He's right about the difficulties of being a musician on RUclips now. I gave up trying to play in live bands because it was such hard work and they still never got anywhere. So about a year and a half ago I decided to make myself an online presence as a musician instead of in the live circuit. But I came to RUclips about two years too late for that. RUclips's ten minute thing they have now is awful. Quantity over quality. So many of the new RUclipsrs coming up with all this boring, repetitious, unimaginative, contrived and just plain stupid drama channel stuff are able to exploit it, but I can't unless I start writing 15 minute epics that people would get bored of anyway and wouldn't listen to. And would take months to write anyway, no way I could do that three times a week. It takes me a month to write, record, and make a video for a five minute song. I've decided I have to do other material than music. Maybe I should start bullying people, the RUclips algorithm loves videos that do that.
+Ceolskog Yeah. Great musicians don't get views anymore. (David Choi, Nick Pitera, Kim's Grannis, Dave Days). It helps if your music career is basically led by a modeling career (Sam Tsui, Alex Aiono, Paint) but even their views pale next to the drama channels.
Hey, my man! Love your work! Sorry for leaving such a pessimistic comment on your video (I would never make bullying videos). But it can all get pretty frustrating, and yes it is sad to see channels by talented people gradually die out. Some awesome musicians like Peter Hollens still seem to be doing very well, but you're right, they really do pale in comparison to those drama channels, and it takes so much more work for music.
Well okay the music channels might not be getting the same amount of views the drama gets, but does it matter? This is like comparing someone with a good income to a millionaire. Not everyone can be the next Pewdiepie, but you don't have to make it THAT far to be happy or successful.
I mean there's still a lot of music channels out there that do well, there's still room for more. I mean someone with 100k or 200k subs will be able to make a living from it. There's so many people. I mean Leo Moracchioli recently hit 1 million with metal music and he's only been doing it for like.. a year or something. I see many others still growing. Secretly it's my dream as well so I'm going to work on it. You should too if it is where your heart lies. You will win it, if your heart's in it.
Well, RUclips is only a small and recent part of my overall struggles as a musician. But in regards to your central question; "Does it matter?" Well, I guess not. Overall, you're correct. But I think you may misunderstand my frustrations, and also I don't really understand your perspective. I mean, It all depends on what you're asking matters, really. First off, I never wanted to be the next Pewdiedie, and he is neither a musician nor a drama channel, and not who I was thinking of in regards to larger channels with undeserved success. I actually think he's quite funny and deserves his success. But there are certain other bully-type channels that will remain unnamed that....just don't.
Do you mean; "Does it matter to myself as an individual musician?" Then no, I guess you are right. I'm just one musician, and there are plenty more out there who are more talented and deserve success more than me, who aren't making it in RUclips's current cultural climate and could have if they jumped on the bandwagon a few years earlier. I disagree with you that just because your heart is in something you will "win it". Success is far more complicated than that. But yes, putting your heart into it is a small part of the overall picture, and is an element of success, and maybe I am losing my heart a bit.
But perhaps you're asking; "Does it matter what people enjoy more on RUclips?", as in all the drama and negativity. Then yes, because I suspect that it reflects the direction of society as a whole. I think it does matter, and it worries me. But then again, people have always enjoyed drama and negativity, remember all those gossip magazines? In that case, you're probably right, and maybe I'm reading into RUclips's influence too much.
But even beyond that....let me be frustrated about my situation and complain once in a while, okay? Yeh it's pathetic, but it makes me feel better. Anyway, I do admire your optimism and I wish you all the best as a musician, and hope it goes well for you.

Thanks for answering my question ( #19 ). I'm glad your open for suggestions, and I do hope to hear you sing the Full opening theme for Steven universe. The series is pretty good, starts out kinda slow, but gets better. They have a lot of great songs in the show, but that's to be expected since Rebecca Sugar made/writes for the show, he also writes all the music. If you don't know, she did a lot of the music for adventure time ( I also wouldn't mind hearing you sing some stuff from AT ).
