  • Today, we are excited to share with you the news about the establishment of the Auburn Alumni Association Broun, Little, and Teague Women of Auburn Endowed Fund for Excellence.
This Fund for Excellence is created to support the “Women of Auburn” strategic initiatives and has been approved by the Auburn Alumni Association Board of Directors. It aims to honor the legacy of the first three women who attended Auburn University in 1892 and paved the way for future generations of female students.
Katherine Broun was one of these remarkable women, the daughter of Auburn University President William L Broun. To become an inaugural female student, Broun had to take tests in English, Latin, history, and mathematics. She went on to become Auburn’s first graduate student after receiving her bachelor’s degree in 1894.
Another impressive woman was Willie Gertrude Little, the daughter of Auburn’s mayor. She graduated two years after enrolling at Auburn with a bachelor’s degree and honors. Little's legacy is honored with a hall in the Upper Quad that bears her name.
Lastly, Margaret Kate Teague moved from Arkansas to Auburn after her mother’s death. Along with Broun and Little, Teague was admitted to the university and graduated with honors. Her legacy lives on through Teague Hall, named after her, in the Upper Quad.
The “Women of Auburn” Fund for Excellence has been established to support strategic initiatives that empower and advance women at Auburn University.
We invite you to join us in honoring these trailblazing women by supporting this fund for excellence. Please visit aub.ie/bltfund to give!
