What if Korea became an Empire? Alternate History of Joseon Korea (1392-1633)

- Yi Seong-gye has overthrown Goryeo, declaring the Hwaryeong Dynasty. His descendants colonize the Jurchens and Japan. Completely balkanizing the Tokugawa. Creating a mighty Korean Empire capable of fighting Europeans.
This is an alternate timeline where Korea rejects Neo-Confucianism, embraces Buddhsim, and goes on to conquer much of the former Goryeo as well as win the Imjin war without Chinese intervention, and go on to adapt to European weaponry to completely obliterate the Japanese.
I hope you enjoyed the video! If so please like and subscribe, these videos take quite some time to create and produce.
Timeline Trivia:
1. Hwaryeong is the birthplace of General Yi Seong-gye.
2. Japan's population remains under ten million until the late 19th century.

As a Korean, I like this video so much!
And I’d like you to make a sequel to this video. :)
I wonder why you like it hah
@@TheZhuangziAcademy Well, I like it because in this universe Korea expand their territory and your video’s quality is good.
Thanks for the praise!
Oh yeah I got that you liked it because big Korea, I was just making a rhetorical joke :D
You should do what if Koxinga won/Tungning Kingdom survives if you haven't already
If anyone is interested, this is my second take at a Korean Empire, I had a timeline I started around two years ago based on a EU4 campaign I had, but this scenario is meant to be slightly more realistic. Obviously, the ending with obliteating the Japanese isn't, but that's because it's actually me adapting one of my old maps into video format! If anyone wants to check out the OG map here's a link: www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/comments/f8jg03/map_of_japan_in_an_alternate_1911_where_korea_is/
It's also if Japan got dismantled socially, culturally, politically by a Korean Empire from this map: www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/comments/f66aq4/the_greater_korean_empire_in_an_alternate_1911/
아주 좋소!!!!
If you're able to accept requests or responses, can you try making if China replaces Japan as the Axis powers in WW2?
Hah! I’ve actually made a map for that exact scenario, but not a video yet I’m afraid. I do accept requests but just keep in mind these videos take a long time, so it may be a while before your idea is made :)

Hi, I love your videos. Do you have a schedule of releases? I like your alternate Chu-Han timeline the most ^-^
Part Three to the Chu-Han contention is planned to release after I re-edit the original two parts to fit the newer editing style I have now. So it should be one or two videos down the line for part three!
My releases may slow down though, as I have exams and probably won’t have that much time for videos.
I guess Jeong Do-jeon never became one of the architects of a new dynasty in this era? He was a Confucian scholar, therefore may have been persecuted by the Buddhist elite.
Yup, any Confucian scholar is a big nono in this Korea
It's sad that Korea never created an empire and for centuries was under either Chinese or Japanese boot.
From the perspective of personified nations themselves, then yeah, Korea never really got the chance to project itself. But I guess it has a soft power cultural Empire of sorts now.
But tbh I would rather there never were Empires in history, just for the sake of those who inevitably suffer unjustly.
well, not exactly. goguryeo is usually classified as an empire. The same is true of balhae. and goryeo also exerted a strong influence over many jurchen tribes after defeating khitan. In fact, Koreanic dynasties have been in an imperial position for quite some time historically.
Hwaryeong sounds cool
Thank you Su Jiang

What a unfeasible and poorly planned idea.
