I left the big city of Toronto to move onto 40-acres of Canadian wilderness with a magical river. I am building an off-grid homestead with multiple cabins and structures from the timber on the land. I may have made a huge mistake as doing this at the start of Winter in late November may make general construction difficult if not impossible.
To all my subscribers, STRENGTH AND HONOUR! 🫡🤝⚡️🐺🌲
JAMES ALOFS
Lets keep this channel real! Dont do Netflix!! Love it the way it is!!! 💜🕯
Warts and all.
Yeah this is as real as it gets lol
I totally agree.Don't do it. As soon as they want you to sign something you are scrued if you dont do what they want.
Moneys money get that bag James💵
I’ve thought about this very thing, I live a weird wild off grid life, pick a number that you have to make dollar wise to destroy your way of life. More than likely it’s so high no one will pay it-- problem solved..😂
Dude you are doing it perfectly. We are all loving it the way it is. Dont let corporate sneak in on your magic.
He was a major star in China making many movies. So he could be his own worst enemy if he ain't careful.
Absolutely!
I agree with other commenters, "DON'T DO NETFLIX." Keep the channel exactly as it is and keep moving forward with your plans. You don't need to be involved with Netflix they will ultimately screw everything up that you are trying to accomplish. You are doing an absolutely Brilliant job with your cabin. Love watching the channel and have been watching from the beginning. I live an Off Grid Homesteading life Vicariously through You James. STRENGTH & HONOUR >>>>> From one of your biggest fans- a Kiwi way down here in New Zealand 🤩🤩
Me too! Love what James is doing. Hawkes Bay, Nth Island, NZ 💚🌏💚
Yo, you should marry him tthen
Kiwis rule! Coming from a viking in Iceland ;)
James! Make yourself a ladder that hooks over the centre of the roof so you can slide it along as you work on the roof. Ooga booga!!
That's a great idea to I'd also add some form of safety tie off to a 45 degree roof and slick metal roofing need to be extra cautious
I think puppers is sending you a message, you dont need a Irish Wolfhound, you need a labrador retriiever!
Labs are best friends for life dogs. Our neighbor had one and she was the sweetest dog and always there.
@@alfredocarpaneto5976 I agree, but I'm slightly biased, I have 2 labs, and my mom when she was alive was a ckc registered kennel raising champion labsrador retrievers. Puppers seems to have taken a shine to wild homestead though.
Saturday morning? Check!
Coffee? Check!
Blanket? Check!
Recliner? Check!
Time for Wild Homestead!!!
Check😂😂😂
That's my Saturday routine
I woke up at 5, sad that the video wasn’t up yet 😭
The highlight of my week
Me too… every Sat morning!
This is just an appreciation comment. I’ve watched every single video from the start and I love every single one. Thank you so much for all the entertainment and taking us with you on your journey. The only thing I miss is the little dwarf that came and got you your ATV.😂 keep up the good work, brother and I wish you all the best
Keep doing your thing James no need for the corporate interests swaying you in any direction other than your own true nature. A happy middle ground may be having a friendly videographer (who you have lots in common with & gets the vibe) come & document more demanding days so you can just focus on building vs always changing your many creative camera angles which I’m sure most people don’t realize takes as much time as the task sometimes. Good speed sir!
The viking metal music and the girls in the yoga pants at the gym almost gave him mini strokes, had me rolling! 😂😂
James my dear don’t forget leave your cloths that you cook your meals in outside yr tent at night , bears don’t know you have no food in your tent but they will smell the food from yr cloths and they as you know can smell many miles away.😊 love your channel I’d hate to see your arm chewed off.
James, this is your channel and your story. We are privileged to be able to follow journey. Reality shows and manufactured dramas and I for one are throughly sick of them. Keep doing what you’re doing! Oooga booga!
Don't do Netflix keep it really and authentic genuine original creative and your own we need more truth in today's world not more production 😢stay strong brother 💪🏿
Oooga boogah. I’m actually hanging on every episode. Literally can’t wait for every single program. Keep doing what you’re doing. First the dog, then the magnificent wife and have fun making 10 babies.
Of course James will include us in all the "parts" on of plans
:D
Living a good life in suburban America, watching your journey with my son who only knows this life. Showing him what a great life looks like. 😊
It seems to me you already made your decision on the Netflix show. As much as we would all love to see you get more attention that you deserve, it would distract from the realness of your show as it is. Love what you do man! Keep it up!
That DJI Mini drone is awesome. I think you have unintentionally made the best ad for them over the past few months with the various accidents you've put it through 😂
Love the transparency. Most people won’t show all the difficult details. Thanks James. Saturday mornings are great
Consider a midsize truck with a small trailer, it’s easier to load your ATV and materials into a trailer than the bed of the full size, and you’ll save a fair chunk of change. Keep up the good work!!
And you can hook up the trailer to the atv and haul the load to the homestead.
My thumb is pointing down on Netflix. Stay the course! Thx for sharing.
I live in Michigan, so we often share weather. When we have a thunderstorm here, you have a thunderstorm there at the same time. So sometimes, throughout the week, when I see that some more extreme weather has rolled through, I'll think about you and wonder how you're doing with the rain/thunder/snow.
great ep... forget about the show and u do u. that's why we come here every week like clockwork.
MAY THE GODS BLESS YOU GOOD SIR! BOTH THE OLD GODS AND THE NEW 🫡🤝⚡️🐺🌲
Just a tip precut your Roofing rolls with a little extra you can always trim it off later it gets awkward with the big rolls on steep roofs
Anyone else holding their breath when he's up the small ladders 😮😮😮 uga boga...
YYYYEEEESSSSSS🎉🎉🎉😊
Buy a bag of barn lime for the out house. Its cheep. Sprinkle a scoop of lime after use. Flies dont like it and will kill smell. Wood ashes will help also!
Every bear I ever seen at my property was running away from me.
I love your persistence at task.
Find a blacksmith for your hinges hooks and latches. Keep up the good work!
Careful what you wish for.
I agree with all the comments... If it ain't broke don't fix it. There are 85k of us that have tuned in just the way you have been doing it. Keep this real!
Every week I'm amazed at how much you get done by yourself, move in day isn't far off now. Having a production company interested in your build is an awesome acknowledgement of your greatness, I agree that having a film crew there would be very intrusive and ruin the serenity of the homestead😊
Me TOO!!!!🎉🎉🎉❤😊
"I thought I heard a bear!", needs to be put on a t-shirt, hoodie and more so we can buy it...
Tell me you are an Outdoorsman without telling me you are an Outdoorsman. Lol, Ima start saying this randomly
Just as I’m about to go to bed down in NZ! SLEEP SHALL WAIT! WE HAVE BUILDING TO WATCH!
Watching from nz too
Same 😂 Another kiwi fan
Likewise here in Australia 😊
Same here in westeWestern Australia ... wish we cpuld build these here in oz
SI Kiwi here too. Seems odd it's colder there than it is here at this time of year. Loving the roof style it's really setting it apart from other cabin builds. Your a style of your own making James, keep your own uniqueness ❤
I love how honest James is about the things he knows and dosent know. It feels like we are learning with him and able to give our two cents to help him if we know something ourselves.
None of my business, but I hope you stick to being you and don't get Netflix'd. It is great observing you 'in the wild' - you could maybe get David Attenborough to narrate?
My wife and I have watched each episode. We have lived in the North for 45 years so we have a very real appreciation of your accomplishments. Living hard like that is not for the faint of heart. We love the way you incorporate your mistakes and your sense of humour. We take our hats off to you young fella!
Don’t allow yourself to be swallowed up by the corporate beasts bud, protect your peace and stay on the path, you are building something special👊☘️
As much as watching a show on your homestead would be interesting, I agree with you in that it would be too invasive into your personal life and the dream you have for your property.
Another thing that has been bugging me is the mess that your work area is in, all those off cuts from the lumber and plywood need to be picked up and either stacked/piled neatly off to one side or tossed into a bin of some sort.
Mainly because it’s a tripping hazard while you are moving around the area plus I dislike seeing wood go to waste, even if you can’t see a use for it right away. At least it will be collected up and put away until a use for it is discovered.
Love staying up on Saturday morning to watch the best series on RUclips.
Get the full sized pickup, you won't regret it...trust me, I've had one for 5 years now, best vehicle I've ever owned
We have a thunderbox, and use sawdust to cover the deposits - keeps the flies away. You’ll have loads once your sawmill is up and running.
You can copy angles with a bevel square. A chalk line comes in handy sometimes. An oscillating tool is also nice to have handy.
With that look at the entrance roof it looks like a Viking Longhouse🇸🇪 Hail the ancient gods!
As soon as you mentioned Shawn James I knew that you were on the right path. As far as geography goes you’re practically neighbours!!! He is the one that got me hooked on this off grid lifestyle. He really is the Dick Preanokie of our time. OOOGA BOOGA. Just finished my maple syrup infused coffee!!🤓😉
James has something that Shawn does not possess....a personality!!😮
@@MGE9436 wow!!🤨. So the only thing that makes James more valid than Shawn is his personality? Yes, James is more of an extrovert than Shawn (Shawn is a self confirmed introvert) but his strong quiet demeanour is exactly what this lifestyle is all about. As an extrovert myself I appreciate his quiet persona.
@@dsop66
Valid points.
What a compliment friend. Dick was the GOAT!
I have watched Shawn for years , he is a master craftsman.
Saturday night here in Bali. Cold beer after working on my own roof and relaxing enjoying watching someone else struggle through it. 🍻
Bear !!!!! Haha, that gets a guy’s heart racing. Wow, it’s looking great, love the angled over hang !! Tip :- when setting the extension ladder at 45 with the roof, drive a steak ( mini fence post ) at the base so the ladder will not kick out ( slide away with you on it ) As always you are doing a great job, enjoy and stay safe.
Saturday morning entertainment!
The scenes involving coffee are some of my all time faves. Crack me up every time.
It's my Saturday routine.. I watch your video then do my work around the house and yard
Thanks for posting
Don't forget to place an evergreen branch at the peak to pay homage to the trees you used for your structure.
One of the few youtubers, I actually watch from start to finish. I luuuuve it. Danish viking here 🖐️
As a carpenter, it gives me joy seeing the moment of realization when you figure out a problem. Keep up brother!
You dont have to adopt him because it appears that he has adopted you. lol
Im not surprised you listen to Hardcore history, that is a great podcast!
Keep up the good work on the Cabin! Its been so fun tagging along..
I think we all need the link to that Viking death metal playlist.... Ooga booga
You always go to school on the first one. That second cantilevered rafter was so much easier after learning on the first one. I'm surprised you've held off this long on getting a truck this long. Great progress. Thanks for the video.
Hi James, loving the channel. I'm a timber kit erector from Scotland and if I could just suggest one thing is get yourself a framing rig, it will allow all your hand tools to be with you as and when you need it.
Great job
FYI thunder box was designed and built by a Scotchman,
We scotch know our shit,
OOga booga.
That laugh when the maple syrup goes in the coffee - every time!
You are doing your own thing without having anyone riding roughshod over you. I love your tenacity. Love your videos, I wish I was there helping you. I’m following your videos and loving your progress. Keep up the good work! -everett
The sound of Thunder was pure bliss
Good morning team wolfmilk!
You're just starting to get your footing and that show sounds like a really attractive distraction from your war path. Hold strong to yourself and whatever god you worship. I love what you're doing.
The sawmill idea is honestly kind of brilliant. One thing I would add to that: try and oversize your water wheel slightly, that way you could hook it up to a generator and use it to not only power your saw, but anything else on your property. With the flow you have there, you could VERY likely generate all the power you'd ever need with a water wheel/generator and some battery storage. In fact I'd reach out to some of those home battery companies, they might sponsor you and you could get that stuff for free maybe lol
The sawmill, great idea, Good to see you back on form 😊
Bro geeking out at the gym is hilarious 😂. Fun watching as always.
That roof really ties the cabin together.
I absolutely love your mental strategy, I mean you have gone from the city to the middle of nowhere and you are absolutely making it happen! Much love and respect from the United States, keep doing what you’re doing! Best part of my weekend is setting down for a while and watching you learn and grow
Keep control of your creativity James.👍
Saturday morning routine - coffee and Wild Homestead! Love it!!
Heya James. On a Saturday morning I watch your latest upload. On a Sunday morning I watch Martijn Doolaard’s latest upload. THE two best channels on RUclips, IMHO. I understand the financial benefits of teaming with Netflix, also reaching a wider audience. It’s obviously nothing to do with me, but I would envisage your content being watered down, many boxes would have to be ticked also. I very seldom watch mainstream TV, because of box ticking, woke, pc etc. Whatever your decision, I can only wish you all the best. I can not fault any part of your adventure, your work. I have nothing but respect and admiration. Stay safe, stay James of Wild Homestead 👏🏻
My two favs, also! I also love Urban Rescue Ranch for a bit of chaotic fun.
@@cathylewis2181 Hmmm hey Cathy. I don’t mind a lil chaos, might check it out 👍🏻
Letting the rafters loose at the bottom worked like a charm! Great!
That drone is a little beast! I think he's earned himself a name don't you? Like Hermod: The Swift Messenger of the Norse Pantheon.
Love watching your Journey , cant wait for you to get your Irish Wolfhound ,as we say here in Ireland ☘️,Their gentle when Stroked ,Fierce when Provoked ,can't wait to see the finished Cabin
I love how honest and real your journey is, you would definitely lose that if a film company was there! Thank you for letting us follow your journey, it's been so inspiring.. Ooga booga ❤❤
Mid size trucks are great because of being compact and you’ll need a trailer to do most work, full size are great but you’ll end up wanting a trailer 2 weeks after you buy it.
Buy the truck that makes financial sense and a 8x16 or 8x18 flat deck trailer
No Netflix!! this is my fav Ch. "KEEP ON KEEPING ON"
Superb update James, ignore the Netflixers, you keep on being you mate! You'll be having 100k Subs very soon for certain! Keep up the amazing work!
Stay free in all aspects of life and business. I think you are doing better than they could do. Love the channel
Excellent job getting the prow of the roof. Nearly every problem in life can be fixed by slowing down and finding a different solution. 👍
Watching your videos make me happy.
Stay over here...do not go commercial you will lose your wolfmilk!!!!!!!❤
I watched this at 4am my time. Watching again. I was wondering when you would bring in your own saw mill. It just made sense. I admire how you’ve taken on this project with no real experience and are patiently willing to get it right, even if it means re-doing. The comments, especially from tradesmen, are the best. You have the best followers.
I totally get why someone posted in an earlier video that it's like waiting for the next Game of Thrones to air. Love watching this!
Oooga Booga!
I love that I get to start off every Saturday morning waking up and drink my aminos and greens while cooking a breakfast for my family and watch your content on my kitchen computer. Absolutely my go to Saturday and weekend start!
Always looks forward to Saturday. Episode premiers every Saturday around 3.30pm IST here in India.
Love every small details about the build, about how your day progresses. Thank you James for sharing your journey with all of us.
Love from India ❤🇮🇳

You could always build a temporary walkway/scaffold all along the side of the cabin. Then can use that ledge for doing the roof & disassemble after you are done.
Also, for your own safety, you really need to tidy up your work area buddy. All those offcuts, pieces of board and logs all over the place - you are going to trip, fall, or twist your ankle. While carrying a tool, you could impale yourself if you fall.
You could also invest in one of those ladders that folds and becomes a scaffold as well. Take care dude; you are doing awesome!
First thing I thought of waking up today was that I can’t wait to watch your video with a nice cup of coffee. Freaking love this series!
Ayyyyyyyyyy I've been waiting a whole week for this!
You were talking about the “thunder hole”. You can move the timber structure say 6 m away and connect with a sewer pipe. Therefore you will not be over the sewer pit and avoid the bad sewer smell. Need a water bucket to flush. So worth it .
To keep your ladder from sliding, drive some 16” pickets into the ground behind each leg of the ladder. To make things easier once you start the second side of the roof, drive pickets all along the side of the cabin and put some boards against them and you won’t have to keep moving those first two pickets.
Cabin is looking good…well done!
If you get a crew in to film, I’d probably wouldn’t keep watching it. I enjoy the novice building his dream home.just my opinion
True.
My favorite videos of the week.
No Netflix. It's perfect the way you present your show. And very real.
You do Wild Homestead your way. We would be able to pick out the formulaic way any reality tv puts things out. Although reality any challenges are made to look disastrous before a miracle fix! I love your content. It’s real and a pleasure to watch!
I stayed up for this
Congrats on making a decision to buy a pick up! Once you go, Truck, you’ll never go back. Wohoo!!
HI James
JohnnyMAC here
good to hear your getting a sawmill. I built my own home with a sawmill. nothing better than making your own lumber and timbers
Keep doing what you’re doing. One of my favorite channels on youtube! Exactly what you said… you go out there to homestead for freedom!
Let’s gooooooo
Giving up you independence for a Netflix contract won't be worth it.
currently off work with a broken back watched this series right from ep1 all the way through loving the content keep it up dont let anything ruin it
GOOD SIR MARSH, GODSPEED ON RECOVERY FROM YOUR BACK INJURY. WELCOME TO THE CHANNEL! MAY THE GODS BLESS YOU. BOTH THE OLD GODS AND THE NEW 🫡🤝⚡️🐺🌲
@@wildhomestead why thank you kind sir! keep up the fantastic work
You're the best dude...don't ever change. Just making my coffee here in the sailboat watching and listening to "oogo booga", thunder, crows, and construction groans. Awesome!
Your cabin is coming along beautifully, James. Please DO NOT do Netflix!!! We all love your channel the way it is❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😊
