@@TooTall_hikes There are some clear streams in Berkeley County, but the rivers tend to run muddy. The little creek adjacent to the hwy 52 trailhead, which is where the Swampfox passage ends, used to be a crystal clear, spring fed, swimming hole prior to Hurricane Hugo. Sometime thereafter it was decided to not maintain it and the swimming hole is now filled with junk. In fact, the hwy 52 trailhead was across the road from where the current trailhead is now and was a roadside park known as the Canal Recreation Area. It was decommissioned about a decade ago. It had vaulted toilets, benches, and grills.
Hi TooTall 👋 I came across your channel while researching this section of the Palmetto Trail! I moved down to the Myrtle Beach area just over 2 years ago and haven’t done any substantial hikes since doing the 48 high peaks in the White Mountains of New Hampshire! Your channel name brings me back to my trail name of “Peesalot”! Though I haven’t done a lot of hiking I do still pee a lot 🤷♀️🤣🤣 I appreciate that you posted this video. I hope to embark on this journey soon! I have subscribed and look forward to your adventures! 👍
Thank you for Subscribing. Wow that's pretty cool that you've hiked the Whites. That's very impressive and I Love the trail name 😅 I also look forward to watching you as well. Happy trails..
@@TooTall_hikes I have some of the summit videos on my channel but you have to scroll WAYYYY back! My channel is over 12 years old and it was about that long ago when I earned that patch!! Of course I have hiked some of those peaks a few times over the years. My favorite is the Franconia Ridge that takes you over 3 peaks. Thank you for following back! I hope to have some Palmetto Trail footage soon!!
When I hiked that trail for the first time, some 40+ years ago, before the Palmetto Trail even existed, we hiked mostly in the shade. Hurrican Hugo destroyed most of the big loblolly and longleaf pines that were in the forest.
Not like the black water around here. Beautiful!
Still though.. it's pretty dark
