Take the muffler off the leaf blower, and make sure the screen isn't plugged up. It will also allow you to see if the cylinder wall is scored. I've fixed 2-3 Stihls leaf blower and chainsaws by taking out the screen in the muffler. You might be able to buy a top-end kit if the cylinder is scored. I would stay away from cheap Chinese knock offs. Sithk with OEM stihl parts.
TOM, 850 blower, check the exhaust. The spark arrester gets clogged with carbon buildup. Mine was a bolt style threaded into the muffler. Pull it out, hit it with a propane plumbing torch it burns the carbon buildup off the screen.
Tom, Before you get too far into the blower, have you checked and cleaned out the exhaust? A plugged up exhaust will cause a severe loss of power on one of those two stroke engines. Fingers crossed.....

On that Stihl, pull the exhaust off and cycle the cylinder to look how much wear is on the piston. If it's melted to the ring it's possible to put a new piston and cylinder in it. Not likely that the crank is fried because it probably lost compression. Still a fair bit of time and effort to disassemble and rebuild with a new piston and cylinder. Might be a good "lesson learned" - straight gas will melt 2 stroke motors.
On the leaf blower take the muffler off then you can look at the piston and cylinder to see how bad it's scored I've rebuilt a few of these my advice is to buy a new one you will open a big can of worms taking it apart
Hi Tom ;) i'm back again :) As was watching you put the trusses in I had a thought that I would have put some foam strips on the top of them to provide a barrier to the canvas not rubbing on the top of the wood ? Snow is a good and clean cover😊 With the Stihl blower it’s definitely worth fixing it. But first look inside on the piston if there are deep and feelable scratches, the it’s more complicated. Usually there are other probs with these engines, look on the gas tube for breaks, could be tested with slightly pressure it. Then the rubber adaptor tube between carburettor and engine could be ripped, or just bad positioning. Sometimes just a clogged up gas filter which sits inside gas tank on tube creates the probs, usually due to dirt in tank. Tank should always look clean inside, if there’s dirt, change firstly the filter. Then further steps. Maybe look on Stihl service schedule plan, because these gets you quick to solve the probs. Step by step. These older blowers are made for longtime usage, but the plastics do not withstand the rest. You may get a service set to replace all the older plastic tubes and these usual suspects. Take the insert out of you muffler on that leaf blower and clean it. I had one like that with no power and would just die. The muffler was plugged and when I cleaned it out it had never ran so good. Stihl says to run them full open all the time but if the run a little lower speed or idle that muffler will plug right up.
On the br800, did you check the valves? The valves may need adjustment. That motor is a 4 stroke but still uses mix gas. I'd take the muffler off and use a flashlight to look in the cylinder for scratches. I've also had one that had a bad ignition coil that caused low power and hard starting.

You know that mothballs do nothing and what mice do not like is peppermint and cinnamon smell. I catch mice at one trap overall the ones I have placed. Plus I give them a little treat of rat blocks. On my workbench right next to the electric panel is where they seem to come in, every once in a while i put a small block of poison down and they seem to take it back to where they are living. I have plenty. Outside on each corner of the building I have bait boxes screwed down on concrete slabs just big enough so other critters don't move them. You would have laughed like i did cleaning up my property where I found a child's mattress and as i drug it out with a rake the mice were running everywhere. These people before us were slobs and we managed to fill 4 or 5 roll offs from the crap in the building and around the property.
Hopefully you’re not getting the negative temperatures in addition to the windshield mid Midwest. Pretty dangerous for a few days especially in the country
Although obviously you are able, rebuilding that old motor would be so time consuming. You'd have to get all the values and check all the tolerances. And wind up replacing parts. Even replacing the motor would take time but would seem to be a more efficient route.
Has the NO gas running small garden tools / construction tools, leaf Blowers/lawnmowers , concrete saws, tampers etc come to your area yet. Though I’m not in that trade per se. Those in certain areas of the country(and more states being added)have been notified of the ban on such ..
The blower backpack. You can take the muffler off and looking into the bore to see the damage. If the cylinders all scored up from no lubricant. The bottom end tends to be more tolerant than the piston. But the parts are expensive. So your probably better to buy a new blower. Sorry for the bad news. But you probably knew this already.

Try oil of spearmint to keep the mice away. You can buy it a Home Depot in the pesticide area.
Hopefully you’re not getting the negative temperatures in addition to the windshield mid Midwest. Pretty dangerous for a few days especially in the country
Nice Vid!
Check the muffler, it might be plugged. If it has a spark arrester where the exhaust exits the muffler remove it and clean it.
Mice hate black pepper too.
The problem with having the abilities to do several types of work is the amount of space it takes up for the tools.
Rebuild the blower. We, the country, throw too much away as it is. 😊
Not yet however, we are switching to a lot of electric tools
chickanic has a video on them. if it turns over oil it up correct gas?
I could see a nice pole barn there as you do not need a floor with a pole barn
Hola saludos un gusto
The blower backpack. You can take the muffler off and looking into the bore to see the damage. If the cylinders all scored up from no lubricant. The bottom end tends to be more tolerant than the piston. But the parts are expensive. So your probably better to buy a new blower. Sorry for the bad news. But you probably knew this already.
You need electric and trickle chargers.
That thing is huge.
I put a roof between two spaced out shipping containers. I have significantly less equipment.
Now Mike Morgan will come by to see it so he can build one. Lol
Build a lumber rack. Much easier for access.
look into a short block for your stihl back pack blower
youtube.com/@Chickanic?si=0qiXvNqyXnwOhyHW Answers to all your questions on two cycle small equipment, including putting straight gas in the blower and whether it’s cost effective to rebuild or replace.
Would this type of structure be any cheaper than a pole barn on a farm?? And twice as big oughtta do you better!! 😊
Much cheaper, but a temporary building
You need to build another building just to house and store your lumber now !
4:45 mark, that truss was only out 2 inches. I bet if you flipped it around it would have been spot on! Haahahahaaaaaa! You know what they say! "**IT Happens!"
On the blower, if you haven't checked , look at the exhaust screen ,spark arrested , I have had them plugged ,
I canpt believe that you didn't put a cement floor in there. WTF!
