Thanks to the internet which offers an almost endless supply of recources, technical proficiency in younger people tend to be much higher than decades ago. Just check out youtube for the amount of 10 year olds and teens that can shred like there's no tomorrow. However, technical proficiency doesn't automatically mean good musicanship.

Could I have been better with some internet lessons and seeing all them play? Sure! But I know after hours and endless days and nights of practice, I'd have never been a William Apostol or any of those dudes up their with him. I can name about five. These days, who I listen to, all their names start with Billy and end with Strings! utterly amazing.

Fundamentally, what’s difficult to overcome in BG, is the lack of drumming and time signatures associated with that. Considering such, most songs end up sounding identical. Still, they’ve got my ears and attention. Mad respect!

@@kathrynlemieux2363 very cool. I know there have been several people record it over the years but I wasn’t aware of the writers or the original band that did it. My favorite version has always been by the southern rock band The Outlaws. Their version was sang by Henry Paul. Henry went on the form the country band Blackhawk. Last I heard he’s a member of the Outlaws again and I may be wrong but I’m thinking he’s the only original member. Henry has a killer voice and sounds like nobody else. If ya haven’t heard their version, it’s definitely worth checking out

I was lucky enough to be at this show, and what a scorcher it was! The whole show is a bluegrass special on PBS now, too. I follow these boys all over the country, have seen them over 50 times and this is my FAVORITE Freeborn Man to date! Thanks for posting❤ I was too busy dancing in the pews to video anything lol

Billy Strings and Molly Tuttle ARE NOT true Real Bluegrass artists. They, by their "woke" values are a cancer that is ruining Real Bluegrass. "Woke" and Real Bluegrass DO NOT belong together. He is a different genre than Real Bluegrass. He and his ilk will destroy Bluegrass the same way country music has been destroyed. Listen to the song "Murder on Music Row."
