HUBSAN ZINO PRO+ / ZINO PRO PLUS / ZINO PRO - USING DIFFERENT BATTERIES (5000, 3000 & 4200 GIFI)

- What batteries work and what is the better option as a result?
I am using the Hubsan Zino Pro+ batteries on the Hubsan Zino Pro and using the Zino Pro batteries and the GIFI batteries on the Zino Pro Plus.
Hubsan is spending more time on trying to stop you from using other batteries when then need to focus on quality control and better firmware not to mention finishing the things that don't work as described on these Hubsan drones.
Keeping your Zino Pro and buying the Zino Pro Plus batteries might be your best option here. Especially if you are on older Zino Pro firmware and an older app version with no battery metering problems.
I think it's much nicer to have the option to use the batteries you already have like the 3000 mAh or 4200 mAh GIFI that fit the Pro+ even if they have lower ratings or using the larger 5000 mAh on you Zino or Zino Pro.

Thanks Chris, that answers that question, good to know, will be buying the + battery for my Pro!
Dave from OKC⚓️
As usual, brilliant video full of great info.
Great and very informative video....as always, thanks Chris
Thanks Chris!!! Have a Happy New Year!!!!
Great information again.
Thank you Chris.

Good information Chris, thank you...
Thanks Chris! I just bought a GiFi 4200, but the next one will be a Pro + 5000 I think.
Wow, battery lock out? Thanks for the heads up. Hope you are feeling better.
Thanks Chris, appreciate the information for us zino pro flyers. I see you may have hit the video / gimbal / mb issue that I had. Hope it wasn't me that got your last good spare pro mb... 😜
It could have been you... 😂
Thank you again for fixing my drone.
Nice !!! Thanks
Great info...curious on how much more flight time you can get.
You actually landed that on your head, neet trick
did you measure the red 4200 battery ? if I user my discharge tool/charger it comes to 3000mah in real life on 2 new batteries. Has someone did also do this test ?
Very informative as usual. 2 questions doesn't the pro plus come with access to the other intelligent flights modes like the zino 2? Secondly in your opinion should u also stay away from updates as with other zinos being the firmware blunders.
Yes it has the same flight modes but not sure if all work exactly.
Always stay away from updates if it is flying good and your happy. That includes app updates. 👍🏻
Hubsan will burn you one day and I say that as 100% guarantee. 👍🏻
Great informative video Chris. Please speak to the charging process for the 5000m battery. Will it charge from a stock Hubsan Zino Pro charger? Also, are there any upgrades with the Pro+ that enhance range besides the larger battery? My Gifi battery gives me plenty of power 🔋 but my range is limited even with Yagi's or parabolics...
No you can only use a + - power supply to the battery in this one and the Zino 2+. It has a different circuit in the battery that won’t allow you to use the old chargers or a hobby grade charger.
You’re range issue could be multiple things and yes the pro plus is enhanced a little there but could be a issue for you in your area unless there’s something wrong with your pro.
Thanks
I bought the 5000 battery last winter, didn't get a chance to fly or charge it but when I tried to charge it recently it would only blink the 3 green lights.
Anyway to recover battery or is there something else going on?
They produce too many bad batteries and they don’t last as long as other companies batteries so without seeing and testing for myself I say possible bad battery.
Hi Just came across your channel, I have a Zino Pro and I was going to fly a few days ago and I notice that my Drone when I take off and let it hover it starts to drift, can you tell me is there something wrong I'm doing? Thanks for your time.
That could be a simple not enough satellites meaning at least 12 or it needs a horizontal calibration on a perfectly flat level surface away from metal objects or magnets.
Hi Chris, thank you so much for this video. Where can I purchase the GIFI battery from? Amazon in the UK don't have them
You being in the UK and my being in the states your first best bet is google "Hubsan Zino 4200 gifi" Thanks
On the battery read out, will it show the actual voltage for the 5000mah battery and run with normal read out, or do we have a stall like on the 4200mah?
It’s still the same voltage regardless so it reads the same. It will just last longer being a higher mAh.
Same as if you purchase a AA battery with a higher mAh.
Hi Chris, greetings from Colombia.
I think last week if I'm not bad the latest firmware update for the Zino Pro Plus came out. Do you think that has improved or solved the problem of showing lower battery charge? or is everything the same?
Thank you.
No because they haven't updated the app. This is where the bigger part of the problem lays with these quads. Just my opinion...
Well done Chris💪, I have a question if the 5000Mah battery works with the Zino h117S? I will add that Zino Pro plus also works with the X-Hubsan 2 application has more autonomous modes Greetings 😎🙋♂️🙋👍
Yes....The Zino Pro Plus is supposed to work with the X-Hubsan 2 app by design. Not sure what you meant here...
As for the 5000mAh battery working in the H117S? Yes I know 2 people that have been using it.
@@QCGUY Ok thanks Come to us 😎😁greetings from Poland 🙋🇵🇱🙋♂️
Thanks for those usefull infos ! Could it be possible to modify the battery instead of the Zino, for warranty sake ... ?
Nothing I can see at this point. They added a board in the battery that I think works as a identification if you will and that’s what the quad is looking for.
I have a question for you mate..
Can i use zino pro charger to charge zino pro plus?
Can not find charger. Anywhere
Yes but that’s going to take a bit longer and may at times prompt that it knows you aren’t using the stock charger.
Great info, makes want to return the pro plus since hubsan wants to be jerks.
Does the 4200ah gift battery lock in without chopping the plastic lug out?
Yes 👍🏻
I could have already ask this question? Sorry if I have but will the zino pro use a 3000 mAh 11.4 V battery? Thanks!
Yes 👍🏻
It can use 5000mAh too.
What if you try to fly it without the app? I can fly my air 2 and my Mavic pro without my phone using just the radio? Would that work? It’s powering up.
Sometimes it’s the simplest things. Great idea and very easy to test which would confirm it’s the app alone if so. Good thinking 👍🏻
Hi Chris, could you make a vídeo on how to improve the zino H117s to make it safer and better, components, Waterproofing, silence , THX I saw ur other videos about the zino, but it would be like encompassing allí the possible improvements for the zino H117s, in one more current
Not sure about that one but will think about it. Thanks
I bought a 6500 mAh battery and it goes right in my zino pro and locks right in. Now i need a way to charge it. Can anyone tell me how and what I would need to buy. I really appreciate any help anyone can give me
QUESTION:
Does charging wire from Zino H117S battery fits to battery from Zino Pro Plus? I have charger for three batteries from Zino H117S and could I charge it?
Yes it fits as I answered in your question on another video of mine. It should charge fine as long as the charger is just a power supply. A charger that does balance mode won't work. That is done within the battery circuit.
@@QCGUY thank's :D so
I think I'll buy a zino pro..
Cool video. I really liked every gps hubsan that I ever purchased. Up until they loose gps and fall out of the sky on my. i STILL OWN A H901S BIG PRETTY BIRD WITH A CAMERA i CAN TOTALLY LIVE WITH,, i have two h501s. they are both much slower than they use to be before all the different models and updates. That makes three gps quadcopters that I really dont see myself ever flying again. I have almost zero confidence in hubsan to the point where I think any flight with there quad's ? is dam near a suicide mission..my little f11 pro's and mjx bugs 20 has 90% more gps reliability than any hubsan.. never again..
Hey Chris!! I have a hubsan zino extra battery (3000 MA) but I have the zino pro plus... Do you know If I can use this zino battery on pro plus as an extra when the other one runs out? Will I cause any damage on the drone?? I haven't used it at all. It's brand new and I can't return it... If it's not useful for the pro plus then I don't know what I am gonna do with it.. Thanks!!
Nope 👎
They battery blocked us there.
@@QCGUY Big failure for the comnpany, then.... Maybe I will have to sell it... Thanks!
hi, you use the original charger for pro plus or something else?
Many use this one amzn.to/3sIad6S
Hello Sir. I have a hubsan zino pro plus and the battery of this aircraft is locked circuit. Can you help me open circuit of this battery. Thank you very much!
Try depleting it some by using it as a power bank and then recharge it and maybe try deleting the app and reinstalling it. Sorry, I don't have much solid answers here on this problem,.
When are you going to review flight demo on the 5000mah battery.
When I can in better weather. I do not get a fair test in freezing cold nor do I want to read that comment repeated constantly in the video comments. It works and isn't disappointing is all I can say at this point.
Yes, interested in the testing to see if the minor surgery is worth it. Do you envision any physical differences in weight or distribution that would force the drone to compensate in some detrimental manner? Probably no different than a head wind I guess. Good vid. Cheers
I don’t for see any issues with weight distribution at all. So far it’s been fine..I haven’t flown a whole lot but it’s been fine.
Thanks 😊
Chris, you are the only place I could find this information. Thank you.
I modified my zino pro and it works so far, just need to get a charger for the battery.
As for weight distribution, I think their is a little but not noticeable. Also remember hubsan actually makes a 5000mha battery for the pro model that attaches with Velcro and sticks out the back. If that’s battery is fine, this one will have no problem.
Thanks again for the great content.
Nice information mate what about the znio 1 batterys
You can use the originals, Gifi or pro plus battery there just like you can in the pro.
Has Hubsan Stepped it up and made a competitor
Hey man I really need you on this one. Can I use normal Zino batteries on Zino Pro? Pls reply.
Yes…just not on pro plus
Can anyone tell me where to find a firmware update for the original zino.
It doesn't appear to be on the hubsan website anymore.
drive.google.com/drive/mobile/folders/16mowqwNX9_EN9l2URwo0_069caVeoaCi?fbclid=IwAR1VovZZB792tnjLTTjRSABHb4-lXCRDSgytM-LAdNlbpLh7WFjtdg_NSEc
Thankyou
Thank you for the many detailed videos on the Zino! After viewing quite a few, I just ordered a Zino Pro+.
I think the only negative I can see is that Hubsan appears to be limiting the “plus” model to the proprietary 5000mah battery.
I plan to make some adapters to charge the battery with a balance charger (HTRC T240). Since this charger is a dual, I want to make 2 balance adapters. I noticed one of your videos showed a heavier gauge factory charge adapter that allowed for 3amp charging without heating up. Do you happen to know the part number? Or, where I could obtain one?
Once again, great tutorials!
It’s setup to just take a power supply charge with the board in the battery doing the balancing. It won’t allow you to use a hobby grade charger to balance. Only to use it as a power source. I could be wrong but I tried...
@@QCGUY Well that's a bummer! I was hoping to charge/discharge/store with a quality charger. Had I known this battery was also married to the poor factory charger, I would have likely gone with a different quad.
Actually, It hasn’t shipped yet. I still can cancel. Got any other suggestions?
I am anti-DJI. Had three of them and the last one almost took a swim when the optical flow overrides the gps over water. I was 40 feet away and stick inputs wouldn’t respond over water. Slowly descending at an angle. I lucked out and it finally responded about a foot above bath time.
@@Safety-Third You’re better off getting the Pro and use whatever batteries you want. This is just stupid of them but you can count on me making waves about it. Not enough people join in and demand the changes is the problem. Most reviewers don’t even know enough about this stuff to understand what a battery like this means in the hands of a company like Hubsan.
One bad update and we could all be grounded because it doesn’t like it’s own battery even. 😂
@@QCGUY After quite a bit of arguing with Amazon, it appears that I have successfully cancelled the Zino Pro + order. The single unit proprietary battery thing was my primary reason. If a battery goes bad and Hubsan doesn’t have inventory, I have no other sources. Considering the charger does not have an option to balance the pack, batteries will likely fail within a year. Besides, the Amazon seller had quite a number of recent poor reviews (selling returned units, missing parts, etc).
Refund is supposed to be a few days so, that gives me time to look closer at other units. Looking closer at the Fimi X8 SE. Although, I worry about future batter availability, at least I can charge via a quality balance charger and likely get a couple years plus out of them.
Feel free to drop any other suggestions.
@@Safety-Third FIMI X8 SE 2020 is a better choice and they are finally at a good point with the firmware. I’m very happy with min 👍🏻
I have batteries as old as 2 years so far...
Can the hubsan zino pro battery be used on a white hubsan zino or not?
Yes
Is there a possibility you can extend the battery story to the whole Zino 'ecosystem'? What works and doesn't work with the original Zino? :-)
Added to my list...I’ll try
Great video! Someone needs to rip that circuit out of the battery and see exactly what it is doing. Is it providing a resistance, or a short in unused terminals, is it using a pulse like the new garage door buttons, or actually exchanging serial numbers? I would assume these engineers did not do much and the circuit will be easy to reverse engineer. My first suspicion is that disabling motor arming was done at the app level, and that there is a way to overide it. Wireshark that com link and swap batteries? Im thinking the drone just reports the battery, that there would not be a hardware lockout for several reasons, and that the evil trickery here takes place at the Hubsan app level.. where its always been.. Thats just a guess.. for now everyone with a dead 5k battery needs to post that puppy for sale :) and we can see if they are swappable or battery specific. Based on the tech required I would say its swappable so the old electronics could be moved to a replacement battery..This is a simple circuit more than likely, not enough to stop us from bypassing it but enough for hubsan to sue anyone who tries to clone the battery. Unfortunately this information is sealed within the patent per hubsans request and not public information. It is our duty as hubsan fans to instantly reverse this battery technology before other drone companies follow in their footsteps. I mean who does that??? Apple.. and their chargers!!!
You seem very passionate about it so??? 🤔
I sacrifice enough of my shit so unless someone wants to send me some batteries this one won’t be my puzzle to solve.
It’s easy enough to figure out I’m sure but one thing I won’t be doing is ripping mine apart and playing nutty professor. I have a very good idea of what they have done here and I’ll just call it coded but don’t read too much into that.
But like I said I’m not going to be ripping into mine. This is why my Zino pro is now flying without a working gimbal and camera after taking it apart several times using its parts to test others sent to me to fix. No more of that shit here!
@@QCGUY I understand perfectly and you depend on this drone for these great instructional videos! I would have to buy Zino to find out, but the difference is I would gladly rip it apart because I wouldnt be flying it lol but to spend that much to find out? To me, if it arms with the GPS chip ripped out then I would buy it. Most hubsans do.. They go into instant arm mode.. Which also happens to eliminate all failsafes like RTH so a disconnect would result in a lost drone.. Not a great thing for distance runs. I wonder if the Zino would carry the Hubsan 7000mah, would have to solve that battery issue though. THE 7000 IS ABOUT 400 grams.. Huh I could offer to buy dead 5000s lol but there probably arent any yet. Im scared to look at the price new.. Over 100 bucks I bet! If I see a cheap one Ill snipe it. I cant justify spending that much on a drone unless it arms with GPS ripped out. Do me a favor and try that next time its apart? lol Im curious if the option to fly anyway would come up, and if it would actually arm
I just got a pro plus battery for my pro, this excites me. I have also read that when the battery is charging, it will flash red lights until charged. Is this correct?
Had the same problem with the original charger. Blinking (acc Hubsan its bad battery). Bought the zino pro plus charger as spare part and it is fine.
I’m sorry for failing to mention that if you use the 5000mAh batteries you need that charger.

Thanks Chris for good hint. You mentioned that you can't fix gimbal on drone. Have you managed to fix it? I think I have the same problem with gimbal. Connecting to Hubsan gimbal tool, gyroscope sensor is not showing any updates and also in the app there is gimbal error 0x1000. I dissasembled my zino and looked for connections problems but didn't find any problems with wiring.
Mine is the board. It won’t detect the camera or the gimbal but I finally have one and installed it. Everything works now,
First you should always check your connectors on the gimbal and your board. If they look good then replace the cable with the correct one for your model.
If that doesn’t fix it it may be your board or something is corrupt.
You said you didn’t find any problems but the cable can be bad and look perfectly fine.
@@QCGUY Today I replaced gyroscope and the cable. The problem persist. So I think the problem is in gyroscope of the gimbal. So there are two gyroscopes one - on the top of mainboard the second is located near the camera sensor. Unfortunately the gimbal is selling only as a whole unit you can't buy the sensor separately.

Hi. Do you have a tutorial how to adjust the focus to Hubsan Zino or Zino Pro?
No because mine have been fine and so many screw it up trying. It’s best to replace the camera lens module which Hubsan use to sell people. I sell them as well but am running low.
@@QCGUY Is it possible that the image is blurred because of a card that's too slow?
@@LegatDeClujLDC That’s something you should rule out with a better card sure.

I also shot with automatic settings. I'll try the faster card and manual settings, and if it still doesn't work out, I'll tie an Osmo Action to the drone 😂
@@LegatDeClujLDC I don’t doubt it’s a out of focus issue but process of elimination has to take place first. So stay on your path and see if that’s the end result.

@@Brett-xj9bu I got your email…hold tight please.
Chris, thanks for this video. I also want to say thanks for your gimbal cable changing video. I just replaced mine using that video, and it went flawlessly. Excellent work! I had this very question within the last couple of days so to shorter flight times. One issue that I am finding, and it seems to be somewhat common, is that the battery strength starts counting down immediately. In addition, there is an error message that says the battery is draining too fast. There are even some videos here where the battery drains to 60%, then immediately drops to 6%. Have you run into this? Some suspect a firmware problem. I'm lucky to get 6 minutes, and the batteries aren't that old. The drone sat for a long time waiting on a new cable. I'm concerned that the 5000 mAH battery will have the same results. Thanks in advance.
Hubsan has unaddressed issues…
Poor chargers, poor charging circuits in models with “smart” batteries, poor meter accuracy between batteries and what you see from the app which is a firmware issue and bad connectors in the quad where the battery hooks up. Ever see someone post where the drone melted at that connection?
Bad connection there causes multiple problems….
@@QCGUY Thanks for the prompt response. I'm contemplating the 5000 mAH batteries and charger. I'll get one at first to see if it solves the problem. Will the new charger charge the 3000 mAH batteries? Thanks again for the hard work. Many of us would be sitting around with the Zino Pro paper weight if it wasn't for you!
@@vballjim01 I don’t use the new charger but there’s no reason I can think of that it won’t.
I did some further troubleshooting on this battery drain. The power trickles down at the rate of about 1% per second at first. Even while just hovering. It seems to stop at certain increments and hold. One at 60%, one at 40%. Those 2 are consistent, but there are others. I allowed the battery to drain to zero by hovering 2" off of the ground and bypassing the auto land feature which comes in @ 15, 10, and 5%. Charged it back up from scratch. Same results. I have read in places where they believe it's a firmware issue. Not sure I want to visit that can of worms. I'm going to go with the 5000 mAH battery. Do you know where I can find a charger for those?
@@vballjim01 where are you located?
Well done .... MacGyver .... 😂🤟🏻
Now we know what the 'plus' means - plus proprietary battery only circuitry! Those bastards at Hubsan did what I suspected they would, which is to capacitive couple the digital signal onto the DC lines, most likely the the two balance connections. I'm surprised that they didn't put circuitry in the plus battery to prevent its use in the Z1 and ZP. I guess they figured that the mechanical stop was enough.
Yes David you, me and 100’s of others suspected it was coming with new quads. Not a big pat our selves on the back moment here.
At the end, hubsan sells drones not batteries, they shouldn't worry about the batteries we want to use
They forget that the reason many like them is we can mod them and use third party things like the batteries. Greedy bastards! lol
Debe ser por qué la batería del Zino pro plus, es de 74W/h y la del Zino pro es de 50w/h y la del Zino es de 34w/h
Battery Game,, I don't know much but I been able to mod some may say hack show me a drone had me any drone battery along with a og battery I will be flying
