Beautiful hammered silver !!!! Good on you, John !!! I'm surprised that you couldn't remember Ferdinand Magellan. Truth is, he died mid-voyage and his navigator, Juan Sebastian Elcano completed the trip. Drake did it in 1577-80. His ship was originally named the Pelican. He renamed it mid-voyage.
I well remember spending pre-decimal currency in my childhood back in the 1960s, I was most upset when they took away the 3d, the 6d, the half crown, and the ten bob note! In 1969, when I was 10, I got a George III half penny dated 1806 in my change in the greengrocer's. It was given to me as a Penny, because the coins reduced in size, during the great recoinage in 1860. 55 years later, I still have that coin on my keyfob, here in the USA, - I like the irony, (it was holed when I first got it).
Hi John, brilliant finds, just an idea, how about getting a box like a tackle box and put all the things like batteries into it and keep it in the car so you don't forget anything, cheers!!!🥰😘👍👍
John, remember to replace the battery in your pinpointer and to leave another one in your van. I bought some rechargeable ones off Amazon, each has a little USB connection built in. I can even recharge it in the car.
Great finds John When I saw that round piece of lead I wondered if someone encased a special coin in lead to conceal it ? No one would want to steal a lump of lead, it would be extra weight to carry around but I think it would be safe from theft. Humans do strange things to keep valuables safe.
A wee bit of birthday luck carrying over to your finds today maybe? Except for the cow 💩! Those were some truly crackin' coins. I hadn't ever heard of the Golden Hinde, so I looked it up. According to "the Internet" a hinde is a female red deer. 🦌
Put notes on your phone to remind you to restock your stash of batteries and other necessities. My memory gets me into trouble so I'm often making notes.
Didn't know Vicky was still spendable in the 60s! Didn't even know she was spendable when George the Vl reigned. I pick up so much knowledge from your channel. When did George the Vl go out of circulation?👍🏴
Hi John, I remember her coins in NZ circulation in the 1950,s when I was a boy. We only got our own coins from 1933,before that it was all English ones.
It's true that Victorian pennies, and occasionally halfpennies, could be found in your change right through to decimalisation in 1971. I still have many found then in my coin collection. But that hammered eclipses them all. Very well done!
John My father joined the RAF just after the war after being under German occupation during the second world war. He progressed to the King's Flight and met the the King and Queen. He was in the procession in the King's funeral.
What a good day for you, John. The patina of the coins are spectacular, that must be sandy soil. The hammered coin is stellar, and I was glad that it wasn't broken. I hope you get out in this field again soon.
Hello John, I'm really enjoying your videos, so amazing what you find left over from centuries ago. I always wonder who the last person was who handled the coins or pieces. Take care and keep on digging. Cheerio the nooo, Elizabeth
That is one sweet hammered coin, it's like Edward is watching you! That coin is about 720 years old, incredible. (some of the London minted coins are valuable, less so, those from Canterbury), yours is after 1279, (a recoinage date), but obviously before 1307.
John, I swear im going to send you a checklist for your gear to use before you even get into the car and a detecting kit that has backups for your tools to help you out. What size batteries for the carrot stick? i will send rechargeable ones and help you out. Much love lol
Lucky you can remember the days before pinpointers, so you could always go old school… unlucky it was freshly manured, 😂. Nice finds today with the hammered!
Drakes ship Pelican was renamed Golden hind as a tribute to his Sponsor for his journey. Much Much Later British football clubs learned that Always a first😜
Hey there. I was wondering what metal detector I should upgrade to in the future I'm a Vanquish 540 user (it's pretty amazing). I'm just looking for some suggestions
First it’s a heck of a day metal detecting, lots of coins and especially the hammered. Yep supposedly Ferdinand Magellan was the first to circumnavigate the globe, congratulations on another hammered silver there must’ve been quite a spill there the rest of it’s down deep only a few pieces coming up now and then you need to get a deeper metal detector and find that horde….. because they keep coming out around the same area. Another great episode. Thanks for sharing. See you on the next one.👍🏼👊🏼p.s. you really can’t carry a pocket knife in Scotland or you get arrested.????
Let’s go let’s go treasure and adventure 🌎🎉💕👵✌️🇺🇸🌺

Excellent stuff buddy. So pleased you were rewarded with the Long Shanks silver penny, although damaged, an excellent find. Bless 👊

My husband was an auctioneer and to remember everything he needed he got a canvas bag. Everything he needed went into the bag with extra batteries.
Lucky you can remember the days before pinpointers, so you could always go old school… unlucky it was freshly manured, 😂. Nice finds today with the hammered!
Congratulations on silver. Great video
Excellent John! Thank goodness your hammered coin held together! Would the Museum or owner of the field, want that one, or can you keep it? :)
Nothing like detecting and the pinpointed dying so you have to dig thru cow shit 😂 so funny! Great finds!
Drakes ship Pelican was renamed Golden hind as a tribute to his

It seems the soil and farming practices have been kind to those coins. They all seemed to be in brilliant condition.
Great day, congrats on the hammered! 👍🏻
For goodness sake! @Regtons - send him an MI-4 or an MI-6 pinpointer so he can join the rest of us in the current century with a rechargable pointer 😆

First place 🥇 well done! Enjoy the video
I tried twice in the first 1:30 to wipe the cat hair off my screen. Then I realized they were power lines! LOL Congrats on a great day!
I always put a stash of batteries in the car at the start of the season to keep me going, I hate it when the pin pointer dies.
You got a like from me when you dug in the cow shit lol nice hammerd coin, none of those here in canada
Enjoying your videos! Could you tell me what is the blue object on the shaft of the detector?
Will you be posting the Jethro Program?

Anything that has a replaceable battery, you should keep replacements in your bag or vehicle.
On the lump of lead...was that a cart wheel on the back or a bit of Pareidolia?
Always carry a spare battery 😊
Happy belated birthday we are 👀
Many thanks Rob! Enjoy the video
I found a king George the 1 farthing lol I was freaking out too and I’m in the colonies lol
