just that - their art.
      I also don't know why more than one or two people are making kind of a deal about it. I mean, Bee Gees wrote a song called 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' and I don't think they attributed that to the (very famous) person who said it first, and I sure never saw anyone make a big deal out of it, or even mention it actually. I just don't get this with this particular line of this song.

      Yep. In fact most of the best solo songs from Harrison, Lennon and McCartney were originally worked on by the band in the year before they broke up. Which makes you wonder what an incredible next album they might have made. Considering that Harrison and Starr worked on a lot of the songs when Lennon did them solo, as well as McCartney at least a few times, we ALMOST Know what they would have sounded like if they'd been done with the full band, but - it's just hard to know what the finished, full-band versions would have been like.

    Gimme Some Truth" (originally spelled "Give Me Some Truth") is a protest song written and performed by John Lennon. It was first released on his 1971 album Imagine. "Gimme Some Truth" contains various political references emerging from the time it was written, during the latter years of the Vietnam War. Co-produced by Phil Spector, the recording includes a slide guitar solo played by George Harrison, Lennon's former bandmate in the Beatles.

    Man, these vids are kinda amazing to watch. It took me quite a few years to travel through this Beatles /John Lennon thing and yeah, it's quite a profound journey in lots of ways. For me it started in 1981, when my teenage years started - shortly after he died - and I didn't really get to the end for another 10 years. You're doing it in under a year... honestly, as silly as I might sound here... go easy... I think you've already realised, they weren't messing about and they could touch people like very few artists in their genre ever managed to do. The artwork of the 3 combined Anthology albums is a painting called 'Trojan Horse' - it's a very appropriate title. I wouldn't change any of it for the world but lots of people will agree that The Beatles journey can sometimes be more that just loving a really, really good band.

    Espero puedas traducir: ...

    There's a reason Liverpool was at the center. It was a seaport and sailors brought back lots of 45s from America with music that wasn't broadcast on the BBC. Liverpool was also a poor town after the WAR. Heck all England was. As George Harrison said, "we'd listen to whatever record was around. You couldn't afford much. Heck we couldn't afford a cup of sugar let alone a rock n roll record.

    I feel that the song "Gimme Some Truth" hits the nail on the head when it comes to describing the two-faced, cliquey, sycophantic dynamics in most of the social and walking groups I am currently or have been part of. It appears to me that specific organizers, co-organizers, walk leaders, and members of these groups solely exhibit a focus on their inner circle, disregarding individuals in need of additional support. It's so disheartening to see unfair favouritism play out, especially for those who could benefit from more inclusivity and real friends to hang out with.

      Paul didn't even remember he contributed to it (one 3-word line).
      'I was meeting with Paul [McCartney] and I said to him, “You know that John Lennon song ‘Gimme Some Truth’?”. He says, “Uh, the one on the Imagine album? Yeah, I know that one”. “Did you know that you actually co-wrote that with John?” He says, “What are you talking about?”
      I showed him this footage from the Get Back sessions where Paul and John are working on ‘Gimme Some Truth’. Paul’s come up with that ‘money for rope’ thing which John loves. Paul looked at me and said, ‘I have no memory of that. I had no idea I was involved with that song’.
      Then he says, “It’s a great song. I’ve always loved that song so if I get some credit for it, great”.' - Peter Jackson

    Yes, This was a favorite song of John's for McCartney. It's a beautiful melody and lullaby. The only criticism is John's failure to give credit in the liner notes to his use of the quote "life is what happens to you while your busy making other plans" to its author Allen Saunders' 1957 quote. And Gimme Some Truth, wow you don't want to make John angry as Nixon did (at Elvis' request) trying to have him kicked out of the country.

    • @lauraallen55
      @lauraallen55 6 месяцев назад +2

      John probably didn't know where the saying came from, or didn't remember. I don't always remember those things either. The thing is that you and I have the luxury to go look these things up, and John didn't. What could he do? Not use it because someone else said it first, or use it and put in the liner notes that he read that or heard it somewhere and doesn't remember? Either scenario would be bad lol!
