I love her humbleness but she is well deserved of this merit. We should give her all the accolades she deserves now and not when she has long passed. She has proven so much in her career and brought so much pride and honor to the Philippines.
Sana, bukod kay Ms. Lea ay magawaran din ng National Artist recognition this coming year 2025 ay si Mars Ravelo na creator ng Darna, Dyesebel, Captain Barbell and Lastikman.
Even Ms.Lea deserves to be called”National Artist”she humbly say she consider Dolphy for the recognition! If it is from Ms.Salonga it will surely happen like what happened to Ms.Nora Aunor!👍❤️🎭
She checks all the criteria: The following are the qualifications of a National Artist of the Philippines: 1. Living artists who have been Filipino citizens for the last ten years prior to nomination as well as those who have died after the establishment of the award in 1972 but were Filipino citizens at the time of their death; 2. Artists who have helped build a Filipino sense of nationhood through the content and form of their works; 3. Artists who have distinguished themselves by pioneering in a mode of creative expression or style, making an impact on succeeding generations of artists; 4. Artists who have created a significant body of works and/or have consistently displayed excellence in the practice of their art form, enriching artistic expression or style; and 5. Artists who enjoy broad acceptance through prestigious national and/or international recognition, awards in prestigious national and/or international events, critical acclaim and/or reviews of their works, and/or respect and esteem from peers within an artistic discipline.
Ms. Salonga truly deserves to be a National Artist. The body of her works continue to showcase her dedication to the art of performing. She is an exceptional talent, but beyond that, her whole being as an artist is an embodiment of pure dedication in promoting pure Filipino artistry.
Madam, National Artist ng Pinas, hindi National Artist ng UK or USA. Lea Salonga excels in Broadway and West End musicals. But are West End and Broadway musicals a reflection of Filipino culture? Gagang 'to!
kung promotion pala ng Pinoy artists on world stage ang basis mong kafutahan---eh i-push mo sina ARNEL PINEDA at Apl.de.ap na maging National Artists, vaklang 'to!
@@vortexmind5015 First of all, cursing doesn't prove the validity of your point. Filipinos have more class than that. To reiterate my point, Ms. Salonga's promotion of Filipino excellence follows the path of the Great Nora Aunor. Both are recognized around the world as excellent artists. Both have promoted local talents and the film arts industry itself, within our country. Both are humble and very classy in their own way. Nora was a phenomenon in the Philippines before she was slowly recognized around the world. Leah became a world-wide phenomenon and have gradually become great promoter of Filipino history and local talents not only in the Philippines but also around the world.
@sirdoctolero shunga, focus on selection criteria for National Artist, read it, and not your emotional pleas on promotion of Filipino excellence. Basahin mo criteria for NA, hanapin mo website ng NCCA, at huwag mo ako dramahan. All criteria must be met. Then ask yourself if Lea cuts the class, ok? Nakasulat ka nga in decent English, so malamang may capacity ka to analyze. ALL CRITERIA MUST BE MET, basa!
With all due respect, that's looking at an artist from a very limited perspective. Ms. Salonga represents a global talent. We live in a very different world now. Philippines is now a major contributor of exceptional talents in Media and Performing Arts. Lino Brocka and Miss Aunor's body of works started this trend. Phenomenal Filipino artist with world-wide recognition. Ms. Salonga can match her qualifications, and perhaps Ma. Brilllantes Mendoza.

Well said!

True marami pa no ! .. concert and stage play lang ginawa niya compare to dolphy Vilma Maricel etc !
She definitely is a hard-core artist with humility that's lacking in other wanna-be's.

I agree.

At her age now, it would be better to give way to other deserving artists. If this is the case, I agree with her.
She deserves it, and her humble response to this issue just proves that she will in no doubt become one. In my opinion, she already is.

Dolphy deserves to be a National Artist. Kung may pagpipilian sa mga singers, sila Pilita Corales, Celeste Legaspi or Sylvia La Torre.
Definitely! too bad, he's already no longer with us.
She is deserving!
Dolphy is in a diff category..
She's an international artist. National Artist is for those who stayed in the Philippines.

at BAKIT kna man gagawin NATIONAL ARTIST..?
tulog ka ba? huy gising 😂
I agree with Lea because I think Jose Mari Chan deserves to be called National Artist more than her.
National artist? No way!
Hirap nga daw syang mahalin Pilipinas eh
