Well I work with individuals that have special needs, and part of my job is to take them to get hair cut in the community so that they can feel like they belong and normal like anyone else. Secondly I don't think they should be charged extra. I have seen children who are not autistic act out in the barber chair. Also, most kids weren't labeled autistic. They were called bad. So, if you're doing a public service for the community part of your job, it is to be ready for all types of personalities. There are adults that are autistic as well. They have grown accustomed to the service
You are allowed to run your business accordingly, and if they want to charge extra for kids that are "Autistic " then it should be part of their marketing plan.
Also I braid hair and cut hair so I have offered my services to my clients for free. I just think it's a form of discrimination. I love you you guys for bringing up this topic

I'm going to say this. I have a son with Autism he is now 23 year old. The first time we took him to get a hair cut and sat in that chair of the barbershop he went bananas he was 5years old. I never took him back and his father give him a hair cut. Amazing job. Just saying people need to be tactful and trained. They see the world different. People need to educate themselves about people with Autism.

That’s sad. My daughter is 5 and she’s autistic. Yes, it is harder to do her hair because she has sensory processing disorder. It’s very uncomfortable for her and it breaks my heart but it has to be done.
Let me preface this by saying I understand. Everyone is not equipped to do my daughter’s hair because they don’t understand her sensitivities. They may not have the patience. But she still deserves to have her hair taken care of. She deserves access to the same things as neurotypical children. I understand it is HARD to do a child’s hair with autism or sensory processing disorder.
That said, charging $100 extra because her disability makes your job harder doesn’t seem right to me. Why only autism?? Yes, servicing clients with a disability can make your job more challenging. But it’s your job. Either you can do it or you can’t. Everyone should be accommodating to people with disabilities. Regardless of what your job title is.

That doesn't mean they should charge you more just because she is autistic. My grand daughter cries, moves around like she is losing her mind, bounces up and down, turns her head, but she is autistic. If a parent brings a child that is not disabled in a salon or shop and that child is cutting up and breaking up stuff, crying, tearing up the shop, running around not sitting down is she going to charge 100 ex for that child? Why does the disable child have to be segregated against? Yes, when people go to get groomed you want to relax, however, I don’t feel she should charge ex for a disable child. All kids that disturb the salon should get a warning and next visit it should be stated you will be charged ex. Not just for the child with the disability. That’s just my opinion

Hello Papa Llips! You both had a good point of view on this topic. I have an Autistic cousin that goes to a Barber shop to get his hair cut and they do charge a little bit more. He gets charged up to an additional $15 depending on where he goes. His brothers are not Autistic but he is the only one. The Barber was messing up his hair cut everytime he went and he did not need any assistance to sit still in the chair. His mom knew what was going on and she didn't want to switch to somebody else who can actually cut some hair for someone Autistic or not. An extra $100 is ridiculous. If you don't have the patience or can't handle no one who is Autistic then just be up front with the Guardian. For what I'm seeing the Barber's/ hairstylists are charging additional cost for they assistance time plus styling time. Not everyone who is Autistic needs assistance and shouldn't be charged no additional cost. To eliminate the additional cost have a guardian their to help assist the child/adult needs and have a time slot reserved for them. I wouldn't want to be leaving a hair salon like somebody did a number on my head and then they charged me an extra $100 for a messed up do by a so called professional. There's places out their for mentally challenged adults/kids and they only specialize in just styling they hair only. Love you Papa Llips and snail you later on the next video. Have a bless beautiful Tuesday as I do the same! It's raining here again and people are driving like the ground is clear.🙏✝️❤️💪🤗🥰🍽️👌👍🥖🧅🧅🧅🥒🥒🐌🐌🐌

Hmmm🤔🤔 Lets look at this from different angels. The stylist should not have dibs on her life being that is her chair or business. When Target or Walmart says what they are not excepting or there is an extra step you must take to do something. What did the people do but STFU and make a decision to stay at that store or go to another store.
Being that in todays time out of 20 children 14 of them are special needs vs back in the day out of 20 children 5 were special needs. She has the RIGHT to charge extra because its more to deal with special needs children.I seen on IG where a lady took her special need child to the barber and her son ran all over the shop while she cut his hair and the mother kept her child entertained so the barber could get 10 min of him in the chair and 10 min of him standing in this place or that place and guess what NO ONE was in the shop while she cut this special need kid hair. Now lets think did the barber had to come in early or clear her schedule or stay late to accomodate this special needs kids. Umm so yes there should be an up/extra charge
Parents of special need kids can't have it both ways. Treat the special need kids like what is considered a "normal" kid , but knowing damn well your child does not behave like what is considered a " normal" kid. I say the same for children that lack home training up/extra charge.

It's discrimination. It will be different if she said if your child doesn't behave in a proper manner, I reserve the right to not give services.

Slow and autistic are completely different, I was born in the mid 70's and disabled. It's a Range as an adult, I need to be sedated for dentist care. But I am a developmentally disabled. and Yes I agree sometimes people don't meet the criteria or it's not clearly seen until stated

I work with children & adults with autism. Thats my job, I’m a registered behavioral technician. And adults can act the same behavioral wise as same as children. It doesn’t have to be children. It doesn’t matter the age.

I think as a business owner, she can serve whomever she pleases. Perhaps she has had some bad experiences with autistic children, which may have caused her some anxiety and feels justified. Even the average naughty child can reasoned with by a parent or distraction whereas it would be difficult with some autistic children

How will she find out which child has autism? Is she going to ask parents by the way they look, walk, talk, don't talk, ???

If she's charging extra for an autistic child, she should be charging extra for everyone who can't sit still, on they phone arguing with they mate and constantly moving they head, people who bring their children and the child constantly running around the place, people who need to get something to eat, etc... just don't accept them if u not treating everyone the same. Period

I looked up this stylist and I wouldn’t even go to her myself. Some prices seem ridiculous. Maybe that’s typical these days, I don’t know. Also, way too many rules for me. Seem like she’ll find any reason to up-charge you. No thanks.

One more thing, these are new hair stylist who have a laundry list of demands. Hell, they want you to wash and dry your own hair. Old school hair stylist wouldn’t have charged that child more

There are many levels to autism. I would love to know her method of "up" charging. Some are very high functioning and others are not.
