Everyone has a different taste in music. I love this version because I love that "childish voice" and that "nasal singing". I love how she puts her feelings into this song and how her angel voice delivers it in a completely new and innocent way. It's alright to state opinions, but maybe some people should think about the way they state it. I really enjoy this cover. Thanks to the uploader for sharing it!
I like this version. Why does everyone have to always compare the original to a cover of it? That's why it's called a cover! It's the modern times, have to make it more modern, no point of redoing the same thing as the original! Sheesh people, so critical!
This cover did and didn't make sense to me. It made sense because the original artist, Joni Mitchell, is considered one of the most female musicians of all time, so it makes to be inspired by one of her songs. It didn't make sense to me because this version completely ruined it. The entire Pop beat to it ruins the integrity of the song. Plus her voice lacks the emotional depth needed to properly convey the lyrics. Just my opinion.
+Lilah Zerambo Every generation's musicians feel the need to reinterpret the previous generation's "great songs" either through covers or full-on rewriting into a new song. The themes of humanity don't really change from one generation to the next, and musicians have a greater sense of the prior music - the very music that inspired them to become musicians - than the general population.
According to a certain wikipedia article the original singer/the writer of this song started touring with it after notable musicians started covering it.
I don't know what people are complaining about. I have heard the other versions and I enjoy this one too. A lot of people complain about new artists re-recording songs or sampling - honestly, there is a new generation who would never hear these 'classic' songs or like them if they were not re-recorded or sampled from. I used to have issues with it too but I have completely changed my mind.
The words "I really don't know life at all", is a confession that she doesn't know what to do in a relationship. She doesnt' know what to expect from other people in a relationship. She had high hopes and expectations, and was very badly dissapointed when the overwhelmingly beautiful relationship turned sour (hence the clouds) and then ended.
carly rae jepson is such a nice person. And shes one of few people who actually know what real music sounds like. I love her so much. Shes one of my rolemodels!!!
Its a beautiful cover of a beautiful song. expression is a tricky thing, judgement is easy, but in the end karma will eventually reflect negativity back to its source.
As a huge fan of the Judy Collins version, which was a cover of the Joni Mitchell version, I have to say that I love the way great music gets reincarnated every generation in that generation's idiom. It's fascinating and encouraging at the same time. Don't mind the "Old man yells at clouds" types; this constant reinterpretation is what keeps great music fresh and accessible. BTW, This is a great version, too.
G Nelson Judy recorded the song before Joni. Pop stars give away songs and write songs for each other to sing all the time. Prince wrote songs for the Bangles to sing. "A World Without Love" was given to Peter Asher by Paul McCartney.
Judy does the best job of capturing that recent loss of innocence that the song conveys. I think the beat in this version is out of place, but it still has its charms and her voice does convey some of that naivete turning to experience.
I never understood why people get mad over someone doing a cover of someone's else song. Like as long as they got permission and as long as they didn't just completely disrespect it by changing what it was originally about it should be fine. Besides it's not like the original is being replaced. Anyone who doesn't like it doesn't have to listen to it.
Carly Rae you have done the most updated version for sure of this song xoox I seriously love your music. It is as if you are singing from the other side of the clouds then Joni wrote it.... I also have always loved Neil Diamond cover of this song too. The meaning can literally be happy or sad! There is meaning of loss or walked through to the light 💖🙌🥂🥂🥂
As a massive Joni Mitchell fan, I was dreading hearing this when someone sent me the link... but y'know, it's pretty good. She's got a nice voice, sings it well, and the beat works and puts a nice original stamp on it. I know it's not a popular thing to say this because people feel the need to take sides but just because something's a cover version doesn't mean it's better or worse; just different. And you can like the new and old just as well.
Okay, now I am officially MAD!!!!!! DON'T YOU EVEN DARE TALK ABOUT TAYLOR SWIFT like that! I like her. She has an amazing voice, and considering she makes 50 million a year, and she has been doing this since she was 15 (she signed the record deal w/ Big Machine Records) @ 14 she was writing songs for other artists. She has a long career ahead of her.
I'm just gonna say one thing. Carly is not auto-tuned. I have been a fan of hers for 2 years now. I just saw her live for the first time last week, and she sounds just as good live as she does recorded.
I've looked at this song from both sides now from Carly's and Joni's and still somehow it's songs differences i recall i realy love both versions at all!
This is amazing. Haters, just go away! She's wonderful, and you are being so mean to her?! You know what? Just leave! If you don't like it, go anywhere but here! We don't need you!
When it comes to music I usually don't like remakes. I was alive and well when Joni Mitchell released the original. I think Carly Rae has done a great job of exposing younger generations to what I believe is a great song! Good for you Carly Rae.
I think it's hard to compare them because they are completely different styles. But I give her props for doing a cover of this song. It has such great lyrics.
First of all, "Call Me Maybe" did AMAZING. Everyone knows the song, everyone loves the song, whether they'd like to admit it or not. Call me maybe when you have a popular song that everyone knows. Second, she is NOT a brat one bit. She is so sweet, and down to earth. I've seen her live, she CAN sing.. her voice is unique, and beautiful. Her songs are catchy, and she just wants to make people happy. Third, why would you talk like that about her? She's done NOTHING bad to you. Byyyeee;)
The weather is normally used as a metaphor for relationships. Cloudy weather and storms normally mean that things are going badly. Sunshine implies that things are going well. Tornadoes can sometimes be a positive metaphor for a relationship being overwhelming. I think Carly Rae Jepsen is looking on her most recent relationship, that has just ended and lamenting at what she's lost. Most pop songs are about relationships, dating, pining and breakups.
I was alive and kicking when Joni Mitchell gifted this song to the world, however there is nothing corrupt with this version. Sorry to break it to you boomers and Gen Xer’s but we’re in the 2nd decade of the 21st century get used to it.
Joni Mitchell's version will always be the best, but can respect this version as well :) Shows that if she's going to make a cover, she chose a good song to cover. Got to give her props on that.
It's quite different from the original but it's a very nice version of this beautiful song. I like your voice and the instrumental part. (ofcourse best version is sung by Euson)
I like it. She played it at a concert at Cedar Point amusement park. I was surprised she did this. I could tell she has respect for Joni no matter what anyone thinks of the production (or Call Me Maybe?). I was probably among 1% who knew who Joni Mitchell is. I take songs for what they are. If I like it. I like it. I’d like to hear what Joni thinks about it. At worst she probably thinks it’s cute. I like it better than Counting Crow’s Big Yellow Taxi.
for real, I'm so sick of everyone hating on Carly's version when 70+ OTHER PEOPLE have commercially done the song. Joni wasn't even the first to record it. Judy Collins was AND she won a grammy for it! Joni didn't. and If you'd taken the time to see Carly's acoustic version, she acknowledges she's a big Joni fan and that she likes to sing this song. And she does the acoustic one live. I just don't get the point in wasting energy hating when you know you'll be bitched at.
Carly, you've found your niche! It's folk songs. This is the best I've heard, keep it up, folk is your genre. Especially the feminine folk. Try Scarborough Faire, Shenandoah, Celtic music, etc. PS you are incredibly easy to love! And your voice is SO feminine and sweet. I could have heard your voice and known what you'd look like, they fit.
Joni exposed her soul to us when she wrote this song - It's a song about illusion versus reality from the point of view of a dreamer. Even when experience teaches the true nature of something, the dreamer can continue to live with their illusions about life and love. The dreamer seems doomed to repeat the same mistakes by choosing to sugar coat the true nature of life and love with their own romantic illusion. Even this has a duality: you can look at it as being hopeful or unrealistic.
Don't forget Joni Mitchell's versions too, both the Clouds version and the 2000 version. Both versions, so different on so many levels. Totally agree with what your saying though, but definitely need to give the original author some credit too!
I love Joni Mitchell...I love her version from the album 'Miles of Aisles'. For all the people who that think she sings it too slowly, I would recommend this version. I love Joni and believe this will forever be her song xxx
i love this version sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! especially the pop beat
She kind of murdered this last night on Canada's walk of Fame awards. It was like a talent show rendition where you feel bad for the singer because you know they are trying but not real impressive for an internationally recognized singer.
the CD is Called Curiosity .. Not released in the USA yet Call me Maybe was on it, the lead song was to be Curiosity but when Justin B let the world know about call me maybe it took off like a shot.. They did not release the whole CD .. To be released in June ,its on youtube though ,, Check out a song called PICTURE also..
Beatles = true music, they did it because they were passionate. Carly Rae Jepsen = commercial music, she just do it for money and celebrity, she doesn't even write the words of her songs or make the music. She is famous just because she's beautiful. You can't compare them ! (and the beatles are ALWAYS famous, since 1957. Carly will be forgotten in 1 year...)
THANK YOU!!! I TOTALLY AGREE!! I have to admit I didn't know this was a cover until I heard the original (well. *a* version of it, i dont know much about the coverage of this song XD) in Love Actually and i was like WH..WHAT IS THIS?!? I love this version, in my opinion it's better than the other.
Everyone has a different taste in music. I love this version because I love that "childish voice" and that "nasal singing". I dunno, it sounds fine to me.
Meh.
Depends how good the original is to be honest
According to a certain wikipedia article the original singer/the writer of this song started touring with it after notable musicians started covering it.
I heard this version first, so now it's stuck in my head as the original, and I do love it
I don't know what people are complaining about. I have heard the other versions and I enjoy this one too. A beautiful contemporary rendition of a timeless classic - hat's off to Carly Rae.
Its a beautiful cover of a beautiful song. expression is a tricky thing, judgement is easy, but in the end karma will eventually reflect negativity back to its source.
i just (refound) an amazing song i havent heard in years!
She made it original and her own style that suited her. I support and respect that.

So great this version. Listening over and over. She made me a fan.
It's kinda nice how she turned such a sad song into a whimsical sounding piece.
I wish I could buy this on iTunes! I love this song!!!!

It's a good version, and it's cool that's it work with Carly Rae Jepsen style
I prefer this to joanee Mitchell

Love this song! Wonderfully fitted with the artist, an amazing take of an old classic.
I love her cover!
This was the first time I heard this song, so I thought it was her song :)
It's a cool song js :)
This is amazing. Haters, just go away! She's wonderful, and you are being so mean to her?! You know what? Just leave! If you don't like it, go anywhere but here! We don't need you!
Waiting for this song to be on iTunes so I can download for my daughter!!!
Your the best lyric video maker EVER!!!
Wow, u did a fabulous job with the lyrics! Good job :) And I looove her voice! Shes gorgeous!!
When it comes to music I usually don't like remakes. I was alive and well when Joni Mitchell released the original. I think Carly Rae has done a great job of exposing younger generations to what I believe is a great song! Good for you Carly Rae.
some type of calming effect...amazing :D
Fabulous this remixed version! Love it!
I loved Judi Collins version - but this tops hers - love the voice. Just beautiful.
I think it's hard to compare them because they are completely different styles. But I give her props for doing a cover of this song. It has such great lyrics.
beautiful........
I came here expecting a trashy remake...and I ended up actually liking her version. It's different, but still cool :D
i love how her voice is like a whisper, it just blows through the song like wind
I love this song. *smiles* Could listen to this for hours.
i know

I love it and Thank You!!!!!! Amazing .... I always knew there was something inside of you that was bigger than life. #1 fan

I'm a choral student and this version is not our version but when we study every lyrics it's just touch our heart
dont you wish you had a voice like that!! shes sings so beautiful
I'm usually not a fan of covers cause they get torn to pieces, but she did a pretty good job. I'll give her that
Carly Rae Jepsen is one of my favorite singers.
Stella Jee mine too
Same
First of all, "Call Me Maybe" did AMAZING. Everyone knows the song, everyone loves the song, whether they'd like to admit it or not. Call me maybe when you have a popular song that everyone knows. omg..this is the best voice I ever heard!!! ♥Carly Rae Jepsen♥
I'm all for updated versions of old, classic songs. There have been some amazing covers over the years. This is just sad.
This reminds me of love actually :D
Love it!!
Great take on this Timeless Classic
why is it so good
I was alive and kicking when Joni Mitchell gifted this song to the world, however there is nothing corrupt with this version. Sorry to break it to you boomers and Gen Xer’s but we’re in the 2nd decade of the 21st century get used to it.
Nice version
canadian covering another canadian
my friend did a dance to the original version of this song last year for our dance recital. you go alyssa :)
Moons and Junes 2024 here?
I've loved this version since 2012, I wish it was on Spotify
Cool version! This lady's got some talent! :)
Love this songs sooo much....i don't why i feel a tinge of sadness from within....this is what life is all about....thank you for posting!...
Joni Mitchell's version will always be the best, but can respect this version as well :) Shows that if she's going to make a cover, she chose a good song to cover. Got to give her props on that.
I know this song because of Hayley Westenra so decided to try this one
It's quite different from the original but it's a very nice version of this beautiful song. I like your voice and the instrumental part.
(ofcourse best version is sung by Euson)
I like this song. It made me like her even more as a singer. This song is touchy. Her voice sounds smooth, and nice.
you mean #1 best song ever? whatttt
I like this version, it was a pleasant surprise. But I think I like Hayley Westenra's version best. ;) Love you, Carly, you're vocals are great. :D
I like it. She played it at a concert at Cedar Point amusement park. I was surprised she did this. u took the words right out of my mouth!

Great original song Carly, keep them coming.
Carly has an AMAZING VOICE! Thumbs up!
i love the lyrics of the song...shows that life isnt a fairytale...and if love really does exist.
I remember when people used to love to hate this singer. I still don't understand why.
Because she's a loser bimbo cookie cutter. Time to puke now.
it was just a hate train
Not the best version out there, but considering that she took that big a spin on it without it being a pain in my ears, I kind of like it. :)
I like this so much better than the original! :)
Don't forget Joni Mitchell's versions too, both the Clouds version and the 2000 version. Both versions, so different on so many levels. Totally agree with what your saying though, but definitely need to give the original author some credit too!

love it! this is my fave song by carly besides "call me mabey!"
i love this song so slow and beautiful it really touched my heart. it is my second favorite song from her. nice song, thank you. :)
i love this version sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! especially the pop beat
it's an innocent song i so love it!!!!
The original is actually by Joni Mitchell. She's one of the best singer-songwriters ever in my opinion. You should look it up :)
she's soo AWESOME!!
i love the song
these lyrics are awesome
She kind of murdered this last night on Canada's walk of Fame awards. It was like a talent show rendition where you feel bad for the singer because you know they are trying but not real impressive for an internationally recognized singer.
she is just a legend. Her voice is amazing
She is amazing!

she is the best singer to "remake" this song. amazing voice :)
Good song form Carly Rae Jepsen , thanks!
I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH !
I love love love this song it's soo simple and her voice is so gentle
I'm not a huge fan of her as an artist, but not bad @ all for an updated version of a great classic song
Love this song... best one yet X
I've fallen in love with this song. Then again... I really don't know love at all...
