Thank you so much for this! I had a leaking cover gasket and after spending the entire price of my used car on repairs within the first month of having it, I was sick of paying to go to the mechanic and decided to try fixing this myself. I know nothing about cars other than the absolute bare minimum, and needless to say I was pretty afraid of touching anything under the hood. But I felt confident enough after watching this through twice, and spent $75 on tools and a new gasket combined (far cheaper than $200+ for the mechanic). I asked for supervision from my coworker's dad, and we managed to get it replaced. :) My very first time fixing anything on a car! I was pretty scared shitless when the car stalled a bit while starting it back up at the end, but luckily it came through. It did take us a bit longer than it should have since we got stuck on two things, so here's my advice to anyone else who wants to try this but is very, very new to car stuff:
- Make sure to use deep sockets for the bolts on the valve cover. We had to stop and buy some halfway through getting it off because I only bought normal sockets.
- Check very carefully and make sure you unscrew ALL the bolts along the perimeter of the valve cover. We kept missing bolts that were hidden under the surrounding wires.
- And lastly, believe in yourself! If someone like me can manage to do this, anyone can. :D
Thank you for your detailed video. My husband and I were able to replace the gasket for the first time today 😁 we're a single-income family, so it really saved us a lot of money.
Thanks I’m glad I was able to help.
You're a lifesaver. Beats forking out $500 to replace it at the dealership. Subscribed!
Thanks for the comment and glad I was able to help.
Same here man
Great video.
The 3 most common items I see on this vehicle.
1. Valve cover gaskets
2. Tensioner pulley bearing
3. Motor mounts
Agree, also the door handles break often.
@@dannydoitall3312the door handles are the worse part 😂😂😂. other than that this car is practically bulletproof. 250k in mine and runs mint
This is so detailed and at a nice pace! I'm replacing my head gasket on my 08 Fusion and DEFINITELY was not looking to spend $200+ on a chain mechanic
Thank you
Outstanding superior explanation & no steps missed detailed video demonstration!!!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks!
Superior quality video
This is an AWESOME tutorial! I'm planning on getting mine replaced tomorrow and this is exactly the detail that I needed! The Haynes Manual is not so detailed! Awesome job! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you
Excellent help. My new year's day challenge to save my son 500+ dollars. I'm an accountant so just played and paused through each step. My daughter's boyfriend helped so the extra set of hands sped it up.
Awesome I’m glad I was able to help.
Just found this after buying my daughter an 09 Fusion that needed a gasket replaced. Great tutorial, gave me all the info I needed except 1 vital detail. You are gonna need an 8mm DEEPWELL socket for the cover bolts around the outside. All but 2 you can reach with a regular wrench... off to the tool store I go with a torn apart engine.
Thank you for creating this detailed instructional video! This step by step tutorial worked out very well for me with no mistakes and no headaches! I also saved some cash and learned a few things by doing it myself. Well done!
Thank you
Came to give a thumbs up even though I did this about 2 years ago. Same exact experience finding the leak lol
I thought it was a cheap truck next to me, but the following day, at the same light I noticed it and found it when I got home. Was afraid at first that it was a more serious issue, but just the gasket. Most recent repair was the serpentine belt, which was due for replacement. Made it to about 106k miles before it failed.
Thanks.
Man, I wish this video was out in March 2020. Could have saved me some $$$ Great work, thank you for posting this.
Thanks
Great job, thank you. 268k 0n the 09 fusion. Squeaking out another 30k, I hope.
Followed this video and replaced the gaskets myself and it worked great solved the problem and saved me money so thank you so much for these video's.
Thanks I’m glad I was able to help.
Great video - I love how you do not assume anything of what we may or may not know. I feel I could take this on job on because of your video.
Thanks.
Just watched your video step for step. It was my first time installing a valve cover gasket. Runs fantastic!!Thank you for the video.
Awesome thanks Matt
This was a great explained video much appreciated.I ordered a brand new 2011 Ford Fusion valve cover and pcv sensor and a vvt solenoid sensor that I will replacing shortly. Thanks you again for your time and patience to your viewers...
Thank you
Your a life saver man this video is well detailed and makes it very simple anybody can do lt. Very appreciated
Thanks Kody
Just replaced on a 08 mercury milan. Tutorial was accurate and easy to follow
great video. saved some money doing myself. thanks. I was expecting you would replace your spark plugs as well since the oil travels down through them.
Perfect video! I have a 2.3L 2009 Ford Fusion with exactly the same issue! This helped me understand what to expect. Thank you!
I am gonna use this video to help me replace my gfs ford fusion 2007 valve cover gasket. I appreciate your detailed explanation!
Edit: I forgot to say that it is good you are used to using gloves when working on cars. I would not wear gloves before cause I learned to work on cars with my dad who is very old school and would not use them, but I for sure use them now!
Lol safety didn’t seem to be as much of a priority as it is today. I used to be the same way because I also learned from old school mechanics. Good luck!
@@dannydoitall3312 for sure lol, and thanks for the video, I just followed your steps and replaced the valve cover gasket!
Thx for the video.... Replaced mine in couple hours .... 2007 Fusion..... easy.... peasy.....
Awesome I’m glad it helped.
Great narration! Explained very clear and concise!
Thanks
Hi Danny. GREAT video and very comprehensive explanation!
They are great cars and last is they are taken care of. We have a couple of them in our family. My 2006 SEL has about 240,000 and still runs great. The engine and transmission in these cars are solid. Some fusions get a slightly hard shift between 1st and 2nd gear. Some things that don’t last in these cars are the inside door handles, the display on the radio. The blower motor plug, and or the connector to the blower motor resistor and resistor. The engine thermostats fail but not often and they will stay open and car will run cooler than normal. Also the motor mounts but that also depends on how hard the car is driven. The trunk struts also by this age are worn out. These are the things I remember off the top of my head and i thinks that’s most of them. Good Luck.
Good job. I have to do one on a 2010 Fusion this weekend. Should be a breeze, thanks!
Your welcome. Good luck!
I love love love your video, well guided through and straight to the point, hope to get more videos from you
Thank you
Dan the Man! Great video. Going to do my kids 09 Fusion with 125K, they hate that i keep fixing this thing! No new car for them.
Awesome, these cars last a long time. My 06 is around 245,000 and use it daily without any issues.
Thank you for the video bro it was SOOOOO HELPFUL 🙏🏽👏🏽
Thanks
I’d like to say thank you 🙏 so much, I changed my gasket cover today, I put a new one on my vehicle. All Glory be to God in Jesus Holly name and a big Thank You to you. Do a Video on a ford fusion 2011 brake change. Take care,
@Kim Jordan your welcome and thank you.
Thanks. Awesome detailed easy to understand video!
Thank you
This video really helped a lot! Thanks!
Thanks
Man, Now I need to get an impact wrench.
Excellent how to video. Thanks!
You're welcome!
Now I gotta buy the part
Inch pounds? Great video, and I looked up inch pounds😊
Great video bro
I have a leak out of the sensor on top of the motor, near the oil fill cap. Would I need to replace that, or just a gasket?
Thank you.
Do you have to drain oil to replace the valve gasket and oil sensor
Doing. A few should have taught you to use high temp gsk sealer on the cover side in the grove .
Very Good video
Thank you
Awesome detailed video with close for clip removals for newbie like me! whats this sensor name at time 3:31 and 5:04 ? if someone enlighten me, please. As i want to replace them while at it, thankyou.
Excellent video. Just one quiestion Torque force is 89lbs/ft or 89 lbs/inch?
89 inch lbs. Thank you
Quick question, should you wait for the RTV to cure for 24 hrs before running engine or will it leak if you don't let it cure? Otherwise, fantastic job describing procedure.
I think you’re supposed to wait unless you get quick curing rtv. I didn’t know this when I did mine a few years ago and I’m assuming that’s where my current oil leak comes from
Thanks 🙏🏼
The plastic clips on the air hose at 4:20 are a nightmare for me. That back one is stuck 😢
Very very good video
Thank you
Yuo have good información man thanks god bless
Thank you god bless
Thanks for the nice video. Very nicely done. I will be subscribing to your channel thank you.
Thank you.
Good video. Thanks for sharing. Though it looks like you pulled a little more than oil out of those cylinders with that baster. Was this car flooded or something?
Thanks. Engine had been washed recently and some water had made its way down into the spark plug wells.
is that air duct thats over your engine supposed to be on all Fusions? Mines a 2012 that i bought used, and it does not have that. should it?
I think they stopped putting the air duct for the alternator after the 2010 models.
Ireplaced the same gasket cover like a year ago. There is oil inside the cylinders in the middle. Im getting a genuine gasket from the dealership . should I use some rtv to make it stronger?
Should only have to place the rtv where timing chain cover connects to engine block. Just make sure that you torque the screws in the correct sequence and amount.
Hey nice video i have a question, i changed it followed everything you did but now my temperature gauge not reading anymore?
Any suggestions why?
Not sure if you resolved this already but make sure to check the coolant temp sensor plug which is to the right of the valve cover gasket when you are looking the the engine from the front of the car. Make sure that it is fully plugged in and not broken. Is the check engine light on?
Can I use brake clean on a shop towel to clean up before I put the gasket on?
Yeah and replace any plastic or rubber contaminated by the oil
Thank for you help!
Your welcome
That pesky, head temperature sensor plug gave me a time. Couldn’t get it to click back in. Must of broke the clip. I used a bit of vinyl adhesive on the edges. Hope that works
Why do you not have an egr in your car? I don’t see it where it should be
Do I need to replace the coils has well or I can re put them on??????
Put the same coils back on. Good luck.
This is for a four cylinder engine? Mine is a six cylinder though. It should be the same?
Yes this is for four cylinder. The six will have two valve covers and the engine is a different design.
Is that a common problem with that motor my daughter is looking for a cars and found one and it's leaking in the same place just concerned if that's a problem
Yes this is a common issue on these cars. My family has three of these fusions and all of them have had to be replaced.
Please tell me where to put the pvc valve. I can’t find information on it
It goes from the back of the valve cover to the air intake tubing right before the throttle body. I hope this helps good luck!
Where is the pcv valve on this engine
Got that Hot oily smell and alittle smoke in my 08 Fusion, also acting like it's got a slight miss, could valve cover Gasket be the cause ?
Could be, they will leak oil into the spark plugs
@@therealbigfoot3076 appreciate it, got it taken care of and the miss is gone, appreciate the response
why did you put the dab of RTV in those 2 spots?
Where the timing chain cover and the engine block mate is a gap. It comes with RTV from the factory on those two spots to stop leaks. So if you decide to change the gaskets make sure to reapply RTV to those two spots.
100% correct
Was your car low on oil ?
The oil level was ok but i check it on a weekly basis and keep it at the right level.
Danny, if you are so concerned about leaks, you really should have a torque wrench and tighten those bolts attaching, to specs.I would think that would be appropriate.
Whatever inch pounds the book reads.
I agree the bolts should be torqued down to the proper specs. Unfortunately I did not have a torque wrench with me when I replacing this valve cover gasket. Torque should be about 7 ft-lbs.
Would this video apply to a 2011 fusion 2.5l?
Not 100% sure but I believe that that the engines are similar and this video should be able to help with your 2.5l. Good Luck
@@dannydoitall3312 awesome! thanks for the reply :) also great video it was probably one of the best easy to follow and understand how to vids I’ve ever watched. Thanks again
@@dannydoitall3312 oh yeah just to let you know there is absolutely no difference between your fusion and my 2011 in so far as doing the valve cover gaskets. Every single thing that you did applied exactly to my 2.5L
Thanks for letting me know.
I have a 2008 mercury milan 2.3l and it was leaking oil from where yours was and also into where the spark plugs go. I torqued the right bolt by the coil pack by 89ft lbs instead of inch lbs and snapped the bolt head off. I was lucky enough to take the valve cover back off and use a pair of vise grips to twist the rest of the bolt out of the head. But because of the way the cover is designed i needed a whole new cover. I went to my local pull a part and found a replacement. Brought it home and decided to spray the entire thing with wd40 engine degreaser foam and then rinse off with the water hose. Because the replacement was showing coolant leakage on the inner gaskets. But now i still have some water on the inside of the cover in the plastic cover i cant access. Not excessive amounts of water but its air drying. Got a new fel pro gasket set im just afraid of water inside this cover not dried before i put it back on. What should i do? How long should i wait? This video has helped me so far thank you!
No gasket sealant?
It’s only needed where the timing chain cover meets the engine.
Should definitely clean everything BEFORE removing the plugs and coils.
The only thing I found wrong with this guy was that he removed the plugs to the coil pack 1, 2, 3, 4 which is correct and then reconnected them WRONG. It should be 4, 3, 2, 1 and NOT 1, 2, 3,4 like he did.....since he did not disconnect the negative on the battery. Other than that he was flawless....
Thanks
👍
Thanks
Okay, I just spend 5 hours working on this same car my cousin has. And the Valve Cover DOES NOT come off that easy!!! Might want to word that differently on future videos
Mine won't run now
I just got a fusion...and it doesn't ha e the air duct over the top lol its a 2010
If you have a salvage yard near you that’s the cheapest way to go and replace it. I have an lkq pull your part near me and their are a lot of fusions.
Why don't these mechanics in do it yourself videos START the car up after they do 'major surgery' on these cars? I want to see that they do, indeed, start up properly and run as they should. Why don't they start the cars up after their work?
Hello Nazda, I will keep that in mind for future videos and start the engines to show that they indeed are fixed and work as they should.
When you get the head gasket seals do they come with the seals around the spark plugs as well
The valve cover seal kit does include the seals around the spark plugs.
