    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  Год назад +1

      No. I strongly recommend AGAINST using anything other than Mopar paper filters. Anything less allows for too much dirt to get into the engine and that will cause issue with your engine. This is something I have seen time and time again since the 3.6L was introduced back in 2012.

    What are your thoughts on snorkels? When in Africa, I see them everywhere. They swear they reduce dust ingestion. Then again, they may not have as easy access to new clean air filters, either. I'm chewing on the idea of a Mopar snorkel for my JL before going to Moab in October. You live and play in what appears to be a VERY dusty environment, so I'd love to know your experienced thoughts on it.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  6 лет назад +2

      Personally, I'm not a fan of snorkels. Depending on the wind, they'll suck in just as much dust as a Jeep without one. The single best thing you can do is run a factory panel filter and change it on a regular basis.

    • @dmwil1
      @dmwil1 6 лет назад

      My African friends don't do a great deal of water crossing. They tell me it is primarily for dust. That said, they live in it constantly. I only visit it occasionally, so I wanted to hear from folks that are in it more often than me. I don't do deep water, unless there is no option. I've seen vehicles hydrolock and get other damage from it, even in places they'd crossed before, several times.

    • @LenSilvester
      @LenSilvester 6 лет назад +2

      There is a reason why 90% of Africa and Australia overlanders, tour companies, etc run raised snorkels, and they seldom do deep water crossings. If your concern is more for dust then water a raised snorkel with a pre-filter will be a significant improvement over the stock location. A second filter can only improve the air quality and if you are following another vehicle the dust kicked up from them is reduced higher in the atmosphere (less dust in the air at 6' then there is at 3'). Search "snorkel" on Andrew St.Pierre-4XOverland channel, Ronny Dahl-4WDinWA, and Jim McNabb, combined they have a few million miles of Africa and Australia desert and sand dune crossings.

      Plus the snorkel pulls in colder outside air to the engine

    • @MJMAC
      @MJMAC 6 лет назад +1

      I'm in Australia and run a snorkel on my nissan and get considerably less dust in my airbox. By running a snorkel that's sealed to the airbox properly and goes up to the roof line you're getting cleaner, cooler air.

    I bought last week a new 2023 JLUR with XR package off the dealer lot. Someone custom ordered it and changed their mind for some reason. But my new Jeep came from the factory with Mopar Cold Air Intake installed. I think the Mopar CAI air box has a reusable filter that has more airflow. Any feedback on this filter? You think it may have less filtering capacity than the stock disposable Mopar filter?

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  2 года назад

      Get rid of it and reinstall a factory airbox with Mopar paper filter. Trust me, the CAI lets in way too much dirt and it will ruin your engine. A good friend of mine had a factory installed Mopar CAI and when his engine started burning oil, the CAI was blamed for it and Jeep would NOT warranty his motor.

    • @shmohsin-lasvegas
      @shmohsin-lasvegas 2 года назад

      @@wayalife Thanks. What if I just add the OEM paper filter since the CAI is also Mopar and came installed from the factory. It would be then the same as the regular stock one, but just a wider tube.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  6 лет назад +3

      No. I would not recommend it. I have run K&N and similar high flow filters and have found them to let in way too much dirt. As you can see in our video, we are in the dust A LOT and the only thing I have found to do the BEST job of protecting our engines from dust is the factory filters.

    Question to any JL owners... Does your fan go on even if the engine is not warmed up? This happens to me on warm days. The fan would go on for about 30 seconds and run idle. Should I be concerned about this? Eddie the sound is like when you took your jl off road for the first time and you said "it was pissed"

    How often does one need to change the Air filter as well the cabin filter?

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  5 лет назад

      The air filter, I would change as needed. If you're not in a lot of dust, you can stick to the service intervals as is described in the user manual and that's a long time. Cabin filter, that all depends too. For the most part, they won't get nearly as clogged or as quickly.
