- After 30 years of collecting comic books I have finally built the storage system of my dreams. I still have some minor cosmetic work to do, but I'd say the whole thing is about 95% complete.
...I periodically stop and re-watch this like is a fuggin movie! 😍 Thank you!!!!!
Haha you, me both. It's just an awesome design. Such a logical idea and easy to make. Just takes times.
a comic collector's dream come true-thanks for posting
Now that's how you store your comics with style! Looks great!
Not a comic book collector but even I think this is awesome. I got bounced here after searching wood working sites and as I wood worker I can really appreciate the thought and detail that went into the construction of this cabinet. 2 big thumbs up.
This is so dope. I will build something like this one day.
Amazing to see this. Love how organized it is!
Love this way of storage. I was thinking wouldn't it be great it it was double-sided? Then, I could store my comics on one side and my stilettos on the other side. Now, that's a dream come true! Great work by you and your father. Thanks for sharing.
comics AND stilettos? #inluv
Dang! Cool shelf closet you made for your Comic Books. Good work Chris,I toast a
Beer,Whiskey and Wine on good work you did on the shelf you made. Peace.
A thing of beauty. Well done, sir.
This is awesome.
you, sir, are legitimately my idol. i just started collecting comics about a year ago and i cant say ive seen a better way to display comics. i hope i have a collection as sweet as yours one day
Well, it's been ten years. How's the collection?
Dang, I'd buy that house just for that cabinet! Awesome job and great inspiration!
You are a genius my friend
Best I've seen so far. Great work! Inspiring!
Nice job! I wish my dad and I were handy like that! Thanks for sharing.
Amazing craftsmanship.
My LCS has had these type of setups since the mid 90s. I guess they were just ahead of the game.
Great job!
This is amazing. Great work. I'm very impressed.
Once that fills up, go through them for the books that are worthless or you aren't interested in keeping, and give them away or sell them off. That's something I recently did, it's more fun than it sounds.
That is pure amazing!
wow!..m also a collector & one day wish to make a cabinet like u..really great stuff..
So awesome!
Well done buddy great job really looks nice..
So dope! looks awesome! Really well done. I am excited once we buy a home to create my own man cave :)
Great Work. Awesome way to store the comic books. My local shop do the same, but it's dusty haha
That is pretty awesome
Very nice looking for storage but I am confused... You stated these comfortably hold 150 comics per drawer... then at 2:15 runtime in the video, you state you have north of 6000 comics in this already with nearly a whole row yet to be filled... BUT if you do the math 35 drawers x 150 comics... your max fill would be 5250 comics... and if you went at your "stress test" amount of 200 you would be able to store 7000 comics. Since your drawers don't seem to have 200 in them... how can you have north of 6000 comics and still have nearly an entire row empty?
The one thing I would recommend is changing out all of your light bulbs to LED's that emit zero UV light. Certain incandescent and CFL bulbs emit UV which would do harm against the books against the plexiglass. Also, make sure you have your humidity controlled to a consistent level in this room. Especially since you stated the furnace room is just behind the storage...
Scotty D I think he meant that he didn’t finish putting the books in the shelf yet. 👍🏻
Wow this is really great! Wish I had something similar, I'm approaching a 7,000 comic collection and would love to do something like this.
Geezes that is a sweet set up! Truely a shame you don't have and design plans or had video taped the building process. You have storage and a decoration! Perfect!! I am green with envy!!
Hallo Chris, and thank you for making this video.
Your cabinet is one of the finest comic book storage solutions I have ever seen.
I myself have tried to make something similar, only not as good as yours.
See here: My comic book cabinet
But it functions to my liking.
Thanks again for giving me and others the inspiration to make our collections shine.
That is just beautiful. Perfect!
3/4 inch thick for the towers, 5/8 inch thick for the boxes. The boxes were also a special kind of smooth plywood which was a little pricier but a necessity to prevent any splinters or rough wood damaging the comics.
Great job looks very nice.
I was looking for ways to store my comparable size collection and just love your setup. Can I ask you how much did it cost to build?
this is awesome man, in the classical awe inspiring meaning. I hope someday I can make something like this.
Amazing piece of art
Amazing! This is what I was looking for. Thumbs up, man!
That is incredible
This is amazing. Now to go find space in my house to convert...
Possible 1750lbs ....dude that almost a ton!
Great work.
I would distribute the weight better and start from the bottom with the comics and go up.Another thing is the comics in the front are going to be exposed to light thru the plexiglassjust a couple of thoughts. Great job, wish I would have thought of something like this back when I was collecting. Thanks for sharing.
I completely agree, heavier slides would have been better but they weren't necessary. And since I would have had to buy 70 sets of slides I compromised on these ones.
Love this
I would kill for those blue prints !
very, very nice
Great job, has that WOW factor
We have over 14,000 comics and a whole room devoted to them. I'd love this against one of the walls so that the room can have other uses.
Dax I've just finished my comics room - the video isn't long but hopefully you'll appreciate it
That's very cool!
+Dax Carver cheers
We will probably do something similar. We've over 17,000 now.
+Dax Carver wow I'm nowhere near but I love seeing what's in the drawers
Is there a way you can give a quick how-to on building it? I would really like to learn so I can build my own. Much appreciated.
This video inspired me a lot so I built my own version of his cabinet. Here are my specs:
www.courthate.de/comicdrawer.jpg
@@chriss2507 where do you grab the drawers?
@@lazztantalo9885 You can easily grab them by the sides.
Way to go. Great Storage unit
Very Cool!
All the individual cabinets are resting on a raised floor within the space. There are three separate cabinets and they can be popped out pretty easily if they have too.
It looks amazing 👍
should market that idea
awesome and interesting storage/display
Would have been nice to see a video of how you built it...nice work!
that is awesome set up man
That is beautiful!!
nice,I would need three more like you got to handle what i got now. Really nice.
i just need one for me for now joe...lol i love it to
I want it so bad!
Love this solution. I have something similar in mind...but not so tall and more enclosed like a file cabinet. Thanks for the info on weight, that is something i have wondered about. Do you have any dimension info? Did you build them just to fit modern/bronze comics, or did you take silver/gold into consideration? Can you take the drawers completely out? Thanks again for shareing!
so cool. i'm always afraid to wear out the older comics, like i'll need surgical gloves and masks to protect them or something. haha
Cool thanks for sharing this man its a tight idea! one day I hope to build something similar. If I do, ill send you a vid of it!
"Nuff Said" nice setup
This is really nice. What kind of sliders do you use? are they "over-extension" sliders or just regular "full extension"? if they are full, is it hard to access the comics at the back?
Hey Chris, love the shelf. What did you fill in the remaining spaces ?
Are the slides just rollers at the from and back of the drawer with a slide the full length of the storage cabinet? Can't really see how they are fixed in the video
Nice work, very creative, looks great.
Looks really great! Since it's been a couple of years now I was wondering if you've experienced any issues due to the amount of weight on the drawers? Any sagging? How are the rails holding up? Anything that you would have done differently now that you've lived with it for a while? Thank, and again, great work!
Very nice. I have been thinking about doing this for quite some time as well. Do you find it hard to browse the comics on the upper levels? Also, what thickness of plywood did you use?
My biggest thing about showing my collection is that if you have repair people etc or visitors in your house.
This is perfect! i have been looking all over the web how to store my comic books and by far this is the most brilliant way i have found. It might be too much to ask but could you provide some measures and materials that you used to put it together? I'm not too much of a handy man but i would like to give it a shot at your cabinets. Thanks!
It took me a year from start to end. But I was only tackling it when I had the time. You could probably break the back on something like this in less than a week.
Modern/bronze comics only. I don't have a lot of older stuff so it didn't make sense to build for what I didn't have.
A-MAAAZING!
Nice showcase area!
Out! Standing!!!!
Looks really great. My only criticism is the slides you used, I would have used something a little heavier duty. Other than that great job
be cool to make duel plexiglass front with a small spacer inbetween the pieces. so that the slide in a front comic and it will always stay upright and not lean back like some of yours are doing.
man this is so awsome and sweet i love it but i wont one now lol...
That's fucking sick.
That's really great! One of my customers showed this to me and I wanted to know what kind of drawer glides you used?
fucking awesome dude, love...love...love it.!!
Awesome storage buddy i need something like this!!!
Just subbed ya i hope u post more soon
im not sure if this has been mentioned but i dont feel like scrolling thru 150+ comments. you added a space of comics next to a furnace? as you know heat is bad for comics. they need a cool dark space. in addition i like the way you can see the comics thru the plexiglass but this solution doesnt allow for easy expansion especially when you’ve carved out space from a wall.
yes it is
I think biggest question/concern is what do you do when you get more comics or a series you already have gets longer? Reorganize the ENTIRE collection to make space? Its such a time sink =( But I would Love to have this! Good Work =)
Well, he does have about 525 to 650 more comics to put there, and I always loved to sort through comics it is fun to me...lololololololol
That's the dream....!
So nice
Take my money!
A great wife!!!!
Impressive 😄👍👍
looks awesome but 1 issue you said it hold just over 150 comfortably so thats about 5000-7000 whats the plan when you run out of room
The individual boxes are 23 inches deep.
You can get som finish molding so you don't see the edges of the plywood otherwise greet idea thank you
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bro
Sorry, I don't. We scribbled on a couple sheets of paper to get the dimensions right but we never drafted anything pretty enough to share.
A good wife is worth a million comics!
That is a really nice storage system! I'm using the stackable boxes (check out my two vids on it) but this, this is the ultimate! Nice job.
i have thought of a shelf space similar to that but your sounds better
awesome!
