    Hey Kramer , I purchased two of your d97 bow strings a week ago & they just arrived today . I have to say everything was great about receiving them down to the packaging & the wax seal on the outside of the envelope with your logo on it ( way cool ) I hope to have a long string life with the strings you put together for my daughter & I . I plan to use them when are old strings get to bad to use . I’m going to put knock points on them & condition them & put them back in there packaging until such time . I just want to thank you & everyone at shatterproof archery for every thing you guys did for me to get my strings & I look forward to buying your merchandise again some day (THANK YOU VERY MUCH) your friend Robert .

    Since I live in Europe I never tried osage orange but my favourite bow material all things considered is white oak. It is more durable and less prone to twisting than yew, denser and stronger than ash, maple, elm or alder, can hold any cross section, can be fire hardened and is rot- and weather resistant for a white wood. The only downside is that it is a rather heavy material.

    You say you shot the same arrow through each bow. Does spine and length not have a huge impact on the way each bow shoots? How much attention do you pay with that? • @jkre

    Set happens mostly when the bow is over stressed, it allso happens because of moisture, but mainly its the bowyers fault, in the desing and/or tillering. If bending wood too much, too fast, set happens, if the bows bending area is too short or narrow set happens, if the bow has weak spot in tiller set happens. It is really hard to make a bow without set, but it can be done, and if the bow doesn't take in moisture, it will not come later either. Oak takes set very easily, maby the best way to prevent that is fire hardening, it makes the bow way more compression resistant, and set is allways caused by fibers compressing on the belly. On bamboo backed bows has to be very carefull not to make the bamboo on the back too thick, cus then the back will be too strong in tension and forces too much compression to the belly, and i think that is why the ipe bow has taken set. Ipe is one of the most compression resistant woods, but it too can be overpowered by too thick bamboo back. I think the bamboo is thinner, or the tiller better on the osage bow so that it has taken less set than the ipe. Since the ipe is so strong in compression, and moisture is pretty much only an issue in white woods (like oak) the only reason possible to cause set is the bowyer him self, he has made something wrong that has over stressed the wood, and he should learn why is the set happening and learn from that. A good bowyer can make bow with 1" of set, very good bowyer makes one with 1/2" and exelent bowyer makes one with no set at all. Personaly i have made bows with no set, but only kids poundages, but i cannot seem to be able to make hunting weight bows with no set, yet atleast. I'm in the range of 1/2" to 1" set, at the moment and so far my fastest bow shoots 180 fps with 530 gn arrow 53#@29". The bow is bamboo backed jatoba elb, and the bamboo is too thick, so the bow has about 1" of set, allso i made a mistake in gluing it, and i accidentaly glued it in 1/2 inch "set" (Its not really set, cus its not caused by compression, its glued like that) so the bow has about 1.5" deflex. I made that 4 year ago, and since then i haven't made bamboo backed adult bows, so it remains as my fastest bow, eaven tough i probably could do similar bow nowadays that shoots over 190 fps. My only adult bow i have build after that is fire hardened hickory self bow, and it shoots allmost as fast, i havent measured the exact speed yet, but based on other bows that i know the speed of and comparing the penetration i would say its around 165 to 170 fps (maby close to 170) bow 51#@29, its not optimized for speed all the way, cus its based on historical examble of north eastern native american bow, so there would be some room to improve the speed, with few changes.

    • @jkre
      @jkre 3 года назад

      Now that i looked some further in to the video, i'm sure the bamboo is way too thick, and the set is 90% caused by the bamboo over stressing the wood, the rest 10% can be the bowyer, or not

    • @jkre
      @jkre 3 года назад

      The ipe is eaven thinner than the bamboo, and there is no chance a bow like that could survive without set. The bamboo needs to be as thin as possible, cus the back of the bamboo is curved, the edges has to be sharp, then its thin enough, not like that, the ipe doesn't have a fighting chance against the bamboo, and it will compress. Thats why the ipe bow shoots under 170 fps, if the bamboo would be 1/3 of the bow limb thickness, there would not be any set, and the bow would shoot way over 180 fps

    An irrational fear of cameras yet employees are expected to sign a contract exposing themselves to cameras at any time without knowing if/when cameras are being used and not knowing if/when that footage will be uploaded. Good for him for being able to overcome his fear of cameras......but.....to expect workers to voluntarily take part in this is a bit much for me. Not that I want a job at shatterproof, or that they would have me if I did. Just seems odd given the mental concerns/problems the owner has in this specific situation. One would think that shop policy would be no cameras or video equipment on site without express, advanced notification to all employees.
