When the Rebirth started in the US I said to my French retailer (I was still reading in French at the time) "I hope they're going to traduce Green Lantern Rebirth at some point" and he said he had it for years already. Even him was confused! Another fun fact: the DC New 52 were branded "DC Renaissance" in France, which means "DC Rebirth"... So when the Rebirth line came out they had to keep it in English to avoid confusion between the two lines and ended up creating even more hahaha Having two different things having the same English name was really confusing for most non-english speaking people here. Even more when you now that they were publishing the Geoff Johns run AND the Rebirth at the same time....

For an Omnibus mapping, you'd need three or four. "Batman" #1-85, Annuals #1-2, and #4, Batman: Secret Files #1, Batman/Catwoman #1-12 and Special; Batman: Killing Time #1-6 (just announced!), Batman/Elmer Fudd, and a CRAP-TON of side stories from a bunch of places like Detective Comics #1000, #1027; Catwoman 80th Special, Robin 80th Special...it'd most likely be a 4 volume set.

I don't know why DC not giving King some fun characters to write about. I think he is very good at comedy. His super friends and the gift stories are hilarious as well as issue in the deluxe 5 that was drawn by Amanda Conner.
Hey Omar, these Deluxe Editions are nice. I wish I'd known about that format before I started buying the standard thin trades. I have the whole run and I'm content with it. I know I started to read it but maybe got as far as volume 2 as well as the 'Monster Men' trade. An omnibus would likely require 3 volumes perhaps? The use of matte paper began with Batman trade volume 8 which was the first black spine. Annoying. It's a run that I need to make time for, like everything else. Cheers mate.
I just got the first 2 volumes in recently, but book 3,4 and 5 are out of print now, with 6 coming out in a week. I'm so bummed. This is my favorite run on Batman and I wish they were still printing the rest of the books

You have his 85 issue run, plus annuals, specials, one-shots, the Batman/Catwoman series, and I think he's doing another Batman series for Black Label. Don't know if they'll hold out to collect the Black Label series but that is a lot of pages. I got through the Deluxe Edition volume four. I was really mad about the change in paper quality and since they weren't announcing volume five for a long time I just sold them. I want it all in the omnibus treatment too. I want the full crossover stories as well. I think they'll do it as in the Tynion Detective Omni they had all the issues for the Night Of The Monster Men crossover. Take care and peace.
I could be wrong but I think Jason's last name is pronounced "Fay-bock". Concerning the run I only hear positive or negative things, really a 50/50 split. When it comes out in 2 omni's then I'll pick it up. Thanks for the video.
The books are actually sewn binding, but its like all DC books and omnis, It´s has a big layer of glue. PD: so glad to hear there will be a book 6, being waiting for that like a mad man
At first I thought Tom King’s Batman run was just meh but I kept going because I always read Batman’s main book. Looking back at the run as a whole now though I’ve really grown to appreciate it and the long story that Tom King was trying to tell. Tom King might honestly be my favorite writer working right now
Hey Omar great video except issues 64&65 of Batman are in volume 5 of the deluxe editions. DC didn’t collect chapters 2&4 which are the Flash parts of the crossover.
While King’s run was not my favorite, I felt like it achieved higher peaks than Snyder’s run did in many ways, even if the lows were also lower. The decompressed, padded nature of the run made it feel a bit bloated, and it was painful reading this monthly. All that said, I appreciated King trying some new ideas with the character, even if I have some objections to some of the twists and characterizations contained therein. Also, if they did do omnis, I hope they include Batman and Elmer Fudd, a surprisingly great crossover.
I agree. I love the way this run flipped the script on Bruce and his trauma, emphatically stating that it is love and reaching out to others that heals you.
While I wasn’t a fan of Knightfall because it felt like a money grab just to increase sales, it did give us a villain that was as smart as Batman. It also grounded Batman showing all the damage that he was taking mentally and physically over the years fighting crime. I mean bats had been beaten, stabbed, and shot over the years. That has to take a toll on someone. The human body and mind can only endure so much.
I personally prefer deluxe editions to omnis because they are more comfortable to read and tend to have matching spines (except green arrow, yeah DC, just make the spine blue.. wtf) but since collecting DC has become a pain in the ass and they just discontinued the whole line, I sold most of my Rebirth Deluxe Editions except Detective Comics and Actions Comics, because they at least finished a whole run. So now I have a couple of rebirth deluxe which at least have great looking spines, right next to my rebirth trades, who just look horrible.. 3 different spines during the Tom King Batman run.. 🤦🏻♂️
Some REALLY good stuff in the King issues. I wasn't blown away by everything, but what was good was SOOOOOO good. Annual 2 was one of my single favorite Batman issues of all time. Seems like any time he teams with Lee Weeks is printed gold, though. When these hit omnibus format, I may have to buy them.
Really regret not picking up Book 5 early on just for completing my collection. Going on Amazon they're asking for more than the listed price and the annoying part is Book 5 contains the Knightmare's storyline which is arguable the worst part of King's run. Overall though King's time on Batman will definitely not be forgotten and even some of his storylines such as Cold Days will be considered some of the greatest Batman stories ever.
It’s ridiculous how hard to find these are. I payed 60€ for book 3 and 80€ for book 5, been looking for a whole year. Book 4 nowhere to be found, only found one on ebay for 122$…I just don’t understand why they would print so few of them when Batman it’s a character famous all around the world
Started collecting these a while back, but when I saw they started fucking with the spines and discontinuing lines I dropped off and decided to wait for the inevitable Omnibus. Easy to reprint the same oversized pages in bigger books when half the work is already done!
I started the run in single issues but then stopped cold turkey with single issues around #10, so I'm waiting a few more years for that omni I guess :P

Hello Omar, I have a doubt , when are Dark Knights Metal and Death Metal taking place with the Rebirth Batman Issues? As I understand, Batman #52 ended giving birth to Dark Knights Metal… right? But then after Metal is the Batman Rebirth Era of King and then after that Death Metal and then Future State?
I have all these plus the King /Weeks book (which is matt paper) plus Night of the monster men, and the Button, and even 'The Wedding Album' If the do reprint volumes 4+5 I hope they do it on Glossy paper and with the white spines (although they probably won't) I didn't know about the heroes' in crisis books, But have literally just bought them on Amazon, so thanks for the info Omar, and if they do print Omni's with all this in then please could they include the crossovers, or I shan't bother to double dip, I get so p'd off when they are more concerned with whether a particular writer wrote it all, I buy 'em for Batman, not who writes it. Same kinda thing happened with the Grant Morrison Omni's, half way through a story there would be issues missing 'cos Morrison didn't write them(eyeroll)

Although I don’t love the run, this reads so much better in collected format vs trying to read it in singles. Excited for book 6 to happen and hopefully people can enjoy it. :) Another great vid, my friend!
King's run on Batman is my personal favorite. I hope DC releases it as an omnibus somewhat soon considering this deluxe line ended before the run was finished.
I absolutely loved this run. Not only was it, in my opinion, an intricate deep dive into Batman's psyche, but it was also just a good time. I blazed through Deluxes Vol. 1 and 2 and sold my set in anticipation of an Omnibus. The "I Am Gotham/I Am Suicide/I Am Bane" trilogy was solid and "War of Jokes and Riddles" was great ("Night of the Monster Men" was alright). "Rooftop" is one of my favorite Batman stories of all time. It's where "Rules of Engagement" and "The Gift" came out that I started to think, "Okay..." And of course..."The Wedding" was an unnecessary misdirect.. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed everything I've read from it. King is so creative with how he tells the story, the art is gorgeous, and the way the story builds to a, admittedly, okay conclusion was great. I will definitely purchase this run in an Omnibus!!
Good: Art is great throughout and in the first issue Batman is absolute bad ass riding airplane. Bad: If you thought Batbunny was terrible ending to Snyder's New 52 run, King says hold my beer and gives us Nightmares and City of Bane. Batman was just so uncharacteristic and he was made to look so weak against Bane in the final battle. Worst thing I have ever read. Tom King simply doesn't get Batman at all.
I enjoyed volumes 1-3 even though the great tragedy that Batman feels guilty for is creating Kiteman. Batman could easily blame himself which would have been great. Then he ruined Booster Gold as if he never read any recent run of the character. Then comes the wedding. Tom King has to Tom King. He is the antonym to Geoff Johns when it comes to DC lore. A writer makes a deal with the reader. Tom King thinks breaking the deal over and over is a good thing which was why it fell flat.
It was a good run for real. I loved it. How Batman was not only "Ehi dude. I'm Batman. I can do anything, also beat the c**p out of anyone because..I'm Batman". Here, "'I'm Batman" is not a meme at least. It's something more personal. It shows how a character in comics can change. Reading this after the Snyder's lame run was very refreshing.
While I personally think Snyder's run is great (just re-read it last week), I think King's is definitely better. King added a human element to Batman. He wasn't the guy who always won or had a plan for everything. There are some bumps in the run, but King's will always be special to me
This was the worst run of Batman I've ever read. If you want a soy-boy, mommy-wife having, overly emotional, ineffective and whipped Batman, enjoy. Those who want good comics stay away.

I read Annual 2 with my wife and it was a beautiful love story. She loved it. King does some seriously incredible stuff with this run.

King's run for better or worse is a lot of things but back to basics is not one of them.
Definitely want to start buying some Batman stuff. Recommendations would be great!

I like that Tom King was fearless with Batman. There were peaks and valleys but it’s easily one of the best runs on the character in a long long time.

I've liked some of his other stuff but his Batman was pretty underwhelming.

Although I don’t love the run, this reads so much better in collected format vs trying to read it in singles. Excited for book 6 to happen and hopefully people can enjoy it. :) Another great vid, my friend!
King's run on Batman is my personal favorite. I hope DC releases it as an omnibus somewhat soon considering this deluxe line ended before the run was finished.

I absolutely loved this run. Not only was it, in my opinion, an intricate deep dive into Batman's psyche, but it was also just a good time. I blazed through Deluxes Vol. 1 and 2 and sold my set in anticipation of an Omnibus. The "I Am Gotham/I Am Suicide/I Am Bane" trilogy was solid and "War of Jokes and Riddles" was great ("Night of the Monster Men" was alright). "Rooftop" is one of my favorite Batman stories of all time. It's where "Rules of Engagement" and "The Gift" came out that I started to think, "Okay..." And of course..."The Wedding" was an unnecessary misdirect.. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed everything I've read from it. King is so creative with how he tells the story, the art is gorgeous, and the way the story builds to a, admittedly, okay conclusion was great. I will definitely purchase this run in an Omnibus!!

Loved the artists in this run particularly Janin and Mann. The stories are a lot of hits and probably two hits.

Good: Art is great throughout and in the first issue Batman is absolute bad ass riding airplane.
Bad: If you thought Batbunny was terrible ending to Snyder's New 52 run, King says hold my beer and gives us Nightmares and City of Bane. Batman was just so uncharacteristic and he was made to look so weak against Bane in the final battle. Worst thing I have ever read.
Tom King simply doesn't get Batman at all.
I enjoyed volumes 1-3 even though the great tragedy that Batman feels guilty for is creating Kiteman. Batman could easily blame himself which would have been great. Then he ruined Booster Gold as if he never read any recent run of the character. Then comes the wedding. Tom King has to Tom King. He is the antonym to Geoff Johns when it comes to DC lore. A writer makes a deal with the reader. Tom King thinks breaking the deal over and over is a good thing which was why it fell flat.

It was a good run for real. I loved it. How Batman was not only "Ehi dude. I'm Batman. I can do anything, also beat the c**p out of anyone because..I'm Batman". Here, "'I'm Batman" is not a meme at least. It's something more personal. It shows how a character in comics can change. Reading this after the Snyder's lame run was very refreshing.
While I personally think Snyder's run is great (just re-read it last week), I think King's is definitely better. King added a human element to Batman. He wasn't the guy who always won or had a plan for everything. There are some bumps in the run, but King's will always be special to me

This was the worst run of Batman I've ever read. If you want a soy-boy, mommy-wife having, overly emotional, ineffective and whipped Batman, enjoy.
Those who want good comics stay away.

Morrison is not even close. I can think of like 5 off the top of my head that are better then Morrisons jumbled mess.
