- I've been wanting to make it out to Dickie Dees ever since I saw it on Instagram. It did not disappoint. This Italian hot dog in a pizza bread pocket with peppers and onions topped with potatoes and ketchup, is no joke. Deep Fried right before your eyes, its a experience to be had.
During the 70s we used to stop at the Italian hot dog spot on the corner of Branford Pl then walk across the street to the movie theater. My mom would tell us to stuff the entire sandwich into our pockets and she would stuff her purse with candy bars and sandwich. Movies were a $1 and we would sit for hours watching double feature films. Good times! I miss the Italian hot dog spot and that era of what we had to enjoy.
I worked at a 3-letter Fed agency in Newark for many years. A monthly pilgrimage to worship at Dickie Dee's was job requirement and, and I dearly miss it. Don't forget Ward's Coffee on Broad St., and the Portugese restaurants in the Iron Bound. But get out of town before dark.
Thats a great comment. Thanks for sharing!
Jimmy Buff's invented it, Dickie Dee's perfected it. 👍 I been going there for 35 years.
Yes!! ✌🏼
I think it’s more like 36 or 37 years.
Everything to right home about. They have been there forever. The guys r so nice and helpful 2 anyone
First went to Dickie Dees 40 years ago! Haven’t been there in a few years. Time to go back!
I don’t know,I just like a good old fashioned tasty hotdog.
Ahhhh... The Old Country!!!!!!!
Not too many places you can find Welch's Grape Soda...
In this video they are talking about DICKIE DEE'S sausages in Jersey, and I disagree with the guy frying the sausages, maybe on the BBQ, or on a flat grill,or on a hotdog/Sausage roller,or like they do in the city from a container with hot water, mustard, onions, beef chili, sauerkraut, but in Hawaii, the only sausages were a Portuguese style called GOVAYS,but other than that, not even HOT/SWEET ITALIAN sausages, but in Germany sausages or Wurst,is very popular, and I go out of my way to search and buy sausages, good snack/MEAL,and I have made and served different COMBO plates,GERMAN,AMERICAN,ITALIAN, RUSSIAN, style plates, with French Fries, Potato salad, Vegetable rice, anything, assorted buttered vegetables, anything Chili, chilled salad, buttered French bread, but if you go to a theater, or a ball game they will charge you 3.00 and up,and that's just a basic hotdog, sausages are more money, just like now if you go to MCDONALD'S, the prices have gone up 300%,so many people are saying NO,OR GOODBYE, like me and on average it costs about 10.00 for a cheeseburger, French Fries and a beverage, and it's in the NEWS,but BURGER KING, WENDY'S, AND WHITE CASTLE, are all doing the same thing, and I won't go to TGIF,as I used to work there, while I was in high school, the main reason is that it's MASS PRODUCED,Junk Food, which is not very healthy for you, and I even make my own FRENCH FRIES, with RUSSIAN DRESSING, CHEAPER AND BETTER,save a lot of money and I refuse to spend 3.00 on a hotdog, and nowadays it's not made with beef anymore, pork, chicken, turkey, veggie, look at the price factor, and now MCDONALD'S is advertising 1.49 for a beverage, when you can buy a 2 LTR, for 1.49,compare and Shop,be a EDUCATED CONSUMER, and if you have a family, WATCH OUT.
Lol not Brucey Lees?
Jojo’s Italian Hot Dogs down the shore in Toms River was phenomenal. Sadly, they closed during the pandemic. I miss NJ food, but not their stupid rules and politics.
THERE WAS A STAND ON THE CORNER OF HALLECK AND BROADWAY. OMG THEY WERE GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gross
Nothing to write home about. That food seems really bland.
You’ve either never been there or your tastebuds suck!
