  • In his Kabbalat Shabbat sermon at Temple Israel (West Bloomfield, Mich.), Rabbi Harold Loss referenced the anniversary of D-Day and the debate of isolation vs. engagement that had occurred prior to the events of Pearl Harbor. Rabbi Loss stated that if D-Day failed, General Dwight Eisenhower shared that he would be the one to take responsibility.
The D-Day anniversary reminds of us so many lives lost and now we are continuing to see war in Ukraine and Israel with lives lost daily. History tends to be two steps forward and one step back.
On Shavuot, we celebrate Moses ascending Mt. Sinai and receiving the 10 Commandments. In Reform Judaism, we celebrate Confirmation on Shavuot. The Confirmandts, Rabbi Loss shares represent our commitment to Jewish continuity. Rabbi Loss continues that we must send our kids to college with the ability to answer questions, know what they value and what their tradition stands for.
