The new Mercedes EQA is an electric SUV that could make a HUGE impact in the EV world. That's because most of its rivals around its price range are more mainstream alternatives. Very few have posh badges. So does the EQA offer scaled-down Jaguar I-Pace-style electric car luxury for a little bit more money than a Kia e-Niro? Should the Tesla Model Y be worried? Watch to find out.

This review does not tell the truth about the EQA at all. It’s a fantastic car, it drives perfect, it’s silent, it looks good. Nothing is more boring as the Tesla 3. Just look on the interior. There are no details, NO buttons, it’s so plain. Good Tesla invented the autopilot because it is necessary to have something to assist the driver when he falls asleep of the boringness of their Model 3.
Very true sir. The best or nothing! As a owner of GLA and now EQA, no need for EQC since the dimensions are not much different really and I choose to skip air suspension. Never had a problem with the GLA and it looks and performs good. Love the EQA now.
It's a little misleading to compare the peak charging speeds. Sure the Tesla can do 250 kW, but only for about five seconds and only in perfect conditions. The eTron pulls 150 kW reliably from 0 to 80%, which is fantastic, but that's a thirsty boat. The EQA has a pretty flat charging curve and Mercedes is sandbagging that speed; I've seen other reviews where people get 112 kW! Combine all that and the EQA actually compares alright to the other two that you chose. And certainly far better than the Niro or the XC40.
Plus regardless of speeds you're still going to be stopped for 30mins to go 80%
On charging yes, but overall isn't better than Niro? Compare efficiency and equipment levels.. £1500 to add adaptive cruise the others get as standard?
As a Mercedes fan, it's disappointing....feels like a half hearted effort from a once upon a time "Gold Standard" auto maker.....seems like they are really having trouble accepting the end of ICE engines, global warming and people wanting to make a difference to our health and our planet's well being.....
Thank you Ola. I appreciate the kind offer. I am fine, it's Mercedes that I am concerned about. I think you could maybe offer the Mercedes designers a trip to Korea's Hyundai/Kia to inspire them or google "Ionic5" and be amazed like the rest of us.
No real reason to buy it then, at that price point it needs to be better then the crowd, not just average
@Ola Källenius what reasons?
Nothing average about Mercedes. Best or nothing.😊
Tesla cars are ugly to look at, turtle look
Not that great, not that bad, sadly a bit meh, however, looks good and nice insterior and kit. Also all the cars with faster charging really dont have that much over the Merc for charge times. Sadly in the UK there is not enough 150kw or 200kw public chargers so they charge no faster than this at 100kw. All these brand with amazing charging facilities are being really let down by UK and our charging infrastructure.
Mercedes are at least a generation behind Tesla and Hyundai on drive train efficiency. 2 tonnes is a ridiculous weight for a B segment EV SUV. The e-Niro which has more interior space is 200kg lighter. The top spec e-Niro with all the bells and whistles of the EQC in this video costs just under £40k which is a starting price for a base model EQA and its build quality is as good as today's Mercs. It seems like Mercedes really aren't trying or maybe this is the best they can do and they really are that far behind the curve..
Yeah, but both Tesla and Hyundai are multiple generations behind Mercedes in making kickarse twin-turbo V8s: ya win some, ya lose some! ;)
It's a combined platform. That's why.
Wait till EQS comes out later this year, then it's bye bye Model S.
ID4 is already kicking Model Ys ass.
IONIQ 5 though.
German cars are expensive JUNK🤮🤮🤮🤮.
💓💓💓💓BUY KOREAN CAR!!! they are much better! 💓💓💓💓
It’s a shame the rear seats are nit very usable in such an expensive car
Woah. That was subtly savage to max.
To be honest, the plastics at the glove box or lower doors looks cheap in camera and judging by other, even C-Class levels Mercedes' I've been in, it probably is. That leaves the interior looks and one mans nice is another mans cluster-fuck.
A good honest review that would put me right off buying this car. By the way you did appear to sit very close to the steering wheel.
Driving position is perfect for carcontrol and feeling. I'm sitting in the same position.
So, Mercedes didn’t learn anything from the EQC, the EQA is basically an EV version of the GLA whereas the EQC was a longer version of the GLC (yes, an EV version), car companies tried this set up with ICE models as EV models before, I was expecting more from Mercedes, guess we’ll have to wait for the EQS (which bring the EQS sedan, EQS SUV and EQE sedan), since it’s getting a dedicated design EV platform, as for this EQA it’s not a Tesla Model Y fighter, being fwd based and a subcompact / small compact, it’s more of a Chevy Bout EUV fighter, the EQA is closer to the Buick Velite 7 than the Tesla Model Y also, last I checked the Model Y was RWD based not fwd like the EQA, I look for Tesla stock price to keep increasing, the Germans keep dropping the ball, the Audi e-tron SUV (aka Q6) didn't offer the range or size for the price point, the Porsche Taycan didn't offer the range and the interior space is nowhere near the Model S, hence a problem, the ID3 / ID4 are interesting but too slow, but at least the new VW Group MEB platform is interesting, we will have to see future models, BMW offered the i3 EV / EREV and i8 plugin, now BMW has the new iX coming with a dedicated design EV platform (but, only for this model, why), all other BMW models will be based off existing platforms with EV internals
Also remember that when you buy a EV Mercedes you will get the Mercedes ME- RFDI, which lets you charge at almost any station! No more fiddle with 5+ different cards...
So, a boring car than... no reason to buy on. E-niro or Kona would do much better range, at lower price with better warranty from its manufacturers
I just think it's funny that this car that literally does nothing better than its rivals comes from a company whose motto is "The Best or Nothing".
At least it gets people in evs, though.
It is basically an uglier GLA
9:15 "But this is by no means a horrifically uncomfortable car.." *suspension thump* lol. I worked at an MB dealership for 7 years, during which they had the best products available, this looks like they've been caught napping by other manufacturers. Shame.
At least it gets people in evs though.
@@maxnewts True, the more the better.
It's not slow at 0 to 60 at 8.7 seconds, how slow can anything get, for electric suv it's a dog. Shame on Mercedes,
Whatever they specify for the range, just take about 70% to get the real world figure.
Great video, well done
Today the Volvo C40 recharge was posted
Useful review. Was considering changing from my ID4, but absolutely not after seeing this.
Tesla Model Y wins in every aspect - charging network, technology, acceleration, supercharger network
I mean it looks way too similar than the petrol cars and even the inside. Should have been more modern
In France the EQA 250 limited edition has almost the same price that the Tesla Model 3 Standard range plus, what do you think is best to buy for an average family ?
Tesla 3 is the best family car. So much more cargo space. 100 liters more than this car. I have the T3 4wd long range. My wife says it’s the first car she really loves.
@@korsveien thank you !
@@jonathanx8105 Its also twice as fast and has 100 km longer range. And much faster charging. You also get the Tesla charger network. The network is good enough reason to buy a Tesla. No queue on charging stations. It’s a no brainer compared to Mercedes car.
I’d go for an ID4 Pro Performance Style Edition, cheaper to buy with more space
What a let down. Shame as Mercedes are currently my favourite German brand at the moment.
MB design team out to lunch when this was put together?
I was thinking that
You can tell he's being 'politically correct' when it comes to the ride quality. The camera shake is awful in the interior shots.
Glory days of tesla are in the past...
Back seat is great if you dont have legs... imagine being 6tf5 in that backseat. It has absolutely no leg support at all. Ridicolous.
It's based on an A-class platform...what do you expect?
Spoils the whole car
I didn't even know that there was 64 different colours
No Tesla Not worried from Anyone Until Anyone decides take Electric cars Seriously by making sure there is a Large amount of Charging points Especially super Chargers . It don’t matter how good the car is Until Charging points issue is sorted it don’t matter !
Test drove this car last week - excellent - no hesitation recommending it. I drive a Jag, so no vested interest.
Hmmmm...
White on-screen annotations against a white-coloured car...???
I have absolutely no idea the price of the ID4...! :-)
So sorry to be pedantic but.....
The car is an utter disaster. MB's raison d'etre is smoothness and refinement. It has poor performance and shit refinement. Plus you'll pay for the badge.
Loved
Give it a proper grill even if it is electric
I got rid of my A250 last week and I have a Q5 coming in. I’ve checked the quality in the GLC and it does come close to the Q5. Mercedes and quality are not synonymous anymore. They are style over substance. Sad
I'd take the Peugeot or the Ford over this one.
One of the best interior out there ? I don't question the built quality but it looks like a souped up truck/van at 2:44 too many vertical stuff , the climate controls looks like those cassete stereos you would find inside a with van.
There's no need for this car to exist, period
It just looks like a GLA with a bad facelift and £10k more
Weight, range, (battery and motor tech), acceleration, ride, looks. All unacceptable by 2020 standards. If this had a Kia badge they wouldn't sell a single one.
Getting famous off of comments day 276, so I can live the dream, live every day like it’s your last🤙🚀
Not everyone goes skiing so the fact that middle seat that can lower would be lost on a fair amount of people. Why not just say you could load up long wooden poles or long metal poles which is more practical. By saying it holds skis gives the impression that ordinary folks cannot afford this car as they don't go skiing makes for a stereotypical view of the buying public.
It looks like the new Hyundai Tucson gone extremely wrong
Great review but white writing on a white car when trying to display information, was probably not the best choice. Expensive for average.
0-60 in 9 seconds? did they purposely go out of their way to make the car that slow? the only thing this is beating off the line is an old Toyota Prius... wait actually....
I drive a brand new Bentley but have never been skiing, nor do I want to.
Best = T E S L A
Totally rubbish
Buy kia or hyundai evs better than this
Another legacy oem BEV, another embarrassing failure. The "competition" is coming... What a joke.
