Dave, you deserve more than 4k subs and you will get them. Keep doing what you’re doing. We love it and appreciate it. Cheers.

@@DaveDenyer Btw, totally with you on the Dan and I can't state it better. The Dan is of the head and not of the heart. This is why I have no Dan vinyl and doubt I ever will. My vinyl MUST speak to my heart. Which 90s grunge definitely does. Which Tool definitely do. Which late-50s bebop often does.

Congrats on the 4k Dave💛 'Reelin' In The Years' got me hooked when I was 16, Rock Beer Cellars....., happy days. 'Gaucho' came to me, at the right moment, on a poor quality casette tape. It is one of my go to albums, always, so cool. There is an incredible amount of work goes into these labours of love of yours🌞 Long may you and your viewers flourish. Love and Peace to you all, Steve

Thanks Steve. Any comparisons with other copies/editions? I have the Masterdisk RL in mint condition, played only once (it was sealed) and a promo of the same Masterdisk RL in very good condition. Just ordered the UHQR and expect to do my testing as soon as I receive it. I have also the Back to Black and Canadian editions.

Mine is very noisy in the run-in grooves on a few sides... 😥
But, the actual music is fine and I really love the music on this album.
I started listening to it this year, I'd never heard it before, because I knew this release was coming out and I was only going to buy it if I liked the music.
I do... great album, phenomenal sound. The music definitely grows on you.

I have had a couple of Steely Dan record with noisy run-in and run-out grooves on all four sides. Not what you expect with a uhqr release. But the grooves with music was fine.

Congrats on the 4000 subs Dave glad to be one. Great review as usual. Are UHQR going to do Two Against Nature and Everything Thing Must Go in the series I wonder.

Thanks Mike! I'm not sure whether Analogue Productions will give the latter two albums the UHQR treatment... My gut feeling is not.

Like Dave, my feeling is that they would not. With that being said, the Analog Productions 45 RPM/180 gr of both of those titles are very premium. Just as premium as any of the Atlantic 75 and with Stoughton sleeves. They sound fantastic! They're $60 each, but well worth the money for the quality. IMHO, they are essentially UHQR without the clarity vinyl and that's my opinion on the Atlantic 75 series, as well; the UHQR play just a little bit more quiet.

@@DaveDenyer I know $60 for a record is a lot of money, but when you compare it to the UHQR, it's a bargain!! Don't get me wrong, I love the UHQR, I'm not complaining as much as I am bragging on the A75 and others such as the last two Steely Dans.

Luckily my UHQR of Gaucho is silent, unlike my Miles Davis Kind of Blue. Such a great sounding album, but like you David, not exactly an emotional piece of work, but definitely a sonic beauty! Great review, Cheers

I contacted them after my Kind of Blue wasn’t up to par and they replaced it. I got these SD records on UHQR and it verified that KOB was flawed. The new copy sounds better for sure.

I love this album. Very tempted but after I bought the Lamb and Selling England and then being sent another import duty bill I’ll pass. I do have 2 copies of this fab a;bum and both originals. They sounds great.

It's important to factor in the import costs when comparing direct from Acoustic Sounds prices vs UK seller prices.

I’ve always found Gaucho to be a superior sounding record to Aja, which has always been touted as the ultimate audiophile record. Not that Aja isn’t awesome, but I think Gaucho is sonically superior. This UHQR is spectacular!

No... I definitely do not think Gaucho is Soundgarden 😁 Head and Heart, good comparison Dave. I'm just a tad surprised that you didn't have any thoughts about how the sound compares to the superb original...??? I thought you would give your usual excellent, thoughtful insights about how they compare, but no... A bit odd, since I would THINK that a person (like me) who has like 3 original MCA pressings that are among *THE* best sounding records in existence, would need quite a compelling reason to spring for the $170 or so for this UHQR 😊

    • @DaveDenyer

My 'original' copy of Gaucho has long gone, because I simply didn't play it often. (to be honest I can't remember what it was - probably a UK 1980s reissue). I certainly didn't buy it new in 1980. Back in 1980, I was pretty much only listening to prog!

My first copy was - apart from the stunning sound - very noisy... Like a constant crackle on all four sides, even after cleaning. I requested a replacement, but that had the same problems. Clarity Vinyl seems like a very mixed bag... It seems to cause more problems than it solves. Too bad, Gaucho is my all time favorite album, so I really wanted this to work out.

    • @DaveDenyer

To be honest, I always clean every LP when I first acquire them, before first play. This applies to both new and used LPPs. So, my copy of Gaucho has been cleaned (a combination of Clearaudio Pure Groove on a Loricraft vacuum machines followed by 5 full cycles on a Degritter MkII).
      Thanks for the feedback.

I'm not a fan of the UHQR Aja mastering. I prefer my original RL copy. To me, it's more musical.
But to Gaucho, I must have given away my original, but I've compared the MCA Audiophile 1/2 speed mastered edition with edge UHQR (yes, my copy's noise floor is not as quiet as I'd like). Tonally, the UHQR is smooth as a warm knife through buttah, while the MCA is, at times, too bright (but it only really bothered me a few times). The UHQR's bass is tighter and more pitch specific than the MCA's. But the MCA is more dynamic. Its transients are a bit quicker and it's punchier. The syncopation in the arrangement of Time Out Of Mind with the brass and snare hitting the syncopation is heard and felt on the MCA. It's more polite on the UHQR. The UHQR is an easy listen, but the MCA is more exciting. Both have huge soundstages and flow well. The star of the UHQR, for me, is Third World Man. It breathes with the 45 treatment that the 33 can't touch.
The UHQR doesn't use the original master tapes, instead, using a Robert Ludwig EQ'd tape. Perhaps it was tuned more for the average turntable at the time.
I figured that when I bought the UHQR, I'd be selling my MCA Audiophile. Nope. They are both good for different reasons.
