  • In the Soviet Union russian physicist Anatoli Bugorski made the mistake of walking in front of a high energy particle accelerator emitting huge amounts of radiation, while it was still turned on. The radioactive beam pierced through Bugorski's brain causing some brain damage, but despite receiving many times more than a lethal dose of radiation, Anatoli Bugorski survived...

    I heard that as a result of his condition he lost a fair bit of control over his cheek muscles on the left sids of his face. As a result that side of his face barely has any natural creases or wrinkles that you would expect for someone of his age compared to the right side where he could obviously still control the muscles to make a smile or laugh. It's like one side of his face has barely aged compared to the othed visually.
    His story is really interesting and one in which he was extremely fortunate to have survived, shame he struggled to get the help he deserved and to tell his story for so long.

    Fantastic research, writing, editing, sincerely looking into every aspect of it we can tell how much care you put into it! Really great video again!
    I only knew bits and pieces of this story, but I never understood why there was only something like a single hole in his head... If the beam is so fast and it had never been deactivated the whole time (I think the warning light might have burnt out or something like that, I'm not sure) Wouldn't you expect the damage to look like when you pass a hot wire through styrofoam? He dipped his head through it, certainly moved it around a bit and then moved away, all the way the beam would be passing non-stop through him. It feels almost as if it shot at some point when his head was already in there, cycled a few times in the very same spot until it was absorbed somewhere rather quickly... perhaps after the very first puncture it was deflected by his flesh and it stopped somewhere else. Yeah, that was very interesting! It was awesome to get to know more details about this incident, thank you so much for posting!

    From his images it means that when he put his head inside, the beam wasn't on there yet, or he would have had a long scar like if cut by a James Bond movie laser. Like if Darth Vader tried to cut his head with his lightsaber and stopped midway. And since the entry and exit holes seem to be so precise, it must have been some sort of instantaneous shot of energy of a few milliseconds. I think he survived only because the protons passed through a small part of his body. For example, a proton potentially had an energy of 1,800 Sievert, but Anatoly's body absorbed only part of the energy, the rest did not affect it in any way, that is, the cells remained intact.
    This is how they even treat cancerous tumors, irradiating with high-energy radiation, which irradiates only part of the body without affecting other parts.
    Well, there is a nuance, only the energy of the part is not always important, but also their ammount, people receiving radiation sickness are irradiated with billions of particles throughout the body

    How come he only got necrosis and hairloss in that one spot from the back of the head to his nose?
    Wouldn't all areas that got hit when he moved into that position and then pulled out his head again?
    Or was he stuck in that one position for longer than just instantly pulling his head out again?
    Super interesting and well done as always!

    I don’t even press the garage door close button until everyone is in the house and I have auto sensors and a new system in. If I can’t put trust of the lives of my family into a garage door not crushing them…you can bet I would have triple checked that the machine was off…put a guard on the door to make sure no one “accidentally” turned the machine of death back on, then I’d put a radiation suit on with an alarm.

    • @PeakedInterest
      @PeakedInterest  2 года назад +2

      Most countries did during the war and after too. They just weren't as far along as the Russians and American, Americans because they had a lot of defectors from Germany and Austria and Russia because they were spying on the US

    • @TheTreegodfather
      @TheTreegodfather 2 года назад

      @@PeakedInterest I point that out because the morality of having used the bomb comes up often. While I think it sucks that many likely innocent and unsympathetic people were killed, given both Japan's and Germany's own atrocities, it's untenable to think that they would have hesitated themselves to use an atomic weapon on a civilian population if they felt it would further the war in their favor. But for that, both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, while having civilian populations, were at least militarily justifiable targets. Food for thought.

    • @PeakedInterest
      @PeakedInterest  2 года назад +2

      They were not military justifiable targets nor did the bombs end the war. We are constantly spoon fed this narrative because it's a terrible atrocity that America wishes to wash itself of. In truth all of Truman's military and science advisors told him it was unnecessary and not to use it he ignored it.
      There's a superbly researched video by the channel shaun which I'll link below, it's a long watch but well worth it, all claims are backed up by sources which are all from the actual people involved in those decisions

    this 2:45 map is just wrong, its flipped wtf.. i was searching for baltic countries in the left corner and i was amazed when i found it in the top of the map like wtf..
    to get painful tinnitus is just terrible, its as terrible as other possible symptoms mentioned in this clip actually. it can drive a human being nuts and there is no medication to fix it, well i guess at 1978 they didnt have anything to even calm it down..
    12:00 so you mean if the xray machine somehow malfunctioned or the setting of the speed would have been chosen wrong - is it possible to get poisoned with radiation and die from it from a single xray scan? or is it still not enough of radiation for that?
    by the way, there is no information here about the person who had to stop the particle accelerator and you wrote in your description that it was his own fault that he walked there - well danger sign was off. and the other scientist had to stop it. so i dont get it why its his own fault then and why no info about the man who failed to stop it?

    • @PeakedInterest
      @PeakedInterest  2 года назад

      The map isn't flipped it only covers soviet nations. The Baltic nations are too far east to be seen on the map. Beneath russia is Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan etc. It is also an official Soviet map from the 80s so there could also be some...inaccuracies as the Soviet government tried to frame soviet union as the centre of Europe much like how European country sizes aren't accurate as many countries wanted their nation to be bigger on the map (UK is a good example)

  • @renscience
    @renscience Год назад

    This seems false. Not the documentary but the info itself. If the beam was continuously on, then it would be more light a light saber producing a slash not a bullet type hole. If he received the damage as described, then he would have to stick his head inside the cavity and hold still with the machine off, the beam would have to be turned on temporarily producing a hole. The other thing that seems fishy is that he was able to stick his head in at all. These machines, like the LHC are continuous enclosed apparatus with superconducting magnets and corresponding cooling ducts etc. any brake in that loop would render it inop.🤔

    I like this video, thumbs up. But most of your videos are covering topics that have been widely covered leading to a serious lack of interest in your channel. Dont spend so much time on recycled content.

    • @PeakedInterest
      @PeakedInterest  Год назад +1

      For me it's less about whether the topic has been covered and more about what I can add to the discussion. If I don't think I can then I don't make the video.
      Try the videos about Yuri lipski, hisashi ouchi and the most recent upload about omaira Sanchez for examples of what I mean. Topics that have been covered before but nobody has given the information and context that I gave.
      From what I can see in analytics people's viewing habits skew towards things they're already familiar with, they just want to hear a new voice.
      I am going to be covering more stories from other countries and cultures which should be right up your alley since you'll likely have never heard of stories from India, Philippines, middle East etc.
