The Flip 5 is mono, it has no aux socket, it is not BT 5.0, it has no mic so no phonecalls and the charging port is exposed. It sounds good but is a step backwards. The Flip 4 is the best speaker in the JBL Flip line-up till date, without any doubt. 9/10. Why only 4 1/2 stars? A 1/2 star off for being a tad too bright. I love my Flip 4 and the Flip 5 IS a step downward. Fact.

The *Flip 4* is still the best speaker in the JBL Flip line-up without any doubt, though the Flip 5 sounds marginally better... less bright. I got mine in India for $91 in November 2019 but the price went up to $110 after that and has pretty much remained there. (In India) The reason is, while the Flip 5 sounds good, it is not better... in fact it is a major step backwards.
. The Flip 4 is stereo, the Flip 5 is mono.
. The Flip 4 has a mic, it is an excellent speaker phone. The 5 doesn't have a mic!
. The Flip 4 also has a bass boosting feature. Press the Bluetooth and the Volume down button for about 10 seconds and you enter Extra Bass Mode.
. The Flip 4 ports are covered with a watertight flap. The 5 has them exposed. How waterproof can that be?
. Flip 4 has a 3.5mm / Aux In port. The 5 doesnt! Though it is BT 4.
The Flip 4 has a bright sound and a very tight bass and open mids. (I reduce the treble a tad, with my phone's eq, just a small step and it sounds perfect. For speech and muffled recordings, it is crystal clear as is. It also has 2 active drivers and 2 passive bass radiators. The Flip 5 has one active driver, however it charges via type C, sounds good and looks as good as the 4, though slightly larger.
The 3.5 aux input is essential for watching video without lag / latency. This speaker is a perfect blend of sound and size, portability, compatibility, style and ruggedness. It has an IPX7 rating and it lives up to it. Battery life is fine, not great, for either. The price, at $90 is fair. And if you can by any chance place it in a corner, it blows the lid off much larger speakers! This is a small speaker you will fall in love with, can carry around and never tire of! 4/5*. 1/2 off for the average battery and 1/2 off for being a fraction too bright. Flip 4 rules! **** 😊

Lets debunk some of your points.
1.) The charging port is exposed BECAUSE it is waterproof.
2.) The flip 5 is mono, so the speaker has more excursion.
3.) JBL themselves said the flip 5 sounds significantly fuller than the flip 4, and at max volume the flip 4 sounds earpiercing.
@@kalebhylton9446 Sure. I wouldn't put the waterproof charging port to test though. Stereo in that size is redundant I agree. The Flip 5 sounds better side by side sure and the Flip 4 is a tad bright. But 3 points are unarguably valid:
. The 3.5 / aux in port is essential to eliminate latency / lag in a BT 4.0 speaker
. The speakerphone is essential and fabulously useful... for me. For anyone.
. The bass boost on the Flip 4 makes a HUGE difference! Sounds as good or better than 5 after that
So, when I'm on a shoot I just cut the HFs slightly on my phone EQ and it sounds better than the Flip 5... excellent!
@@apusista I'm not sure what you call "bass boost" a good idea. even if you apply bass boost to the flip 4, then you have bass (that can drown out other frequencies) and ear piercing highs. The flip 5 fixes this and doubles by playing louder. (20W VS 8X2W) funny thing, my camo flip 5 came with bass boost on and I compared it to my old camo flip 4, that just sounds earpiercing whilst the flip 5 sounds full keeping some punch at max volume. I personally wouldn't use the speakerphone though. I desire quality calls.
@@kalebhylton9446 Sure the Flip 5 sounds better, but I need the speakerphone function. And the 3.5 port too, as I cannot bear videos being out of sync. The bass-boost /LF mode is not too much bass, it doesn't cloud the sound. And my phone has a built in EQ to take the edge off the highs. I love that little speaker! It also slips into my camera bag more easily than some lenses. The Flip 5 is bulkier and longer / taller and it should have BT5.0 but it doesn't so RUclips is out of sync.

Review after 5 months of usage - Go for Flip 4. Flip 5 has a mono speaker, it has a very boomy sound (sounds how you do when you speak inside a bucket or a small pot). Flip 4 has a natural, clear sound, good earthy bass, and the battery is really really long running.

We had a 1st gen Echo in our master bathroom for listening to music in the morning ruclips.net/user/postUgkxABghAEkaIDGZfHRBH3D3rBrlraNmnC71 and while in the shower. I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.

flip 5 has single speaker , whereas flip4 has dual speakers.

@thisisthelongestnamethoiamsuretobehonestguysandbye not max bass, its called "low frequency mode" that only push the low frequency tones on higher electricity voltage - means longer using may broke or demage your speaker.
