I'm watching this movie right now and just got to this scene and nearly died laughing. This may be the most '80s thing I've ever seen...and I lived through them.
the "Probe" game you can see at the top of Jesse's closet in some scenes was definitely a choice as well. as was the shot here that was right in on his crotch. this movie is violently gay but hey, it helped me realise I'm bi so it ain't all pointless I suppose
When Jesse walked into that gay club and met Schendier, I thought it was a dream, but then comes home late at night being escorted by the police. hmmm. Freddy Kruger presence in the movie, I never came away with Jesse being gay, I guess because he was attracted to Lisa.
*One of my favorite movie scenes of ALL TIME!* It just cracks me up and makes me feel good like I am a goofy teenager again. Also the comic timing and the POP at the end is perfect hahaha. PURE 80's magic. Also this is my FAVORITE 'Nightmare film' followed by 'Freddy VS Jason'
Friday the 13th Final Chapter guy in the shower made a gay comment about wanting paul to get in the shower and that he hoped he didn't drop the soap and Jason responds by smashing his hand through the glass and crushing the guys skull
Grew up watching the first two films - still really enjoy Mark Patton and the movie in general - feel bad for what he was put through but was glad to see on Scream Queens documentary that he seems to be more at peace with everything now. This song is on constant rotation at my house and it makes me chuckle, thinking of this scene, every time! Rock on.
Was he though?;how many teenagers go to meat markets frequented by men that they are extremely atracted to who they know wouldn't care if he changed his mind and couldn't go through with it
This scene is pretty gay, as a lot of people have picked up on. One of the sub-themes of this film is that Jesse (the main character) is actually a closeted gay or bisexual teen. But this scene also perfectly represents why the 80s were so great. Kids just dancing to fun music while they cleaned their rooms....there's an innocence here that I really love. These days, Jesse would have still been in his room, but tapping away angrily on his cell phone to text his girlfriend about how pissed off he was about his father....
Emmy Niinistö Maybe I'm just a symbol of everything wrong with my generation, but wouldn't the modern scenario you described be preferable? The main theme of this movie is that Jesse's a somewhat feminine gay guy who feels stifled and oppressed by straight male authority figures, which causes him to become resentful, and eventually, violent. Wouldn't it be preferable for him to be able to get it off his chest and express his frustration instead of trying to just distract himself with music and forget about it? (Which is the secondary theme of this movie and the entire franchise: trying to ignore the nasty sh*t in the world doesn't make it go away. It just comes back with a vengeance.) Nowadays his gal-friend would be like, "OMG awesome, I have a GBF now! I'm sooo gonna hook you up with my friend Rico. If your dad has a problem with it, like, tell him to screw off you know? Seriously, it's 2015!" Krueger would disappear along with the pent-up feelings he represents and the movie would be over right there.
That would not be preferable. The main theme of the movie is that Freddy is a freaky demon and he's coming to kill you. Cut the deep analysis with my Elm Street 2
+Subversive Untermensch he is expressing his frustration through music and ass bumping because hes gay and thats his outlet. its hard to compare things 30 years apart especially if you werent even born yet when this movie came out. i would argue that texting is far more removed emotionally than dealing with your problems through physical and musical expression. even if you are by yourself.
xt4k3nx Subtextually speaking, he's so frustrated that some part of him wants to kill all his loved ones. I don't think dancing like an 80s gay stereotype quite cuts it as an outlet in that regard. He needs some guyliner and a Marilyn Manson cd.
it's funny how much has changed. growing up in the 80s and 90s as a gay kid and teen, there was gay subtext in shows and movies, but today's gay youth is lucky to be growing up where gay lives are depicted openly on tv. I'm still happy to be a product of the 80s 90s though lol
I can only imagine. I'll never know. I'm heterosexual (but I can't lie and say I'm not a little bi-curious). Staying within the framework of the 80's (or at least the nostalgia and/or pop culture of the decade) take Stranger Things. I know there's some fan theories about Will possibly being gay. *Spoilers* When they have Will tied up in the shed so the shadow monster can't pin their location. Joyce (Winona Ryder) talks about Will drawing a rainbow spaceship when he was little. Now that could just be a coincidence. But I think the writers are saying "Yeah he's gay." in an incognito way. Also unless they just flat out give it away in Season 3, it's up for speculation. Just my perception gamble.
Ahhhhh the 80s vibe. I fucking love it. Although I was born in 86, my mom was just 17 when I was born and so I was always listening and watching stuff from the 80s my entire childhood. There’s no comparison to that era...

I'm thoroughly entertained by this movie. I think the way I am entertained is unintentional on the part of the movie makers, but I can't say that most things entertain me as much as this movie successfully does.
