Yeah that was literally a text book example of what not to do, as this also is. Erin quite liked the speakers, the review was pretty good. A couple of years ago there were other people who criticised the implementation of a new medical intervention and were also prevented from sharing their information with others. Welcome to the Brave New World!
DCS deserves zero sales. A bigger ma and pa company did this kind of thing in the film world. They were not making film, they were repackaging other manufacturers film and giving it a cool looking box. Then when other, but smaller ma and pa operations started doing the same thing, they started threatening to sue. All they got ultimately, was loads of bad publicity and sales went down. Only company's that appear to want to look like idiots do this. Just put DCS on your never buy under any circumstances list. They have earned it.
Auto Expert did good job on DCS as well ... being careful not to have them suing him as well. There's a federal government document that show DCS batteries of certain variations perform poor.
Deep Cycle Systems (DCS) didn't like the real-life testing reults of their battery, so they 1. insideously changed the terms and conditions of the warranty 2. sued Stephan for telling the truth Great way to destroy a company
It’s a terrible response from DCS and out of principle these clowns should be avoided based on their poor response notwithstanding the fact they are selling a product that doesn’t align with what they are purporting it to be.
There is another review on DCS batteries from the USA done by DIY Solar, very non biased and technically accurate. Final review says sub standard engineering, very second rate assembly and attention to detail with a high probability of failure if used as a car starter battery under the hood. He also points out that it is basically a restickered cheaply constructed Chinese battery. Good on you for supporting the other RUclips guy, it’s not slander if it’s true.
IMHO A company may have shot itself in the testies while playing with projectiles. I do suggest people have a look at all of the videos listed above. They are all very interesting and point out some very good information.
I watched an American RUclipsr who stripped their batteries down , the batteries did what they said on the tin , but when taken apart what was inside was poor and dangerous.
It's interesting that the Australian government also did factual test on a number of different batteries and they showed the DCS battery fail badly. See Louis' video for the details. Doesn't this mean Stefan has the backing of the Australian government!? 😊
Australian (& imported) Car companies learned back in the 1960s that there is no milage in suing for a bad review. That precedence will be hard for DCS to overcome.
A poor business model: sue people for criticising rather treating such information as valuable consumer feedback to use for product improvement - you're also getting this performance data for free!!
Could not agree more. DCS has scored an own goal with this and it serves them right. Just on another note mate. Do you service vintage onkyo equipment?
Love seeing all the other Australians that’re disgusted with DCS’ conduct It’s had a Streisand effect in engineering circles im in; most didn’t know how bad they were before now and now no-one I know is willing to even consider their batteries
I have followed Stefan for years now and I find him an honest and down to earth guy. I think DCS have shot themselves in the foot and I bet they didn't count on the RUclips community giving it so much airplay.
Yep me too and there is no doubt he means well, anyone can see that. Shot themselves in the foot..? I reckon they shot themselves right in the nutsack with this one!
This is why early Nissan Leaf battery packs performed poorly in hot climates (later ones not quite as bad). Every other electric vehicle on the market has active water cooling. Certainly no place for lithium under the bonnet!
Definitely spreading quick, there won’t be many sales in Australia anymore. And especially from me. If they wouldn’t have started the law suit they would have been way better off.
there are some different chemistries under the lifpo4 subsets that allow for high and low temp conditions like Lithium Iron Yttrium Phosphate - LiFeYPO4 (LYP for short
I'm strongly in support of highlighting the issue Stephan has found himself in and I thankyou. But to categorise Lithium isn't suitable for under bonnett use clearly isn't correct. There is another family based business in WA doing tremendously well with their under bonnet Lithium drop in replacement batteries. Difference is, they market their stuff at affordable prices, unlike the company in question hence there are far far more units out there doing as designed to do without issue. Another RUclipsr has tested them and done reviews on them being utilised for an entire lap around Australia under bonnet. I have run their specific under bonnett cranking battery since May 2022, so yes a lithium battery designed for under bonnett purpose can be utilised under bonnett. Please don't categorise, as doing so may take sales from the other family run company that are treating the public and customers right, that company is Itech. I do use their products and am an entirely satisfied customer.
That's OK and thanks for your support! We can agree to disagree on the point of LiFePO4 chemistry and heat though. I've spent my life involved in science so there's no categorisation here, just information and what I know to be true based on the science. This is not my opinion by the way, it's simply about the chemistry. I neither like nor dislike the information, it's simply information. That said, I know the company you are referring to and I'm sure their products are much better.
Once upon a time defamation could exist for something that is true but damages the reputation of another. The defence had to be that it was in the public interest. In the Bruce Lehrman case the defamation was dismissed solely on the basis that the judge thought that it might have been true "on the balance of probabilities". Which of these two is the correct interpretation? If the Lehrman standard was adhered to then any evidence that the review was true would become the end of the action. If the previous standard was adhered to then you would have to show that the knowledge was vital to consumers more generally.
The ceo who authorised this action should be expelled by the shareholders to never run a company ever again. Fastest way ever to ensure nobody buys your product and ruin a company.
CEO is the full staff 😂. DCS can only do this because they have less than 10 employees. If it was king's you can say whatever you like and they can't do anything about it
As above.. this isn't a massive corporate entity. It's under 10 employees (and I suspect but don't know enough about it) that the battery in question is just a rebadged Chinese wholesale/ drop shipped battery
I watch a lot of RUclips channels reviewing products sent to them free. Most just read the blurb on the back of the box and don't do an honest review of the product. There are some honest reviewers who know what they are talking about and are brave enough to call a crappy product crap. A DCS advert says they specialise in deep cycle lithium batteries that offer SIX times the battery life and less than a third of the weight of lead-acid batteries . That is a big claim for which they will have to provide prove from some credible expert. Law suits are expensive and the loser gets to pay the costs. By threatening to sue, the hope is that the financially stressed cannot afford to call them out. Just because DCS threatens to sue doesn't mean they will win. I was looking for a quality deep cycle battery from an ethical company. I guess DCS is not for me.
He has an unbeatable défense. There are three pillars he can stand on. Is it true? Is it fair comment? Is it in the public interest? While I’m not a lawyer I am a journalist and the same criteria apply. He can easily demonstrate these three things while they must prove malice. This will never make it to court.
Mate you are absolutely right, I'm aware of this and that's why I can't believe that it's even gone this far. They literally don't have a leg to stand on here. No malice, no untruths and certainly information provided in the public interest.
I remember in the late 1990's, Harmon Kardon produced something (I'm sure but not certain that it was a single-well tape deck) that received a poor review in a Hi-Fi magazine. I don't remember any legal action following that. What has the world come to? I also remember seeing a Hi-Fi magazine publish independent findings (including a two-page electrical equation) proving that Monster Cables were a scam. Again, no legal action.
For sure, and we have to be able to freely discuss things. The answers are often nuanced and measurements don't necessarily tell the whole story certainly not in audio, but you can't just go suing people because you don't like their opinion!
Ha ha, that made me laugh! Seriously though, ego is what brought us here and if those egos are still calling the shots, they'll probably run the company into the ground and blame everyone else for it.
One notable example is I think New Balance. I've known for years that we step on eggshells if we criticise them publicly on media. I can't remember exactly which of the companies it was after several decades now.
Hi, great points and comments on this, I have been following DIY Solar with Will Prowse for at least 3yrs he’s very informative and does good honest reviews. His review on said battery is still online and I saw it only yesterday it indicates at the time of writing this it’s 23hrs old so not sure if it’s the original post you saw but it’s a must see as he highlighted some good points on the battery as well as the bad.
So DCS gives him under bonnet batteries to test and after 3 years he finds the batteries are not fit after loosing a lassive amount of capacity and they sue him. WTF is wrong with this company. Anyway, screwed themselves now. Only a name change will save them
Feedback, as referenced in this video, SHOULD have been motivation to remove, improve and fix the product. Instead, the negative repercussions for this company by ignoring legitimate testing/feedback then proceeding with legal action is quite possibly enough to tarnish their credibility and possibly destroy their business. Very sad when actions such as these place the value of money before human safety.
Agree that DCS could have taken the higher ground and learned how to improve their product from this process. But what if this is true: what if these products are only profitable because they use salvage cells in their batteries with existing wear? What if they knew this from the get go? Maybe there isn’t anything to “learn” because they explicitly designed this product to have the profit margin it does by way of a deceptive tactic employed to deceive and rob customers of the normal cycle life of cells? Then there’s no way to make this scenario work because the company has been shady from the start. I’m not saying this is the case but it’s possible and if true, would explain a few strange data points.
Honest manufacturers of Lithium based batteries all have one thing in common they specify special chargers to suit them and research tells me that conventional charging systems as in Cars, Trucks and Motorcycles are not long term compatable with Lithium based Battery systems I have seen too many fail now to think otherwise. So if considering Lithium Batteries take note that the technology is relatively proven and safe as we see with so many things such as laptops and power tools if done right and as we also see with recalls not safe when not done properly . Or if used incorrectly as noted when placement in a safe environment is also critical as we see wuth cheap dodgy scooters causing dangerous fires and also some very expensive EV vehicles as John Cardogan has shown us among others exposing the dangers that have caused damage up to and including the loss of Vary large Commercial Ships due to the fire risk so many have glossed over.

@@LiquidAudio Yes. I don't know why Eric was so upset. I don't see a big deal. Erin just pointed out a small bump in the low-mid freq. response, if I remember correctly. Otherwise the Tekton speaker on review scored well, all things considered. Prior to this, all of Tekton was known for all the right reasons. Now some of Tekton is known for some of the wrong reasons. What a disaster. If I were a shareholder of Tekton, I would be calling for resignations.
Yeah that was literally a text book example of what not to do, as this also is. Erin quite liked the speakers, the review was pretty good. They didn't have a perfectly flat response, like every other speaker. There was no need to say anything other than "thank you for reviewing our speakers, we're glad you mostly liked them."
If any company tries to sue a youtuber because of some reviews. It definitely shows there are some rotten about the product or company
Looking at your workshop in the background brings back memories. Did my trade apprenticeship specializing in audio back in the 80s in a workshop just like that.
A couple of years ago there were other people who criticised the implementation of a new medical intervention and were also prevented from sharing their information with others. Welcome to the Brave New World!
This has already gone viral internationally and not in favour of DCS 😖
Apparently counter Sue is an option.
DontComeShopping with us🤣
DCS deserves zero sales.
Deep Cycle Systems (DCS) didn't like the real-life testing reults of their battery, so they
1. insideously changed the terms and conditions of the warranty
2. sued Stephan for telling the truth
Great way to destroy a company
Bad things happen to bad people karma be upon to them
I don't wish bad things upon DCS, but yes, they really have goofed here.
Good on you Mike, thanks for supporting Stefan.
It’s a terrible response from DCS and out of principle these clowns should be avoided based on their poor response notwithstanding the fact they are selling a product that doesn’t align with what they are purporting it to be.
You know a product is crap if there got to sue someone to hide the truth.
Huh?
Another DCS
In Oz
Sues a RUclipsr?
Irony in Australia
Deserves great satire!
Let the games begin!
Thank you for supporting Stephan Fisher .
It's truly been a pleasure, I stand with anyone in a position such as this.
I wonder what DCS’s accountant and bank manager think about their performance? That matters when they require funding for working capital to grow…
I know, it's just hard to imagine anyone with a clue sat down and said "This is a good idea."
The Australian Government has already done a review on CDS Batteries and they performed the worse of all batteries tested.
Thanks and quite right, I've had Will's channel linked in the description since the beginning and added a link to his video once he made it.
Yes that was Will Prowse, link to that video in the description.
D.C.S Systems. Logged in my data bank, NEVER buy anything from them, ever.
Could not agree more. DCS has scored an own goal with this and it serves them right.
Just on another note mate. Do you service vintage onkyo equipment?
Hi John, thank you and yes I do, as long as it is hi-fi stereo gear, not anything A/V related.
Love seeing all the other Australians that’re disgusted with DCS’ conduct
It’s had a Streisand effect in engineering circles im in; most didn’t know how bad they were before now and now no-one I know is willing to even consider their batteries
Didn't the battery co change the warranty details without telling anyone!
Yep!
They sure did.
Just paints the bigger picture
And backdated the change hoping nobody would notice.
Hey DCS people, loving all these positive stories 👍
Well said
the market is full of dodgy Lithium product…..
this lawsuit is insane…..
This is why early Nissan Leaf battery packs performed poorly in hot climates (later ones not quite as bad). Every other electric vehicle on the market has active water cooling.
Certainly no place for lithium under the bonnet!
Like everyone is saying, they made a mistake when they decided to sue.
I would love to see their sales figures for the summer now.
Definitely spreading quick, there won’t be many sales in Australia anymore. And especially from me. If they wouldn’t have started the law suit they would have been way better off.
Yes bizarre... more bizarre is believing a Lifepo4 battery can live without detriment within the heat of an engine bay....
there are some different chemistries under the lifpo4 subsets that allow for high and low temp conditions like Lithium Iron Yttrium Phosphate - LiFeYPO4 (LYP for short
@@LiquidAudio 👍 all good, just seems Itech have huge numbers out there doing fine as designed to do, as mine is.
Generally also requires malice and/or knowledge that what is said is untrue.
All I hear is a immature CEO child at DCS having a temper tantrum. Grow up DCS! (go change your diapers)
I will not buy the product now
He has an unbeatable défense.
I wonder if DCS are regretting taking Stefan to court?
Ha ha, that made me laugh! Seriously though, ego is what brought us here and if those egos are still calling the shots, they'll probably run the company into the ground and blame everyone else for it.
yep this really could turn around to bite DCS on the ass . People are fed up with companies bullying the little guy and suing whistle blowers
Thats really sad and unfair ☹️☹️☹️☹️...
Barbara doing her work .. just fine.. it's like an oil spill .. just getting bigger and bigger
One notable example is I think New Balance. I've known for years that we step on eggshells if we criticise them publicly on media. I can't remember exactly which of the companies it was after several decades now.
Thanks. Never heard of DCS before this story started. Now I know it all
Hi, great points and comments on this, I have been following DIY Solar with Will Prowse for at least 3yrs he’s very informative and does good honest reviews. His review on said battery is still online and I saw it only yesterday it indicates at the time of writing this it’s 23hrs old so not sure if it’s the original post you saw but it’s a must see as he highlighted some good points on the battery as well as the bad.
Thank you and yes I saw this new one, it has already been reported to RUclips by someone, I wonder who it could be.
Any publicity is good publicity, and D.C.S. are getting a lot of it!
Ummm, no. DCS is getting a huge amount of *BAD* publicity. Many potential buyers now know, do not buy.
If you are receiving a lot of flak, you know you are directly over the target
Will never purchase DCS products after viewing this
ahhh internets... unfortunately now an irish company under a similar name is getting review bombed.
Indeed and that is ridiculous.
Good on ya for supporting him👍
So DCS gives him under bonnet batteries to test and after 3 years he finds the batteries are not fit after loosing a lassive amount of capacity and they sue him.
Completely agree, they could have really strengthened their position by responding appropriately.
This lawsuit would cost them way more in lost sales than the money gained by the lawsuit.
Great video, thank you.
I agree this is quite certainly possible and someone in there knows the truth of it.
Thank you 🙏
G'Day , Been following this and DCS stupidity , spread the word and support all the non biased effort stefan has done with true long term testing , get it true long term , DCS go ef yourself and any products you have ...
