I`m retired now but owned a mechanics shop for 40 years.
80% of my tools were SK.
I was really disappointed when China bought them out.. Sk was apple pie USA for as long as I can remember.
I sold all my tools with my shop and started buying Sk for my home use and I`ll buy them as long as they say USA on the tool.

My 1/4" socket set is SK and 💯 made in the USA. I wanted to try their cushion grip screwdriver set 💯 USA made. A word to the wise, the older you get, the more you appreciate a cushion grip screwdriver. I wanted a cushion grip USA made screwdriver set. I didn't want to pay tool truck prices. They are comfortable. I have no complaints. Yes, it sucks that a Chinese company, Great Star, bought them out. But we live in a global economy. I'm just glad they kept USA manufacturing. They do offer a "homeowner" grade imported version that is offered on Amazon. Their professional line is still USA made. I just want to thank you for taking the time to clear the air about SK.

One thing they were not very clear on is that there are two lines of SK tools and only one of those two lines is made in the US. You have to buy "SK Industrial" tools if you want US made tools. If you buy "SK Professional" series tools, they are made in Taiwan and China.

I personally like Sk tools and always have even after the the "overseas" debacle. Its just hard to get their tools everywhere I have lived. For whatever reason a lot tool companies are still deciding to sell based off an insanely outdated tool truck philosophy. There are pros to having a tool truck that comes by the shop but I rarely get on them. Online shopping is just the way to go these days unfortunately.

I agree. SK sells often their website directly with some perks for its “pit crew” members. I have read/heard that they have 2 lines of tools - a professional (made in USA) line being sold directly and a consumer grade line that’s sold on Amazon. I don’t always trust Amazon to sell me a brand new blemish free tool anyways. so being able to buy direct from the manufacturer and get the best quality is a reasonable route to go.

I used to love SK tools. Still have whats left of my 1/4" and 3/8" green plastic case socket sets plus some ratchets and stuff. But when I needed a rebuild kit for a ratchet it literally took 6 months (no exageration Sept 9 2022 to Feb 26 2023) to get the rebild kit. Wasnt a huge deal I have plenty of other ratchets, but what if I didn't? I also asked how to get my broken sockets replaced , to which they didnt respond at all. The whole time I was waiting they didnt reach out to let me know when it was expected until i reached out to them first . Also before this I was pricing out some of their wrench sets because my employer at the time had several of their sets whicg i liked. At the time I looked and they were as much as Snap-on which is ok I guess, but I see my snap on guy every week. So if i have an issue atleast imI know i can get something done about it.
Sorry about the long rant and not trying to bash, but i was really a fan of SK. Now unfortunately I have gotten rid of most of it due to no support.

@@KoonTrucking-- Mr. Sanford said the pear heads are guaranteed to be USA-made. I don't think such a guarantee is worth much. In any case, the round heads are the ratchets that made S-K's reputation. I have two, one vintage, both USA, and I won't be buying any more. I did buy a ratchet recently, though, from Wright.
I appreciate that some people are trying to preserve S-K's reputation for quality USA-made tools, but I think the Great Star acquisition has done too much damage already. I have heard elsewhere that S-K now has "consumer" products with the S-K name. That means S-K is dead.

This video was like traveling back in time to see the SK of old. Is this old stock? who's making this stuff for SK in the USA? There isn't an SK factory in the USA, only a distribution center in the old PA shop vac plant. I'm also confused that when SK visits a tool show, it's heavy on the USA made stuff but, its Amazon offerings are mostly rebadged Duratech tools made in the PRC. what's the real deal?

For anyone that's VERY confused about the country of origin for SK tools since Hangzhou Great Star Industrial of China bought the brand, I'm going to explain it since there are a LOT of SK sockets and wrenches popping up that say made in China despite what this gentleman says in the video. There are two versions of SK's tools. There is "SK Industrial Series" aka "SK White Label" that are made in the United States, and there is "SK Professional Series" aka "Black Label" which are made in China or Taiwan. So if you've seen lots of poor reviews for SK tools on the big online shopping websites, it's because people are still buying SK socket sets and SuperKrome wrenches because people said they're still made in the US when they are not. You have to specifically buy "SK Industrial" tools if you want US-made SK products.

Are the screwdrivers and combination wrenches made in USA

The X frames were moved to China right away. I bought a bunch of screwdrivers in the transition period, looking for old stick. All but one were marked "USA." I take that as a sign that the screwdrivers will be made in Chins.

I love S&K! I have their 3/8 socket and Ratchet Set. IS their Swivel Head Impact Sockets made in USA also? I'm in the market for some. I am also, a big wright tool fan. But Wright tool doesn't appear to have much as far as Swivel Impact Sockets go.

I am a SK fan. like he said. my grandpa had SK sockets. ive got some questions. they mention the chrome sockets are USA made. but they mention that round head ratchet is over seas... why not put a USA made tear drop ratchet in the kits with the USA made sockets? I was looking at buying another SK socket set. it says its from china.... Would that just be because the ratchet in the kit is from china?

I thought Pratt Read made it for several brands, including Craftsman Pro & Armstrong. Now thats they're gone i wonder who makes it. Wilde?

@Jeffreysmith5280 The screwdriver is made by SK they were made by Western forge as were the Craftsman and Armstrong versions.
WF is closed and SK kept the design, they owned both WF and Pratt Read at the time, sad but both are now gone !

SK tools were always good tools that could run with the best. Their precision fine click ratchets had a much better feel than the other top brands. The problem was is that they never advertised or promoted their tools...most young mechanics have never heard of them. Horrible Freight has ushered in a culture of cheap pride-less tool buying has done a lot of damage to the good brands. I love SK, I'd like to see them do well. I'd actually like to design some ads or them.

I am usually all for American manufacturing, but not when profits go to China. No thank you. Plenty of other American made American owned options new and used.

You realize they now have SK USA where they still have manufacturing here. Offices here (that employ a lot of people) and pay taxes here right?
