Seems pretty simple to me. How many ounces ball are you using for that? Is that weight enough resistance to give a good release when the fish hit it? Was wondering if it would be tough to find the balance between getting a false release because of the weight of the ball or too deep in the release where when you bring your pole up hard to free the release the whole set up slides up the downrigger cable? Was curious if you had any issues with that? I've also seen shower curtain hangers used for this.

8 oz ball and it seems to release as consistently as the main clip on the line. Just takes practice with the clip you are using. I use small Scotty clips and Pete uses large

Hi, Does this technique count as another rod? In the places I fish, a traditional slider does not count as another rod.

Well it depends. You can use this rigging with a single rod and leave the ball down. Or you can rig one rod conventionally on the rigger ball/cable the stack a SECOND rod on the same downrigger at a lesser depth. The slider you describe is I believe rigged off of the mainline on a single rod and still counts on a single rod as long as one rod and mainline is used. Check your regs but if I recall 2 or 3 hooks is legal on one mainline.
As we use the technique, we’re (or Pete is) using two rods where legal. I find 1 rod more fun albeit SLIGHTLY less productive

      Rob,
We use that method a great deal, so I'm not sure what you want for details, that weren't captured in the vide, but willing to help you out, let me know what info you need.

How do you make the rig the video was to fast

Take a carabiner with a key ring. Tie a 2 foot leader to the ring with a Duo snap, and then tie a downrigger release at the other end. Run your line behind the boat like you would for a regular downrigger hook up. You need a line counter. So lets say you are 100 feet behind the boat, now click your line into the release and hook the carabiner to the downrigger line. If you are trying to fish 20 feet deep let your line counter out 20 feet, for a total depth of 120 feet. 100 behind the boat and 20 down the downrigger cable. Hope that helps
