  • In this video I tell you about an actual event which happened as I went about my business in Bangkok. I had an altercation with a Bangkok Motorcycle Taxi Driver. The advice in this video is. . .If you have any kind of altercation with a Thai in Thailand, just walk away.

I've heard so many times about people damaging RUclipsr's equipment - often intentionally. Good to hear you maintained your composure and avoided a potentially bad situation.

Loving your channel great to hear that beautiful fellow Dublin accent .
I first been to Thailand early 200's as a young Thai fighter fell in love with yhe place and have been out many times i was an accomplished Muay Thai fighter at the time even then i had to bite my lip as i understood it could go very wrong as i had seen in my visits over the years .
I remember one time a british guy been killed on Bangla rd he had hit a thai with a botttle and the rest is history i still now in ny 40's like to think i can handle myself but in Thailand where locals are involved i walk away .
Just aint worth it your a farang at the end of the day we have ro remeber this at all times .
Delighted your safe great content im planning to be out early next year .
Best wishes keep up the good work .

Hey Dave . Sorry to hear that happened to you , but just write it off as a bad experience. The $60 buck light is not worth the troubles it could have brought you. Remember your there almost every night and so are they. Not worth the future hassles that could come from this. If you see him again , just write it off as an accident and patch things over. It'll serve you better in the long run.

I was watching your video on Thai being a tonal language and not having plurals and noticed an interesting use of “my” vs “me” I’ve noticed on a UK dating show. When I searched “Do Irish people use me instead of my?” I found “It’s not really a case of them using another word, but rather a difference in pronunciation. In many dialects, the pronunciation of "me" and "my" just happens to be the same or very similar.”. I found another article that suggested the use of “me” instead of “my” was based upon old English. I’m guessing Irish is based upon old English. If so, do you by any chance know if “me” and “my” were interchangeable in old English or if there was no “my”? Examples at 29 seconds and 178 seconds.
I really appreciate your insightful views into Thai culture - car status, wage examination, work demands, class system, food safety, e-bike transportation, and language, WOW! It would be great to see a go-pro mounted view of driving the e-bike and how the e-bike is secured when using it as a vehicle to reach public transit.

Thank you for your comment. The use of "me" instead of "my" is common in Ireland Australia, New Zealand and the UK. The Irish language has no relationship with English. But in Ireland English is the 2nd official language after Gaelic.

The people in the market tolerate you walking around filming young girls in order to make money. You need as many people on your side as you can get. The broken light was your opportunity to make friends with some of the local thugs, 1000 baht would have been a small price to pay. Now you are a marked man, although you probably have been for some time.

  • @khlongtalk
    @khlongtalk Год назад +2

So I actually live near the market and I can tell you having walked up and down it myself at night it can be extremely narrow and busy. Sometimes its easier to walk on the road than the "pavement" especially around the fish stall bit since the pavements are soaking wet. You have the "blind" folk walking up and down it really slowly and they randomly stop causing a hazard. Random soi dogs etc. It can be a nightmare.
With all the filming you do around there it was just a matter of time before something got broke.
Some of the taxi drivers seem to have a massive chip on their shoulder for some reason and they can be a pain to deal with. I try to avoid all taxis if i can tbh. Anyway my point is Bangkok in general is a super busy place no matter what time of night it is and these things can happen. You just have to accept it as an occupational hazard and move on. No point in trying to get 1000 baht out of a taxi driver its like drawing blood from a stone.

Concerned that you are getting into more and more altercations in Thailand. Situations "doing my thing" recording girls in the night market. A video from from you recently reflected that you feel you are drinking more than you should be. What direction is this heading for you?

07:40, yes, you should have just walked away and not even say anything. You unnecessary jeopardized your life for 1000 Baht. Not worth it in my opinion. You did everything wrong for someone who lives here for 10 years already.

Thank God things didn't escalate further!
Be happy your loss was just a 60$ light.
At least you got a video out of this story.
    On a more serious note:
You have got a lot to lose.
You have a wife and a child.
And imagine the young Thai taxi driver backing off from a 60 year+ Farang (I know you dislike the word but that is what they will call you)
If the taxi driver concedes he will be ridiculed mercilessly.
If he fights you his mates will come to his rescue.
If police is involved there will be 5 times more witnesses on his side than yours.
There is 0 upside to arguing and fighting.
But the negatives can be fatal (literally)
I empathize that as a man that believes in law and order and justice it sucks that the taxi driver will get away with it but in every place on earth there are positives and negatives.
To get the positives (for you) from Thailand it comes ith this particular negative unfortunately.
And a 60$ loss compared to physical hurt, jail time or even fatal consequences is not bad in the grand scheme of things.

At 5:27: 'If you get involved in an altercation with a Thai...', you say, but he abused your property, he assaulted you. He picked an argument with you. You don't say what happened with the police.
Yes. What a wonderful life in Thailand.
Can you reassure your viewers that the Thai police are there to look after foreigners as well as Thais?

Keep it cool bro, you might even have solved the matter initially with a smile. Thais don't accept any raising of voices and anger in public, with one another and particularly with foreigners. Loss of face is hugely important in their culture. Have a great day

Ok, it was an accident,he didn't mean to break it. He handed it back to you,he smiled.
He didn't smile because he broke it.
He smiled to lessen the impact he accidentally caused.
This is cultural, your response of agitation was confrontational. A thousand baht to him you asked for was a lot of money to a motorcycle guy..
You were lucky to calm down.. eventually. But it was touch and go,he was getting into a combative stance. Be careful, particularly late at night, filming.
      When is your bedtime?😋

You`re using a public space to film your contents sooner or later you`ll run into those kind of people who thinks you`re a public nuisance to those places. You have to understand that most of those people can`t understand what you`re saying or doing in such a place and it`s better to accept the fact that they`re there everyday because of their jobs and you`re in their way even you`re not bothering them in any way but still doing a film content there could have ticked them off in some way! (゜.゜)??
