Just another evolution in sports gear. The game started out with guys wearing leather helmets. Then cheap plastic with one crossbar. Half a century later, here we are with inflatable inner helmets, contours, intricate crossbars with visors to keep from getting your eyes poked.
I like the way you tink
next up, flags and skirts
Who knew these macho football people were such fashionistas? Lol. “OMG…It looks funny!” Hilarious! Equating flags and skirts with safety is comedy gold. These same people whined about seatbelts and tobacco warnings and still abhor the elimination of lead water pipes for drinking water. Grow up. It is just a stupid helmet. The game will not change one iota as a result of this.
@@ItSaBeastNerd its common sense
@@AngryAmericano On the Internet, common sense goes out to window
What Coach Saleh said… time will tell. Time sure told about CTE.
Yeah still dealing with small samples. I don’t think an actual game has ever been played with these
Better enforce mouthpiece and knee pad rules too then. Also better have the players play on grass and not turf.
Well said
Woah, a brain injury is pretty serious dude. Equating adding protections for brain injuries is the same as a mouth guard and knee pads is silliness.
@@TheHollomap Or maybe, just maybe my point is that if they truly do care about the safety and well-being of their players, then they should enforce previous rules that were put in place for their safety as well.
CTE is worse than getting your teeth knocked out, but I still don't want them knocked out.
@@TheHollomap While the research is still out, mouthguards are often considered to help prevent concussions, as well
@@StarShadowPrimal Well I would say if they help use them. I have had multiple concussions in my life over 10, and it has caused some problems for me personally so. Concussions are not fun and should not be something taken lightly.
The guardian caps are gonna be same color of the helmet and have the team’s logo on the side as if it were a helmet, its obviously not gonna be shiny or anything it’s gonna be a flat color. However that does take away from the esthetic but they’re trying to prevent head injuries so you gotta respect it
@@sportsbooklab7147 The first football players played with leather caps and and no face mask. They created football but wore completely different attire with lack of padding. Does that make players like Sewell, Mahomes, Watt, and CMC fake players?
@@ItSaBeastNerd yes
@@sportsbooklab7147 A. What happened to your first reply saying “fake football players”? You delete it?
B. Why do you care then? You should’ve never started watching football in the first place first place because they only added pads to the players as time went on. Even physical players like L.T. wore pads back then, the time period people say football was actually hard hitting. But I guess by your logic, L.T. could never be a real player, and those hard hits could never be “real” football because of all that protection.
Start your own league that brings back football from its roots, “real” football played by “real” players to entertain people like yourself..
@@ItSaBeastNerd NFL is way too soft might as well just play flag football with how concerned they are about safety. I don’t respect the NFL commissioner it’s not really the players fault. I grew up playing football in my little town and I knew the risk of being injured but I still played because that’s what the culture used to be it was a violent brutal game and it made you tougher it built character. It’s plain a simple you don’t sign up to play football if you don’t know the risks. Don’t play football if you scared to get a concussion
@@sportsbooklab7147 Unless you’re a boomer, you never played “real” football
Gotta have the logo on it
Yea, and that will be hard to print on it.
SAFR fixes that issue, as does the VICIS.
Who thinks guardians look bad???
Me
i think that oline and dline might wear them
They are very effective but they def look goofy, and cover the helmets and the details. You can’t deny they don’t look as good as wearing just the helmet
Who cares it’s only in practice. But it looks so bad they should atleast add logo and color on it
I think they look like crap. But I would love if every player on my favorite team wore them.
If they prevent even 1 concussion, it’s totally worth it.
They're great for practices, yeah I get it. Preseason games too, fuck it... but Regular season and Playoff games? fuck no.
Hundreds of nfl players have died from the cte, which is a disease that slowly shuts down your brain until you lose all your memories, forget how to do anything, and then die. You get cte from getting too many concussions. It’s not like they’re 90 when they die, they’re usually in their 50s and 60s. Lives are being cut short because of players getting too many concussions, and the guardian can reduce them by 50%, which would save lives, but think players shouldn’t wear them because they look bad??
@@johnnyboi522 Yes.
We either care about Player Safety or we don't.
The idea isn't to look like we care... which is what limiting the usage is. The idea is to actually care, and thus mandate and enforce things that align with Player Safety.
If you don't like how it looks, use the SAFR or the VICIS. That simple.
Great idea, but it needs a plate on the side to display a decal.
Yall so weird for hating on safety … these are ppls sons, brothers, and dads, grandsons.
Fair criticism. But you also heard actual players in the video say nobody will wear them
It fr makes no sense and as someone who has had many concussions and head related injuries i find this a nice change but i dont see any skill players other than MABYE rbs might wear it
And those sons brother and dads knew what they were getting themselves into. When I got into MMA I knew the risks when I signed the forms. If I have problems when I'm older, so be it.
@@nakmuay7705naa bro it’s not a combat sport. It’s physical but not combat. U knew u were gonna get punched in the face. These kids don’t really kno how detrimental head contact can be. They need this protection. Clearly as data has shown over the years.
@@PowerHourNFL but we also have heard players and even former players say they will or that they wish they could.
Hopefully soon they will be able to miniskirts during regular season games 🙏
Butt plugs with team logos if we're lucky
Thank you for the explanation. I always wondered what and why is that on a helmet?
Appreciate you, Brother Mouzone. I hope you watch more of my videos!
I gotta say, as a football fan going into the medical field, I love this decision. Head injuries are no joke, this could massively help with CTE if players wear these over a career.
So could “not tackling,” which is where this is heading.
I see a couple of options. First, if the guardian cap is so good, why not put it inside the helmet? Wouldn't it provide as much protection on the inside? It might require a redesign of the helmet, but they're being redesigned all the time anyway. Second, since the NFL is going to allow the players to choose whether to use it on game day, why not also give the players the option of using the SAFR helmet cap?
They need to take the helmet as we know it out completely. Make the new "helmet" out of the guardian cap material and they should look like the old helmet with logo etc. The lighter material will make players not feel comfy lowering their head. It'll enhance athletic play as well
You're not wrong. Rugby with its minimal pads and head protection, forces players to play and tackle properly. Football players with their helmets and pads feel invincible and play as such, often leading to head injuries
@farminstoltzfus 💯! I'm 50 and I've been talking about this for about 20 years. I remember how it felt wearing that helmet. It almost promotes bad form
Doesn't it add weight that they claim is hard on your neck causeing more neck injuries? Thats the reason they can't have facemasks that are more closed up.
Safe as possible? isnt the first thing coaches tell players is to sacrifice their bodies for the game?
Ye but this aint hs or college they get paid millions to do this and if they choose too were em let em i wouldn’t want my favorite player have there career stripped away due to a head injury that coulda been prevented
I don't think it should be mandatory, but you should be allowed to wear it in the game if you want.
With how strict the concussion protocol is, whatever is going to keep players from coming out of games prematurely is good with me. How many times do you see a player angry as hell leave the game looking fine because they are showing signs of a concussion? Give them good looking equipment that let's them stay in the game as long as they can at this point
goood informative video thank you
It’s a good idea. you can paint the caps to look like a normal helmet or just make a better helmet. Speaking from experience as a linemen, anything that helps protect your head helps because the line gets vile sometimes.
Edit: kept watching and if you think it looks ugly just increase the padding on the inside or add more air. Sacrifice comfort for safety every time. (Btw I think the Vicis 02 looks amazing, if I had the option to use it I would)
CFL allowed them for this season, which is underway.
Have not seen any in games yet.
That double helmet idea has been around since 1990. I remember Mark Kelso using one. That other one looks stupid.
I understand looks and the commercial side of it, but doesn't anyone else feels like players are forced to trade their safety for "making the game look good" which is basically NFL revenue ? Just look in F1 with the Halo, safety over looks. Just take a look on let's say own NFL studies about concussions. They shouldn't be wrapped in shipping bubbles, but this, this is a pretty significant improvement. And it doesn't have to really be the guardian cap, they could push this one mandatory and force a standard for impact that someone might replicate with interior padding.
Honestly bro I think line men could really benefit by wearing these all the time in games..
If they save health yes but asteticly they would need the logos and stuff on them
Why not make a bigger helmet with more foam inside?
This reminds me of a very old SNL skit, where they had the Gary Busey helmet protector. You can Google it.
Basically, Gary Busey had a motorcycle accident in the 80s.
In the skit, they had a protector that fit over the helmet. Then they had a protector for the protector, and so on. Eventually the helmet was larger than Dark Helmet in Space Balls.
ruclips.net/video/523uxQkS4Zo/видео.html
Look at the 1 MLB pitcher who wore the oversized cap...1 guy! It's really hard to introduce headwear that people will adopt, I'm not sure if the guardian cap will catch on.
Why even hit each other? One hug = 6 points, one snuggle = PAT
Im in.
Unban the hip drop tackle and allow these to be worn during games
Keep preaching brother
One or the other and I think I like this one better
I don't like the guardian caps because of how they look, but 5 1/2 minutes into this video the perfect solution is shown. I remember seeing alignment for the 49ers where a gazoo helmet, and a safety for the bills wearing one, but I don't remember seeing Don Beebe wear one. Obviously he did otherwise that picture wouldn't exist, but that was extra padding that went on over a helmet similar to the guardian caps, but it velcro directly onto the helmet. In the late sixties and early seventies there were helmets with padding permanently attached to the outside, and I think that can be brought back too.
The only real argument that I have, and that I think anybody else has is that it doesn't look good. I did get my first concussion my freshman year in high school, and it was from taking the crown of someone else's helmet on my jaw. I probably would have still had a concussion if a guardian cap existed then, but there's also the chance that it might not have happened. Either way I think they really need to bring back the old version that can match the helmet.
Why don't they just put it under the helmet
theres already padding inside the helmet, to add more padding inside theyd have to make the shell bigger, which means added weight, which means neck problems
The padding designed to defer point of impact it an over helmet thing soften and redirect the blows
no for the fact it could make it unsafe if improtperly mounted and their can be safer options for helmets in near future
Question⁉️ what 🐴 🕳️ do you fire when the head injuries, statistically and overall seriousness, stay exactly the same, only to spend millions on rebrand and new equipment, just to go back to the good ol' plastic.
Lacross tried this, i think, and ended up going back to plastic, why would football be any different
Honestly I think their great for lineman and punt returners or kick returners just guys your not really looking at every single play
True. It would be interesting if they limit it to JUST those players
If they care about player safety outlaw artificial turf
I'm for it
This is just going to make players use their heads more, which will lead to more head injuries.
B.s players have been using these at all levels for years, no issues no ones even going to wear them in games anyway
Why not just make the helmet out of a softer foam material
I bet if they made them mandatory they would also find a way to make them more aesthetic. A season or two wearing these and it would be an old hat (so to speak)
Don Beebe gives a thumbs up, Lord Darkhelmet says use the farce.
I'm not understanding how the VICIS looks bad.
Looks cool as hell, really stands out against the 'domes'.
You like Spoilers on your car? You got a hood with Vents? That's supped up, right? VICIS is supped up. Damn thing has Vents and Flares. How do you look at that, then look at a regular helmet, and then say "The space ship one sucks... give me the bowl."?
I actually agree with you on the VICIS. I'd wear it for sure
Players' long-term health trump aesthetics everytime without question. I strongly believe the padded caps should be permited (assuming it's the only NFL-approved option). Aesthetics should only be considered if the two options offer similar function and injury-prevention utility. I think the NFL has an ethical responsibility to inform players of potential risks (concussions, CTE, etc.) and permit the use of additional safety equipment. The players should still have the right to pick their actual equipment.
Yes
Cool dude
Safety and concussion avoidance is #1, however that is achieved that is good.
True
Don't forget to enforce the mandatory cup . Gotta protect the jewels.
The players should have the option to wear them if they want, and if it is widely adopted, we'll see Guardian Caps with logos on them real quick.
The Guardian cap make the helmet heavier. Less head injuries / More neck injuries.
Reminds me of the old school leather helmets
I'd love to see them bring them back for one game. Why not? lol
@@PowerHourNFL I'm with it

Y/N/M. Guardian caps look really stupid, but I think anything that helps keep players healthy throughout their lives isn't a bad thing. Think moving forward with continual improvements that keep safety and health in the forefront are the best thing for everyone.
I think it will lead to players leading with their head more often.
Yall should look up q collar they should all be using those too
I got a concussion in practice before these were available.. I'd definitely wear it.. fuck how it look..

They'll start using that thing during the game, and it should be fine
The smartest players who want to add another contract to their career will wear them. Especially if they've had a head injury previously. It wouldn't surprise me if the NFL or a big college works with company to produce a new standard for helmets to get the best of both worlds.
Hear me out, make the inside of the helmet have the same affect as the guardian
They already are….
Then why do these reduce concussion by 50%? If they allready do there would be no diffrence between wearing it and not wearing it.
@@wendull811it’s extra padding that reduces the blunt force
They are slowing down cte, not preventing it. As safety goes, when you get hit or hit your head period and regardless of how safe; the brain can't be fully protected. As a football fan, I'm happy they are doing it but it's not solving anything
What kind of music do you play?
The guys talking about how it looks 😂😂😂.
People dont care about the players safety and i will say the hip drop rule is dumb but as a player myself the guardian caps are honestly fine it doesn’t make them hit softer all it does is reduce injury but once these clowns favorite player starts wearing em they finna switch up just watch
What is happening to the nfl
I’m not qualified but I like the last RIDdeLL

I mean the biggest issue with Football is that it’s dangerous. That’s it. The NFL has to do everything in its power to sell people on how it isn’t. Personally instead of the guardians caps. I would love the NFL going the Rugby route and say you have to tackle in the midsection of a player only, and as a consequence the ball carrier cannot lower their shoulder.
Imagine tua getting punked out that bills game where he fell backwards then play all over teammates help him up to walk and he collapsed again. He wear that cap think he would have just been shoved to the ground and be fine, then play the bengals following week night game where he repping the west coast with his hand W then get another one? I mean bills game can’t believe he had a concussion from just that shove. The bengals he had 2 linemen on him and making sure that he was down so I can see concussion obviously if he like tu pac and throwing up hand signs. Don’t think more padding will equal less concussion. Football suppose to be a contact sport and pretty aggressive, maybe slow down the rate of players getting CTE from all the tackles and dirty plays that happen but naw I don’t think it’ll stop or change the rate a player gets a concussion. Be like ufc making you fight with already “padded” gloves then add on that training cap they where during sparing to wear at fight night because so many fighters get KO’d and suffer concussions and still continue to fight and be fine after retirement. So far Dan Henderson seems to be the only real retired ufc fighter that has changed the way he talks and thinks. I mean he can talk but it’s slurry sometimes but he seems to know where he’s at who’s there and all. Brendan Schaub the real fighter who looks like fighting screwed up his brain. He wasn’t a terrible fighter but he didn’t have a nice defense and ate punches so only reason I bring him up with showing different changes to the brain from concussions. Where Dan Henderson is slowly aging and showing signs of any real brain trauma
Cant believe people be arguing aestetics vs safety of a human being...
They should wear cone head caps to reduce helmet to helmet injuries
Just use the newer riddle
I am all for it. But, let's make a Game Version. If the Players feel that they like-it, and would wear-it. I am Old Skool! That's what's wrong with ne now. Wear the Cap. Coach is correct, too.
why dont they just put the padding inside the helmet makes no sense to me
It is already. It’s not enough
I’m not trying to be mean but that laugh needs to be changed 😂😂😂
Looking goofy > permanent brain damage
They could where the cushions on the inside of the helmet
I thought that too
yeah there’s not a lot of room in there for more padding if you’ve never actually worn one. also, not really how physics work.

@fullmetalx644 , I do care for player safety (loved the game since pop warner) and the caps should be on if it cuts out injury. All I'm asking for is a mesh over the cap or integrate the design cap into the helmet to make them look seemless and better.
They may look a bit stupid ( though I’m sure things will be done to improve the athletics a bit ) but if you all want the game to continue and don’t want to see the future generations of athletes move to soccer or basketball to avoid head injuries I suggest you all get used to it.
Every year they make something for 50% of concussions

Solution: Make the player feel LESS safe in the helmet so they stop using their head as a weapon. Make helmets lighter and make them feel less bulky.
Should be optional
