@@katzmosestoolsThank you very much, I am just getting started in finner woodworking and your videos are a great help. I am getting you dovetail guide as a Christmas present and I can't wait!!
I saw tip 1 a long time ago and always wondered why nobody ever explained it when they were showing how to use these saws. You have provided the best and clearest directions I have ever seen. Thank you. You are the very best.
As someone that has studied Japanese tools, and uses mostly Japanese tools. One problem I see most Westerners do when using a Japanese saw is that they hold it like a western saw. There is a reason the handle is so long. You want to hold the saw as far back on the handle as you can. This makes for much more accurate and stable cuts.
I watched this video, put my eyeglasses on, had another look at my Japanese saws and was dumbstruck 😮, I never noticed the back and front end of the saw plate, absolutely genius, you Sir, are a Master.
I just bought 3 saws and a jig from Jonathan. Great communication, super fast shipping, combined item discounts. Beat amazon pricing. The shopping experience is as good as his videos.
I'm getting ready to use my Japanese pull saw for the first time (on a real project) and these tips saved me a lot of trial and error thank you! Also, if I close my eyes and listen to you I'd swear Guy Fieri was teaching me woodworking recipes.
Been contemplating buying the jig for a while, but this settled it. Got a saw, both jigs, and the stop block. Great deal! Hoping to teach my 10 year old daughter dovetails. She’s wanted to for a while and I think the jigs will lessen the frustration factor. Thanks!
What I learned about Japanese saws is, they, (Japanese carpenters), like to cut at angles. Just like you did with that see through block. The reason behind that is, as you cut on one side, they "flip" the piece around or move to the other side pending on large the piece is. They'll cut on opposite side going back and forth between the 2 sides, the "cut" acts as a guide to the saw. It's cutting a "triangle" until the end of cut and just as you shown us about that "gauge" or tooth, it guides to finish the cut. I'd love to get a set of those Suizan saws just, the timing of your sale doesn't coincide with mine at the moment. Hopefully, later on or if there's another discount sale you might have. Never thought about the back/end teeth in that way before, something new for me. I just always used my marking knife/utility knife after using a chisel to make that knife wall. Thank you. Cheers :)
What would you suggest I do in this case. I'm cutting aorund a door frame and I made a great little jig to the height I need but I keep getting lift up on the handle side which makes for a less than square cut
Hi Jonathan just order 3 of the saws. I already have a Suizan saw and it's great they work really well with your jigs and alignment board. I thinking the folding saws will help with storage. Thanks Bob
Really appreciate the skill building segments...The ease in checking out of your store was helpful...I can’t wait to use the two 9.5 inch folding saws...I have another dovetail jig but would enjoy trying yours one day...Thank you
I would love to see a rob cosman style marking knife from Suizan. I use your small Dozuki for dovetailing, and I love the depth stop feature, sometimes. Other times I want to use the tip of my saw to co into the kerfs of my tails cuts to mark out my pins ala rob cosman. Could suizan provide a marking knife blade made in the same kerf size as their Dozuki saws?
Thanks for the tips. I have lived in Japan for 30 years and use saws regularly, but did not know the first tip. For the second tip, I think the situation is different in Japan, because none of the saws are shiny, they all come with a matt finish. Perhaps they make shiny saws for export because perhaps overseas customers like them that way?
Hey buddy huge fan I am a newer wood worker started back last summer so almost a year into it and I finally have all my small medium and stationary power tools in my shop set up and working and have started buying hand tools the past few monthes and I’m ready to try some dovetails I see there are 2 types of your magnetic dovetail jig in your shop online do I need the 8:1 or 6:1 what’s the difference what are they for please let me know and I’ll order now thanks
I just visited the link and am very pleased to say there are no tools over $50. I saw several saws I never seen before, I was very impressed with what I saw. Usually you see a saw like these and they are priced over $100. But I think he makes his money off the t-shirts $30 each. I purchase and sell screen t-shirts at local stores near me. I buy blank T-shirts for $2-3 each in bulk (usually high quality). If your paying more than $15-20 for a screened t-shirt, your paying too much. My custom t's sell wholesale to the retailer for $7 and they double to tripple that for retail.
Great saws & great pricing even after shopping. I bought the folding Ryoba right after you recommended it previously, I've been waiting for purchase of the other two I wanted till you had them up on your store. Now you need to stock replacement blades also! Thanks.
Since I'm getting into building guitars I've been needing to get one of those saws you use for dovetails cause I've seen a lot of guys using them to cut the fret slots. I was going to order it off Amazon but since you're carrying them I might as well get a folding one from you.
Might not only be cheaper, but a lot less expensive than what we used at Stars Guitars in San Francisco. A full size Bridgeport Milling Machine w/digital readout. (I was the Guitar Doctor and used to make "House Calls" to concerts and recording studios & fix things on the spot as well as in-house repairs.)
Awesome! Have you done a video on your process for making a product? Not how you came up with a product, but the process of prototyping, sourcing materials, and where to have them made?
Sir can I have a job? Woodworking is the most rewarding thing I've ever done. And your channel has probably helped me the most to increase my skill. Thank you
Hullo young man. I watched your first video on tricks with the Japanese saw's and I use them frequently, they are also very well price for the quality you show. the problem is they are too expensive for us to buy over hear. On the other hand if I bought one of your drawing's you could consider sending me one that would allow me to return a comment.Take care BIG GUY.
Can anyone tell me the Dozuki 9.5" saw That is featured in this vid...how deep is the cut? I would like to know how wide is it (from the edge of teeth up to the spine) before i buy it. Thanks
I need a good saw that I will be using to make musical instruments. Sometimes the wood I cut into is very hard... With these saws do you sharpen or just replace the blades?
I dont have and never have used a Japanese saw but have been wanting one. What would you recommend for a good all around general purpose saw? I dont plan on doing dove tails. Thank you
Everytime I see that metal piece sticking out an angle from that front pouch I wonder when he is going to catch the inside of his arm on it and rip a hole.

1:40 ladies and gentlemen, this is what woodworkers do for some bonus cash.
The third tip was the cut supposed to be slanted? I guess they are just demoing and not trying to produce a straight line?
I'm always learning something new when I watch your videos! Love Your Channel!!!

Can you explain the difference in the 8:1 and the 6:1 Dove tail Jig? Which one would you recommended for a 1st timer?
8:1 is typically for hardwood and 6:1 is typically for softwoods. If you're only going to get one I prefer the 8:1.
