    Night ops-all squadron Aircraft maintainers are required to use only Blue lens flashlights. Plane directors use Yellow lights to signal the pilot’s as they taxi around the deck to the Cats or to final spot. It is hard to see things, at sunset we acclimate to the darkness and deal with it. The amber lights shining down from the island illuminate enough to see large objects. But walking around jets you must be very careful as I once walked right into a Hornet missile fin & its sharp, no fun there. Puffy lip that night. To service jets we do cheat on occasion using our illegal mini mag white lites. But don’t get caught by anyone, especially V1 Flight deck directors. Blue lens lites work if you stay in the darkness and keep your eyes acclimated. Red lites are on below decks so working night flight ops is like walking around a cave. Just part of the life being a roof rat on a CVN.

    These are great videos! thanks for making them!! Now for some questions:
    1. If one goes to another carrier, how different are the deck operations? My guess is you don't just go out on a flight deck and start like you've been there. I ask out of ignorance.
    Is recovering the aircraft much harder than launching them?
    Night operations have got to be hard in all ways, throw in foul weather, and that takes it to a new level. The flight deck crews are an amazing group of professionals. Thanks for everything!

    • @stanstenson8168
      @stanstenson8168 3 года назад +4

      Actually CVN operations are standardized. CV NATOPS is the main pub. You can pretty much go from one carrier to another and things will be pretty much the same.

    • @michaelmappin4425
      @michaelmappin4425 2 года назад +2

      I kind of disagree with Stan's response but I also agree. Yes, publications have standardized operations but there is still a requalification process that must be done on the new ship. You have to have a license to drive a tractor, a firetruck, or a mobile electric powerplant. You need to get relicensed on the next carrier. Designations for aircraft director, shooter, and many other important positions are signed by the commanding officer. You will need a new designation letter at your next command. Most of the leadership is going to want to ensure you know what you're doing in case some other command gundecked signatures (signing without verifying).

    • @chrismaggio7879
      @chrismaggio7879 2 года назад +1

      VS24AT is actually half right... by comparison it IS boring to roof rats below the deck. But another reason is security. If you have video of the spaces or passageways, and they show where vital spaces are located (even just the frame numbers) then you lose some integrity of the "hidden" safe space we call home. You might also see equipment and machinery that is not for public consumption, as well as safety and structural components of the ship.

I was a green shirt, and the time in between shots was never long enough.
