Listening to this talk gives me nostalgia. I lived through all of this.
Al hamdulillah. I was 14 years old when I first met Babar. He gave da'wah to me and my younger brother. In 1992 he and his oldet brother gave me my shahadah. A year later, my younger sister and brother acceptec Islam. Many years later my mother accepted tawheed. Babar was the first Muslim face when i first became Muslim...his was the last Muslim face she saw before passing away.
Allah is the one who guides. However, the one who does not thank people doesn't thank Allah. An entire family accepted deen via Babar Ahmad.

We need to get Babar back in the studio, inshā'Allāh! This was a super insight discussion, and it would be great to hear Br Babars thoughts on the current situation globally (in E Turkestan, Filistīn, Syria, etc).

I have to highlight a point that needs to be recognized. I hope many of the ISIS supporters that generally lurk around online can reflect. The Bosnian jihad and the mujahideen who fought there reflect the true virtue, essence, and manner of Jihad. The way the entire Muslim Ummah supported the Jihad in Bosnia, and no one shied away from it. In the US & UK and abroad. And the mujahideen there did not have to deal with the 'justification of intentionally targeting non-combatants' like the way AQ and eventually ISIS ended up doing, which opened the door to shedding massive blood and losing the support of Muslims worldwide. Only if they kept their manners clean when performing this ibadah.
However, there is one question which always lurked - What IF it wasn't the Serbs that Bosnians had to defend against. What if it was US or UK and its allies? Would the 'jihad' still be the same? As we know US/UK were neutral initially but then eventually went against Yugoslavia. That is a big question mark as many say that when it's Jihad for the sake of the Western interest, it's legit. When it's against Western interest, it's terrorism as was seen in Afghanistan/Iraq/Palestine, etc.
Nevertheless, to keep this perspective balanced - as to those who want to find excuses to blame all salafies, remember - it was mainly those who were upon the salafi jihadi methodology who were from overseas that went to fight in the Bosnian jihad. It was mainly their scholars and preachers from the Arab world as well as Muslims residing in the West that went to fight Jihad taught the Bosnians about their forgotten religion of Islam. That's something one simply cannot deny.

So many comments left here are self indulgent 🙄
Well done brothers. You’re doing a fantastic job. There’s so many people living in the UK that don’t know the history and recent history of Islam in the UK, the living legends who are still around who people don’t know what they’ve been through so thank you for doing this. All your podcasts have been fascinating. Hopefully you’ll be on tv one day (to reach more people) insha’Allah. Keep up the good work.
Btw This awful tasting bubble tea epidemic has been stolen from the proper Mauritian Alouda. Google it. You’re welcome.

At about 32 minutes Dr. Salman Butt makes an interesting point about us Muslims in the UK also having our ‘fair share’ of psychopaths and sociopaths, the numbers possibly being around 30 000 and 120 000 respectively (if western statistics can be applied to Muslim populations). I would also add narcissists to the list and would suggest that they are more of a problem in our Islamic institutions in the UK than they are abroad in conflict zones as they tend to find their way into the management teams of Muslim schools or into mosque committees: leadership positions in which they are extremely exploitative and even unproductive.
Recently, I came across a TEDx talk in which a western lady addressed the growing problem of having such a large percentage of such people (specifically narcissists) in the workplace and how workplaces could deal with them. As Muslims, we know that many of our failing Muslim schools and other institutions like mosques are often due to certain toxic individuals at the top but there is no concerted effort to deal with them or to even address the issue. Instead, we watch our hard earned cash, that was used to purchase buildings to turn into schools, mosques and Islamic centres, go to waste as these institutions fail or are never allowed to reach their full potential.
We have the system of Shura in our religion and the lady’s solution was firstly to ensure that the really pathological and extreme individuals are weeded out but it requires having an awareness that such people actually exist. Only then can we ensure that we work with other productive Muslims to not allow these people to take over our institutions. With the less pathological ones, her solution was more about managing their behaviour rather than rectifying it (the success rate of western psychotherapy to rectify the behaviour is very low) but as Muslims our Imams and Muslim psychologists must work together to help these individuals as for us it’s not simply a case of ensuring that our workplaces are productive but these people have diseases of the heart that are destructive to their families and communities in other ways too as well being detrimental to their own after-life.

@@ahsanmohammed1 I disagree. Someone estimated that the degree of psychopathy in every community, religion and ethnicity is severely underestimated. This means that there are psychopaths in the Muslim community as well. A guesstimate is that between 1% and 6.2% of all people are psychopaths & narcissists who prefer positions of power.

there are psychopaths amongst them as well.
