    The old classic video game series Phantasy Star takes place in Algol system. The triple star has four planets. Palma, Motavia, Dezoris and Rykros. A satellite in orbit approaching the planets every thousand years. It spreads evil, the Profound Darkness "Dark Falz". In the first game Alis, Myau, Odin and Noah fighting together to save the world from its doom :)

    Algol is a star system with such a bad reputation that it won't even let Anton show us the Roche Lobe effect in a virtual universe without going supernova.
    Bad Algol. Bad, bad Algol.

      xXx_PheonixGaming156_xXx it is the minimum distance for a large body of mass to reach another large body of mass without both being torn apart by tidal forces.

    Whether there is life there or not, I think Algol should be considered an enemy system.
    3:54 - "...a gorgon, which is sort of a Geek creature that is kinda scary looking."
    That's a hilarious understatement. It's like saying a nuclear missile is "a type of projectile that might hurt you a bit."

      so many charts of killers and people with MAJOR issues have major planets synchronised at birth on algol ( conjunct w algol)....Chris watts is a great recent example....and we have a HUGE list of historical characters...If you have ANY plents w an orb of 2-3 from ALGOL, watch out....be AWARE of it.

    The astronomy professor at my university (L. Jetsu) has dedicated his life to this star and written several papers (found in the adsabs database). He often goes on to ramble about it and how ancient egyptians discovered its period, even when the main topic is completely different. It's on the border of annoying and heartwarming. Interesting to hear about it from you though

    Hi dear Anton! Here in Germany it is 01.11 a.m., and in the first moment I thought: WOW, so is Mr. Petrov still awake too! Haha. :)
    Thank you for the new video! Algol is so interesting to me, because I read Lovecraft since I was a child, and in one of his stories Algol has an important part :) I still dream to fly to the stars, as I learnt in these stories. In these stories it happens, because they have to flee from incredible horror, but I admit, I would so so enjoy it. Sigh. Sometimes I feel as if I have a cruel thirst and cannot get some water, so much I long for this possibility.
    Have a wonderful fourth of Advent, my dear friend! I am happy you are around and care for us all :)

      TheRandomHat JF i should have said stationary. im not so stupid as to not be able to identify a plane. for me not working, i have all the time in the world to actually pay attention.

    • @therandomhat_
      @therandomhat_ 7 лет назад +4

      Michael Klos I'm not calling you stupid, you'd be surprised how many people mistake ISS, planes, etc. For stars, the reason I'm saying it was a plane because I assumed you saw it blink over one sitting, when Anton stated that it only blinks once every X amount of days. Sorry if it did come on as rude

    • @michaelklos7248
      @michaelklos7248 7 лет назад +2

      TheRandomHat JF its alright. when the nights are clear i watch the skys alot. living in rural areas the sky shows so much more than when i lived near chicago. I've watched night sky for years, noticing when the sun catches the occasional satellite passing by, or the faint dark signature of a passing airliner. the way the chemtrails affect the light of the sun and moon like a rainbow/soapbubble effect. most work during the day, so they dont notice the night sky, they're more concerned with what's on the tv before the call it a day to do it all over again the next day.

    • @michaelklos7248
      @michaelklos7248 7 лет назад

      but then again maybe it's a pulsar spinning quite quickly. its position stays pretty well lined up with it being an extrasolar object in that as night changes to day it moves with the rest of the sky while we rotate and as the year passes as we circumnavigate the sun, its starting position in the night sky has wandered just as the constellations do.

    I wonder if they collide if they would go supernova. It is an interesting question. Maybe they will just merge. A red giant has very, very low density. In fact so low, you could see right through it if it was not so bright. So the end effect may be that the heavy star just falls into a dense gas cloud.

    I have only one problem with the idea that the blinking is caused by one of the stars passing in front of the other and that is the speed I mean some stars are many thousand of times larger than our earth and as often as the blinking is occurring the orbital speed of the stars would have to be measured in light speed × many hundreds or thousands of times faster than the speed of light each one of the stars would need to be moving at several hundreds times the light speed in order to clause the blinking to occur as often as it does I mean this blinking is occurring every couple seconds this would mean that the stars physical make up must be many thousand times stronger than anything that we know of I mean give this some thought image the earth moving at the speed of light at this speed our atmosphere would be ripped apart and even the strongest rocks would be turned into dust due to the friction caused by the air rushing over the surface of the earth it would have a sandblasting effect on the whole mass
