    This fight really highlights Korra's shortcomings, even aside from the PTSD and physical trauma. She treats her bending attacks as simple extensions of arms and legs; a thrown boulder is just an extended punch, a gust of air is just an extended kick. She doesn't really demonstrate too much creativity (like Kuvira hitting her from multiple angles, controlling her limbs, shifting the ground underneath her, etc.).

      Ironically enough, korra not using big range attacks (that isnt earth bending) is her downfall for this fight. Kuvira's style is a precise style of fighting that resembles boxing's weaves and sways. Should korra use a big blast of fire, kuvira should have trouble and go on the defensive which opens a lot more doors for korra.

She won against Unalaq only with the help of Raava and Jinora (ok maybe this counts as a win for Korra). She was also obliterated by Zaheer and only survived due to the help of others. It is only in Book 4 that she not only learned from the antagonists, but even defeated an antagonist in an 1v1 battle and showed the antagonist a new light. It is only then that she has the high ground in both power and ideology

    Other than Korra's PTSD and recent recovery, I think Kuvira's greatest advantage here is the fact that she spent nearly her entire life honing her earthbending skills to their absolute limits. The Avatar will always have the advantage in a fight since they know more than one element and have master them all in previous lives. But if you can defeat the avatar, make them run away from a fight, or if the avatar is in need of rescuing, then I would count it as a win for the attacker.

That's only if they fight benders who are beginners or not skilled in their crafts. This fight is a perfect example of, even if you might be more powerful than your opponent, if you lack the exsperience, and all you know how to do is throw a stright forward predictable attack, you will loose, thats why i always told my friends that even aang with only air bending at 12 could of beaten early korra, cuz all she knew at the time was how to throw her elements not move to the flow of them or use them efficiently, she uses every element like its only coming out of her body like simple minded fire benders, just shooting in a stright line, thats why toph and kuvira could so easily bob and weave out of the way of her attacks, its exactly the same as when azula was unstable and zuko knew he could tske her, cuz in her unstable state he knew she would just launch predictable attacks in anger and not be crafty like she usually is, and use her bending to its fullest, kuvira took advantage of korra's mental state and moved the battle to her flow, its almost like she and toph were dancing with korra and they were leading her to move exactly the way they wanted her to.

      Man, a blast of fire with air bending right behind it would be devastating. Remember what firelord ozai did with his fire blast? An avatar state korra could burn the whole army or at least give them nasty 3rd degree burns. There would be nothing they can do to block it because the air blast pushing the flames can wrap around shields.
      We see a whole lot of fire being stopped by an earth wall in animated movies but irl any big enough blast of fire would wrap around the wall and give the person ducking behind it a serious burn.
      Fire also has 1 realistic advantage that is never shown in fiction is heat strokes. 1 blast of fire towards someone could give them a stroke due to the sudden change in temperature and pressure of the immediate atmosphere. This could pop their ear drums (like how it feels when an airplane ascend) or burst arteries (aka a stroke)

Kuvira won because she knew her element and owned it (earth/metal bending). It sucked that Korra lost but she learned a valuable lesson from losing to Kuvira. Also they could've sent a wave of metal plates their way like bullets and with their high speed and narrowness, they would've cut through the tornado like it was nothing. Turning ineffective dance on martial arts into a so much effective earth & metal bending. Usually positioning your back to your opponent is deemed to be ineffective or just downright useless and dangerous, but she just did that move to evade or activatinh her bending technique. Flawless victory indeed.

    • @marngao
      @marngao Год назад +14

      it isnt gone at all, there is still the original martial arts of each bending style in the show. some characters just do what iroh did in the original, incorporate the styles of other nations in their bending. for iroh he incorporated the techniques water benders use in order to redirect lightning, eska and desna look like they incorporate earth techniques into their water bending, and kuvira's fighting really looks kinda light on her feet like airbenders compared to the usual firm and planted stances earthbenders use. Its not even odd since the series take place after a war that kept the nations divided, its end means it was just a matter of time before cultures spread.

      Korra has PTSD over her fight with Zaheer which has caused her to be haunted by the version of herself that was poisoned in the avatar state. Before this battle, Korra removed the rest of the poison so everyone thought she had finally recovered but in that moment the vision haunted her again and it was on Kuvira. I don’t think that would work on a metal bender. The only person that technique was used on was Varrick, a non-bender, and a scene in ATLA showed earth-benders can easily escape earth shackles, despite their hands being tied, so the same logic would apply to metal benders.

    This is exactly what happens when you challenge someone whose power is beyond anything, something out of this world that humanity can't comprehend. The Avatar themselves don't truly understand the scope or limits of their own powers, and there's someone like Kuvira who confidently challenges them, especially in the Avatar State. This is a state where the Avatar is at their peak, a conduit for cosmic energy, wielding a power that can obliterate an entire army like a gust of wind scattering dust. It's a power that could reshape the very foundations of the world if the Avatar wanted to, a force of nature capable of reshaping the very landscape of the planet.
