As a United States Marine Corps veteran..... watching your reaction to opening the flag, and getting its significance (Especially immediately saying "Don't ever ever let this TOUCH THE GROUND!) made my heart swell with pride and brought a HUGE smile to my face! If you haven't figured it out yet.... us Yank on this side of the pond, not only love your family, but we consider you one of us at this point!!!! :)
My Grandfather fought alongside the Yanks in WW2 and sometimes said,......after some whisky " American boys never quit, their Country is their Queen, their Flag is their Crown,. and may God Bless em ".......
And may God Bless you Brits as well! Your Grandfather was correct, we don’t quit, in a way I guess you could say our Country is our Queen though that’s why we fled England and fought for Independence from….., and truly our Flag is our Crown. My father was the other side, a US Marine in the South Pacific fighting the Japanese, I myself am a US Army Cold War Veteran 1983-1986.
Atlanta, to answer your question "Why us?". It is because you and your family are Americans at heart. You and your family have shown us here in America and those around the world what TRUE Americans really are. Although you were born in NZ, your love for America is what makes you an American at heart, and THAT is why it was sent to you.
So True, after all America is an Idea, an Idea that all men are equals regardless of Nationalities, Ethnicity, or Religion. The Idea that all men should be free to be anything they want to be. We have learned many lessons through the years and we havent reached that penacle yet. But we will one day.
That moment when he said "never ever ever let this touch the ground" made me choke up ... knowing some americans let the flag touch the ground and still ask why it shouldnt touch the ground 🤦🏻♀️ we all know that that flag is in good hands with this amazing family. You guys deserve it ❤
Yes, and we call those Americans that allow the flag to touch the ground "dumbasses". On more than one occasion I've had to snatch up part of a flag that was touching the ground and explain to the aforementioned dumbass exactly why it's never supposed to touch the ground. Yeah, it has to do with Francis Scott Key and that National Anthem thing. If people died to keep the flag from touching the ground it's the least they can do.
@@MykeruMedia I see tattered flags, I see flags in the rain, I see flags in the darkness...but, I don't call my fellow Americans "dumbasses"...GROW UP and learn what respect actually is! It's the people behind the flag, not the flag itself. Disgraceful comments here...no clue what it's all about at all, just reciting the "rules", but zero regard for the humanity. you disgust me
Y’all. watched the origin of our National Anthem and you know the significance of why True patriotic Americans never ever let the flag touch the ground. As a USAF veteran it almost burst my heart with Pride on the respect y’all showed my flag, Thank You
As a US Navy veteran, I salute your entire family for the amount of pride and patriotism you gave to YOUR/OUR flag. I as well as many other brave men and women are honored by your love for that flag. Thank you , and may God bless you all!! Virginia, USA
That flag is one of a kind, one of one in the world. The next time an official government flag will be flown over the capital on the 4th of July in honor of NZ will be a long time. The fabric is designed to be flown outside, but I’d fold it correctly and store it extremely well until the next 4th. Edit; This flag is most likely made by Annin & Co and also please take great care of that authenticity document. This flag will become worth a lot someday, and for insurance purposes, the document should be just as important along with the envelope it came in.
@Erik Rafter My grandfather was a Colonel during WWII in the liberation of France. They went through a town somewhere and a mother and her children had hand made by candlelight in the closets in the middle of the night an American flag and a British flag. After they secured the town he went back and asked if he could have them. My uncle has them now. I consider them sacred objects because of the risk that family took to make them and the love, hope, and thankfulness that went into it.
@@mycroft16 I think it would be great if you could do the research to identify this family that made the British and American flags and then will the flags to a WW II museum so what they did could be properly recognized. On the other hand it's such a special thing I wouldn't fault you for keeping it in your family, but it's just a thought. Keep in mind that information on the donor and your story would become part of the exhibit.
That is such a HUGE honor for you guys to receive that flag...It couldn't go to a better family..and plus we from America do appreciate your respect for it...God Bless your family and rest assured you are Americans at heart..
WHY IS IT AN HONOR?! Because America is some amazing, great country?! Hello, have you opened your eyes the past few years?! We are the literal laughing stock of the world
@@FunnyNickolacho Right. Jamie doesn't seem to understand why so many people around the world want to come here. They will often even risk their lives to get here.
Hey Jamie, just because our media and politicians divide the citizens with ease, doesn’t change how amazing most of our people are and how great of a country we live in. So kindly leave if you don’t like it here.
US citizens can request a flag from their congressmen or their senators that was flown over the capitol building. It takes awhile to get one, but you will get one. And that flag is authentic.
Atlanta asked "why us?" When opening the flag. I understand it completely. You show such love, reverence and respect for the US in everything you put out. You've all actually made me tear up a few times with you. Many here take this country for granted. It breaks my heart. No place is perfect but I'm blessed to live here!
A gift of an official, previously flown American flag in one of the greatest gifts that could ever be bestowed. Your family deserves it. It is an honor to share our flag with you.
This is so unbelievably arrogant. What makes an American flag “one of the greatest gifts that could ever be bestowed”?! Do you realize how that makes you sound?! Ridiculous. It’s an embarrassment. Stop holding America up on such a pedestal. It doesn’t belong there.
@@Hey_Jamie You know, without the USA you wouldn't have 90% of what you currently have. We are far from perfect, but we try. We've put forth more effort in 250 years than many countries have put forth in 1,000 years. And to us, our flag is sacred. So a gift of our flag is not to be taken lightly.

There is a program where flags are flown on special flagpoles over the capital and those flags can be purchased through the office of members of Congress. Each flag comes with a certificate. It's called the capital flag program.
The flagpoles that fly flags for specific people are off to the side of the main flag pole on the West front. There are 4 main flag poles on the Capitol. Two are over each chamber of the building, one over the Senate wing and one over the House. Those flags are only up when either of them are in session. If you see the flag flying, that particular house is in session. The light under the Statue of Freedom is only on when either are in session as well. The other two are on the east and west fronts of the building. The one on the West front also has the POW flag below the American flag. Those flags are flown 24/7
My family is from Puerto Rico and Mexico and we love this country more than anything. To see such an amazing reaction to our flag and such high reverence for it was amazing to see. Owning a flag flown at any significant location by any significant public servant is a truly important and historic flag for any country. Awesome gift and your loss of words is completely understandable. A 4th of July party is the appropriate way to celebrate 🇺🇲
Yes! You should throw an absolutely _epic_ Independence Day party, starting with the raising of the flag at dawn! (Too bad that July 4th is in the middle of winter for you, down there, as big outdoors picnics/BBQs are the rule here in the U.S.! There is an 'official' way to fold the flag, so that you end up with a triangle, and you can buy different styles of triangular display cases for the folded flag.
I own the flag flown above the FOB my dad was located at in Iraq for multiple years. He was the oldest contractor there and received it out of respect. It's a sandy faded tattered flag but not bad enough to be destroyed. My family cherishes it
I am from Texas and it sounds like something my senator would do. If it is true. I am very pleased of his decision to give you a flag that we flew on the 4th of July. I wish more Americans loved the country like you seem to
After hearing so much from certain quarters within the U.S. about how the "rest of the world" hates us, we are humbled and honored by your family's sharing in America's spirit of freedom and strength. May God bless your family and the great country of New Zealand and grant you peace and prosperity always.

When my father died, a Korea and Viet Nam veteran who gave his life to the US Army, we were told by Fort Sam Houston that we couldn’t get a caisson and that no horses were available for military honors. We were very upset because my dad had asked for a military funeral and we promised him he’d get that. We called Senator Cruz and he made it all happen. My family, who didn’t vote for Cruz, will always be so thankful. We got a full military funeral thanks to Cruz, including horses, caisson and 21 gun salute. I can’t begin to say what that meant to us.

I served on the flag committees in both elementary & high school. I'm from Tennessee & a school teacher in the same school. We still teach it today. Loved how much respect they have for our flag.
@@salemkitty5786 Also, if a flag is tattered and worn it should be saluted, and respectfully lowered for the last time before being burned with equal respect. What my father (a veteran of the Korean War) has normally done is solemnly sing the Star Spangled banner while watching it burn with his hand over his heart. If you do not have a place where this can properly be done, then the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion also accept flags for proper disposal.
US Air Force vet here. Loved your reaction to the unboxing of the US Flag. That piece of cloth you hold in your hands is the very symbol of Freedom and Pride that myself and countless other veterans and their supporting families have served, fought, bled and died for to protect our beloved home land and it's people. The proper way to dispose of a retired flag (read that as, damaged beyond its usefulness, usually from wear and tear) is to burn it and this is the only time a flag should touch the ground. An all weather flag is ok to be left up on the pole all the time, as long as it is lit up at night. It can also be left out in the rain. That's ok. The flag was flown over the United States Capital. That doesn't mean it was up there for very long, but it was put up on the pole, left to fly for a few minutes and then brought back down to be gifted. What I would do, if you will take my humble suggestion, since this was a special flag, flown just for a specific cause (read that as, not many more like it) is to keep it in a display case in your home with the certificate. The flag you have is one that probably can't be replaced. You can get a flag display cases just about anywhere online like Amazon. They are triangular in shape. You fold the flag into triangle shape and if you did it right, when you are done, there should be 1, 3 and 5 stars (depending on how big the flag is) displayed out of the glass side of the display case. It's ok if it's not perfect. It's harder than it sounds, actually. There should be 13 folds in all. Representing the 13 original colonies. The ball at the top of the base headquarters flag pole at a military installation is called a truck, just for a useless piece of information. There is a myth that inside the Truck are a few items. A bullet, a razor and a match. The myth goes like this... If the base is ever attacked and over run, the last person alive is supposed to climb the flag pole, unscrew the truck, take the razor and cut the flag from the pole. Use the match to properly burn the flag so the enemy never has a chance to desecrate it and then use the bullet (there is supposed to be a firearm buried 6 paces from the flag pole) to usually end the person's life as a final, you'll never take us alive, kind of maneuver. There are different variations of this myth and it's taught to us enlisted people. If it's really true, I can't say. All of the Trucks I've seen are solid metal and don't unscrew. But it's the symbolism of the story that matters most. Long read in this post. Hope you got something interesting out of it!

Most any citizen can request a flag that has been flown over the US Capitol. The request goes to a member of congress from the state that the citizen resides in. The flag is flown for a fairly short time to accommodate all the requests. It's often requested to honor a recently deceased veteran. Our local hospital has one such flag that it sometimes flies on It's own flagpole in remembrance of one of its most loyal volunteers who was a veteran of the Marine corps. He would visit every patient asking "has anyone told you today that they love you?" And answer his own question with, well, I do and God loves you too!!" We miss Major Mac.
The flag is our most cherished symbol of our nation. All the brave people who defend it each and every day hold it dear beyond anything else. What it represents is the most valuable thing there is. I am from Texas.

I am sure you have probably heard from someone but I am going to post this just in case. The flag comes from the Capitol Flag Program. Basically, a US citizen contacts the office of either, one of their Senators or one of their Representatives to Congress. In your case, Rodney being from Texas, contacted the office of Ted Cruise, who is a Senator for Texas. Once you put in the request, you then have to wait for a flag to be flown over the Capitol Building. Then they will send you that flag and the certificate of authenticity. I think it is amazing that he was able to get you one flown on Independence day. There can't be that many flags flown on that one specific day. This is really a great patriotic gift.

I teared up as well as you guys. That was so cool and sweet for Roddy to gift you guys a USA flag. You can buy a flag display case that’s triangular in shape(they may have other kinds). I swear to everything above I was teared up when I watched him read it out loud. So cool!
As a matter of fact I just googled it again and saw one that has the top being the flag display and the bottom was made for certificates or whatnot. I’m not sure if it’s made together or separate and the display case was stacked on top. The certificate would need to fit inside the other part.

Although you were born in NZ, your love for America is what makes you an American at heart, and THAT is why it was sent to you.
Very good statement, sir.
So True, after all America is an Idea, an Idea that all men are equals regardless of Nationalities, Ethnicity, or Religion. The Idea that all men should be free to be anything they want to be. We have learned many lessons through the years and we havent reached that penacle yet. But we will one day.

This flag will become worth a lot someday, and for insurance purposes, the document should be just as important along with the envelope it came in.
my boy scout troop has a flag with 48 stars that was flown above the capital
There is a program where flags are flown on special flagpoles over the capital and those flags can be purchased through the office of members of Congress. Each flag comes with a certificate. It's called the capital flag program.
Awesome.. And the person who sent it to them was lucky enough to be able to purchase the one that was flown for New Zealand on July 4th.
Amazing.
It's a very special honor to receive one of these flags...
So the answer to his question "did you have to purchase this or do you know someone" is "both".

Anyone can get one via the Capitol Flag Program. Contrary to popular belief, your Senators and House Reps work for YOU! Contact them and request one. 🇺🇸
Not true, anyone can request one.
All you need to do do is request one from your Representative or Senator. They run flags up and down the US Capitol's flagpole all the time to fulfill the requests for such flags. The 4th of July would have been a very busy day at the flagpole.
@@TedBronson1918 there is actually a guy with a full-time job and a flag pole on the roof of the White House out of public view and that’s all he does is run flags up & down that pole. There was a news story on it once that I saw.
I know that my US Representative has a place on their website where you can put in for a request to get a flown flag, but I would imagine there is quite a list every day. And to think that one person on this channel, was the one who got a 4th of July flag, and sent it over, is truly humbling and a wonderful destination for it. You deserve it more than many Americans do, who use them as pawns for their political gripes and dishonor and abuse it. Thank you so very much for your love, friendship and respect. A lot of good people died for that flag, and I think I speak for most Americans on here, that we are very thankful to see one in such wonderful hands! God bless!
I have served with Kiwis in Afghanistan and loved them. I thank you guys for being some great people, and thank you for respecting our nation and out Flag. Love our Kiwi friends.
“Never ever ever let that touch the ground” ❤️ thank you for the respect your family continues to show our nation. I can’t wait to see your visit videos one day when you finally come
Most any citizen can request a flag that has been flown over the US Capitol.
Wow, what an incredible man. I know he is greatly missed.
Such an incredible family. To get that flag that was flown at the capitol on the 4th, you guys are deservedly held in very high regard!!
The flag is our most cherished symbol of our nation. All the brave people who defend it each and every day hold it dear beyond anything else. What it represents is the most valuable thing there is. I am from Texas.
That… was the best shaky emotional excited reaction I’ve seen in a long time from someone receiving the American flag. Let alone the short shock you had just reading the certificate at the start. Truly loved that reaction, reactions to everything else were genuinely cute too so I didn’t forget about the rest of the video but I did the first 3 times watching specifically the flag reaction… then remembered there was an entire recording prior to that moment.
Watch your reaction to the flag was amazing. I’m a Army Vet and had tears myself. I loved the don’t ever let it touch the ground means more to me than anything
Your reaction to unfolding the flag brought tears to my eyes. Our flag is very special to us, almost sacred. Proud you know to never let it touch the ground. Y'all are Americans at heart🇺🇸
I got tears in my eyes watching how much y’all love our great flag. GOD BLESS YOU AND GOD BLESS AMERICA AND GOD BLESS NEW ZELAND.

Your family’s love of all things American is truly humbling. You’ve brought new excitement to things I’ve taken for granted. Luv and respect to you all ❤️❤️
Both my dad and my grandpa served in the Air Force and my cousin is currently in the army. To see the flag and the certificate of authenticity is amazing. Your reactions were incredible and the way you all rep the US from across the world brings tears to my eyes. And the comment about learning to fly the flag is beautiful. I'm glad you all got this flag. You deserve it! Honorary Americans in my eyes. Also to Little Man, I'm from Cincy! Who Dey!
Lots of love from Texas❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 I just love you guys y’all are the perfect family Great job ‼️‼️
Love the respect you show to our flag especially as a marine vet that served with the New Zealand army in training they are the upmost professionals you all are a truly amazing country much love can’t wait to go visit
Roddy, your so awesome to share our love of our country with folks across the seas who truly deserve it, thank you. NZ Family, I loved your honest reaction to the flag, very special, I love watching your family and thank you for sharing your lives with all of us. Hugs from Arkansas!
What a beautiful, well-deserved gift. The person who sent it must be a wonderful person as well. I am so proud of our flag and our New Zealand family!
Thank you for showing the respect for our flag that you showed. You said don't ever, ever, ever let this touch the ground. As a veteran I thank you. You are showing more respect than a lot of Americans and most other countries. You Sir have my respect. Thank You.
13:25 Simply contacting your Representative or Senator’s office can usually do the trick. I had a flag flown over the US Capitol requested by my Representative when I earned my Eagle Scout Rank.
I need to get one from Marco Rubio or Rick Scott, Maybe even try to get one from DeSantis
That's true. My representative Pat Fallon has a "request a flag" tab on the home page to his website.
Same here, but my representative was a former member of my troop, so he got them for any scout in my troop who attained Eagle. Nice to know other Eagle’s got their own!
@@dontron4877 If you get one, it would have been flown over the Florida Capital.
@@jwrockets I'm totally cool with that XD
The flag is such an amazing gift. My son won a fifth grade state essay contest on the American Revolution many years ago and he was also awarded a flag that flew over the Capital as well. We had the same reaction as you all did. As Atlanta said learn how to fold it the correct way for display. There are also special flag display boxes you can get to keep dust off of it and never display in direct sunlight. Measure your flag before you fold it to get the right size display case. Thanks Sam for recognizing that it is to never to touch the ground.
I absolutely LOVE how much love and admiration and interest you have in my county. Its unusual and I LOVE it. Enjoy our flag and cherish it for ever. It is an honor to have that. I hope you guys take a good amount of time to come to america and visit this county in depth. I LOVE living here. Thank you for your continued respect for the USA.
Yay! What a privilege to have an authentic July 4th flag!! Congratulations and love your videos!
Oh my gosh, that gives me chills with the flag. That is so awesome. I have tears too. I'm so glad to hear that you understand never let the flag touch the ground, some Americans need to learn that. Love you guys. Love from Texas.
Thank you for holding our flag with such respect.
I am sick as a dog right now, you guys made me feel way better and put a smile on my face.
Truly love how your beautiful family has embraced America as well as other countries through your channel. You have also allowed us to embrace New Zealand too. You are so deserving of that awesome flag that was flown on July 4th 2021 at the U.S. Capitol for New Zealand! As always, thank you for being you and sharing.
I don't know of any family deserving of American citizenship than yours 🇺🇸As a son of US Marine in two wars, your care, respect, and appreciation of our flag is so heartwarming. Come aboard Yanks❤from California 😎👍
I swear I was almost as happy & shocked for you as you were when reading that Certificate and seeing that flag!! What an honor to a wonderful family!! Thank you for sharing your time and family with all of us!!
Seeing your reactions to the flag made me tear up... You guys are true Americans at heart and deserve the honor of keeping safe our flag that was entrusted to you!!!
As an American Army veteran and 22 year career Firefighter (retired) who comes from a long history of military family members, to include my son who is actively serving in the Army now himself. My wife is the daughter of a retired Army, Vietnam war veteran. We as family are obviously proud of country. It is absolutely AMAZING to see a family, from across the world in a completely different country, who REALLY get it. Thank you so much for your respect and gratitude. It is families like yours that make what we do, all worth it. God bless
Ok, I went from all smiles to tears in a matter of a second. What an amazing gift you all got and your reaction was absolutely wonderful.
We here in America have opened our hearts to the New Zealand family, and I am pretty sure you are an American. It's not about the country; it's about the people and their hearts that are Americans! Welcome to the family!
I couldn't agree more!!!
I have to admit I'm chocked up over the flag right now. Thank you for loving and understanding this country. Y'all are officially honorary Americans at this point.
You have shown the United States more love and respect than may born and bred Americans.
Thanks again!
Love and respect from Oklahoma USA ❤ 🇺🇸 ❤
What a beautiful family . The love you show towards America makes my heart warm .
Definitely brought tears to my eyes watching your reaction to receiving the flag. Humbling. They should air this video across the country during primetime nightly
I teared up as well as you guys. That was so cool and sweet for Roddy to gift you guys a USA flag. You can buy a flag display case that’s triangular in shape(they may have other kinds). A lot of families get those for flags given to them from passed away loved ones that have been in the military. Mom had one I think from my grandfather or my uncle. I’m not sure which. Just Google flag display case.
That's a good idea. Especially as those cases can come with special glass that will prevent the flag from Sun fading.
My dad has one from his grandfather♥
Believe they are all triangular considering how the flag is meant to be folded.
@@sarahmckee3914 I wasn’t sure if there was another kind. I thought they were all triangular in shape also. I believe that is how they are to be folded. Plus they can get the certificate of authenticity framed. How nice that would look hanging behind them as they make these unboxing videos. I am so happy for them getting that flag.
Your family gives me hope. From a combat veteran ❤️ Hugs from OHIO
Wow... the flag got me! It's amazing to see a non US citizen have respect for the American flag. I absolutely love my country and am terrified what radical ideology & policies are doing to it. Your family is beautiful and I love that you do RUclips together. ❤🇺🇲❤🇺🇲
Thanks to the unpatriotic Democrats!
@@mikewrasman5103 Don't bring partisan garbage to this space. We're all Americans. Democrats, Republicans or any other party less represented.
