In 1978 or 79, I went to a guy's house to sell him a Dynaco preamp he was interested in. The guy was a *serious* audiophile, in as serious a way as one could be at that time. How serious? He had cut holes in the floor of his listening/living room, so that he could sink concrete tubes through the floor into the basement, to provide "proper" enclosures for his two upward-facing 18" subwoofers, and they went all the way down to the basement floor. I know because I went down there and saw them. As we were chatting, he gave a sweeping hand gesture to all his listening gear, and told me "One day, all of this will be obsolete, and you'll get your music digitally, on a chip". I thought "Yeah, dream on, buddy", but the joke was on me.
I saw the documentary years ago - what a fine guy - and later I found out that he was seriously ill. It breaks my heart to hear that only his house was sold, but his incredible stereo system was sold at auction for peanuts. That would have broken Mr. Ken Fritz's heart, too. i could cry
I just saw the documentary and this video popped in recommendations, sad to hear what happened to him. This is why they say you come alone and leave alone. It's your own journey.
You will be sad to know that Ken is gone and his system was sold off piece meal for pennies on the dollar and thats the saddest end to work to build something and it go to absolute waste. Those 3 giant loudspeakers sold for next to nothing it broke my heart to see the final auction prices. RIP Ken some things take too long.
@@michaela.5363I’m not. I’m sure his wife wasn’t thrilled about his hobby. His kids probably could care less about audiophiles and just wanted some money.
$10,100 for the three front speakers. Pete at PS Audio said on paper they were better than his Infinity IRSV but he never got a chance to hear them. He heard they may have been dismantled for the drivers.
In my opinion ken Fritz was a wonderful people with big love for music , for the good side of humanity a bright star in our world in fiew words! A rare people! All times I will remember Ken Fritz with love and I will pray for him from far Greece! Ken lives in our hearts! ❤❤❤💐🌞 P.s. I have seen all videos about great Ken Fritz! 😊
His family was ok with selling the system? Imagine owning the complete system and sitting in the chair at the sweet spot and listening to a song. Knowing it was the life ambition of a man that poured his heart and soul into it. I hope someone assembles it all again.
The fact it was sold piece by piece for peanuts at a open house auction says alot about how his daughter and wife stand in life and with his legacy...or they have financial issues and had to sell quick, or they found it a burden to keep the system and rather sell it ...the thing that strikes me is the fact that the whole room is sold to a degree that nothing left ( even stuff that had nothing to do with the hifisystem was sold for penny's).
@@SuperScalemaster He was estranged from one of his sons and refused his call when he was on his death bed. They'd had an argument years before where the son said he wished he'd die a slow death. If I had enough money to buy his house with everything in it, I wouldn’t hesitate a second to do it. It’s a shame that his children sold out his life’s work, that too as pieces!
I can guarantee his wife hated his hobby. This is the type of guy that goes all in when he’s into his hobby. A lot of man hours spent building that room and audiophile which wasn’t spent on his wife.
That obviously was not complete whole stereo system somebody has the turntable somebody else has something blah blah blah blah blah family has the most valuable pieces
On a different note, from what i seen in the other docu, (google it) I have a feeling, he was not a very nice person to deal with. I believe his family took the brunt of his dogmatic ways and his obsessive personality. When he passed, all that stereo stuff reminded the family of who he was. I don't think he left a good memory on his family, he choose to spend time monkeying around with wires and speakers and old records than spending time with his children. The only thing his family can control after he passed was all that wires and speakers and "junk". I can see his older son saying, sell all that crap. At the end he got pennies on the dollar for all that stuff at auction. This mans dreams become another mans yard sale, sad.

"I'm happy. I created something." Wonderful attitude.
A absolutely amazing man. What he created is nothing short earth moving in the audio world. He will be surly missed.
To the fritz family my sincere condolences ken was an inspiration to millions including myself what a great man
One of the parts that hits the hardest is not long before he died he let it be known that he REALLY didn't want the stereo to be parted out.
An audio hero who created amazing sound by splitting the speaker frequency into dozens...

Quite sad, surprised his family did not want to keep it
That’s system is only unique to a handful of ears and only a small amount of those ears could even afford it or have the space for it .

Sometimes your worst enemies are your own family members.
Treat your family nicely, Ken was a nasty selfish person, this is the end result

I wonder how it feels to know that your sound reproduction system is better than any sound production system.
